  • What's the lowest on this?

    • +4

I bought it last year for $344 on Dyson website, that's the lowest I found.

      • I got a "refurbished" one from their eBay store for $309, came in a brown box marked Dyson but everything inside was brand new as far as I could tell

        • +4

I got the last one there but with $60 voucher “REFRB”, bringing it down to $289

          • @lanlin1988: Oof nice. When I got mine they were $329 - $20 voucher. Haven't seen them in stock for a while though

        • Now I'm wondering if the one I got from BigW was a refurb… Came in a brown box too

          • @twig: Not he first time BigW have sold refurb stuff as new. They have been doing that forever.

          • @twig: I've seen some V8s come in brown boxes new but they have an outline image of a V8 on it, in my case nothing distinguished what the product was, just a box that said Dyson on either side. I always just assumed it was sold as refurbished but was actually just damaged box stock

    • Why don't we all combine JB Hifi and Good guys into the one name, seeing that they are the same business.

A few bucks less from the Dyson official ebay presence

The Harvey Norman store near me will price match, usually.

      • Why don't we all combine JB Hifi and Good guys into the one name,

you say this but don’t mention a name?

I have one they should reopen as “Pleasure Explosion”. you know because shipping gives you pleasure, well it’s supposed to..

      • Steady on, JB are the incredible "CRAZY PRICES!" people, whereas Good Guys are the just the other lot who sell the same things at the same prices.

Pay retail and go through Topcashback 4% which brings it down to $334 or Shopback 3%. I think using Price beat voids getting cashback.

    • +1

Can confirm it doesnt with Topcashback, I picked up a Eufy Robovac a few months ago during the 20% Cashback bonus and it went through no issue.

    • quick update it's 5% now so would bring it down to $329.65.

  • +3

Can also buy with $20 discount voucher from Student Beans, brings it down to $327 pick up (cancels out price beat).

    • Can also pair this with a Maxxia 5% off gift card (1% processing fee). A lot of employers are partnered with maxxia, meaning you have access to their rewards program (discount gift cards). Total $313.76.

      • Macquaire bank 4% as well, easier for most ppl who don't have Maxxia benefits

  • Thanks, got one. Been waiting for good price

While this is good buying, for my first Stick vacuum I'm going to pony up for the Shark Stratos IZ400 currently at the Good Guys for $538 with Price Beat…..maybe cheaper at the Halloween Sales from the 26th.?

    • +2

Had many friends purchase other vacuum brands; Shark, Miele and LG, and they've had some issue with it. They ended up getting a Dyson stick (v7 to v15). Parts are plentiful on marketplace and there are many people that can repair them. You can even repair yourself.

I purchased a v11 3yrs ago for $550 off marketplace with all the goodies (RRP$1299) and haven't gone back. Motor failed on me but was able to order one for $140 and replace it myself and the thing is like new again. Couldn't imagine a shark vacuum motor failing on me. Keep it simple. The v8 is a decent vacuum that does the job + more. You want something that's a bit more punchy with more battery, get a v10/11/15.

  • So this isn't as well suited for hard flooring and geared towards carpet?

    • +2

Depends what's on the hard flooring, it can pick up pet hair really well on hard floors and is alright for basic dirt and stuff, but not great for bigger debris. I bought a cheap dual head fluffy brush thing from eBay for like $60 which works really well on the hard floors though. This one is great for carpet though as is

    • +1

RTINGS is the golden standard of reviewers when it comes to things like vacuums, TVs, monitors etc. They're harsh, but fair. This vacuum comes out pretty well with both hard floors and carpets scoring similarly. Just bought one. For <$350, a battery-operated and handy stick vacuum that performs well is a steal

  • +1

Does anyone know if these are too harsh on wool carpet?

    • +1

Should be ok at a lower speed.

      • +1

Depends on the length I guess, mine cuts out if I even think about doing a quick pass over the bath mat

        • I think it's a safety feature.

I often use the thin short attachment and if I accidentally start sucking up a plastic bag that starts blocking the nozzle it detects the sudden jump in suction and cuts out.

maybe the same thing happens if you clog or stop the head from spinning.

        • So does mine, but its fine on actual wool carpet because the piles are not that high or loose vis a vi a bath mat.

  • +3

Which model is good for tile floor?

    • Thinking the same thing.

    • The gen5detect

The hard floor head has green lasers that should you all the dirt

  • Got the V7 and tempted to upgrade to this, or should I go for a higher one? (Dont want to pay $800)

    • +5

Controversial opinion maybe but I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade (have both, they’re pretty similar to be honest)

      • Thank you

    • +1

I have had the V7 for years and the battery started lasting less and less only about 5 to 10 mins on low when it should do 30. so I just detached rinsed the bin and bought a replacement battery from Dyson for $130 (I read the 3rd party ones were terrible).

cheaper than a whole new vacuum and you can return the old battery to Dyson to recycle and they pay postage (just contact Dyson support by email if you can’t find it on website, and mention your suburb).

also give the new battery a few recharges before thinking of sending it back. at first it was only lasting 20 mins and I was worried (because it won’t last long on high) but after about 10 recharges it was working for 30 mins again like new.

      • Thanks

        • yeah just what I did. because you can clean the clear bin and filter. seems like a waste to junk it if you can just replace battery and motor still works.

to disassemble you just pull the red handle like when emptying and keep pulling it up it comes completely out. I forgot the next step to remove the bin but you can just wipe it clean as well.

also read the instructions included with battery it tells you how to replace. and use the new battery packaging to put the old battery to send it back safely.

can’t remember exactly but I think you need to replace the battery first before plugging the charger into it.

  • Does this have motorised carpet head?

    • +2

      Yes,

      • Motorbar cleaner head
    • But donsn’t come with the hard floor attachment.

  • +8

The year is 3250 and Dyson are still selling the V8 stick vac with the 900 other pointless SKU's they stock.

  • Finally pulled the trigger. Thanks OP.

    • +5

get used to pulling the trigger with the V8

  • -3

Needs to be roughly $250 IMHO

  • does anyone reckon they just keep making these V8's new or they are old stock from ages ago that haven't been sold?

  • Nooo.. should i pull the trigger or wait for black friday sale…. No rush to get it now but i feel like i need to replace/upgrade my viomi A9 from last year

    • Wait

  • +1

If you specifically want a Dyson for wooden floors and tiles the V8 Absolute is the go..

  • +1

thanks OP, picked up one to replace my 10+ year old Dyson
