    Delta airlines hmmmmmmm

    • +13

Its the most premium out of the Big 3 US carriers.

      • +1

Agreed. Been a SkyMiles member for near on 20 years now and apart from the occasional delay (which all US domestic carriers suffer from) I've literally never had a problem.

I fly a lot within North America and hands down receive a superior experience with Delta. They are the only airline who regularly upgrade me without me asking and their fly ahead service has worked seamlessly to get me into a city well ahead of schedule.

Their upgrade of their terminal at LaGuardia was chef's kiss.

    • +3

I had the same thought but it is the better of the 3 main US airlines.
Obviously service is nowhere close to that of Middle Eastern or Asian (Singapore) airline standards, but for that price no complaints.

    • Why?
Not bad compared to many North American Airlines?
I'd say in par with Qantas.

      • +2

I'd say in par with Qantas.

        This is exactly why

    • +1

United is possibly the worst. Delta are great.

      • +1

Just flew to LAX and back on United, it was perfectly fine. No worse than Qantas

        • In the US, United have the most cancelled flights and 2nd most delayed flights out of the major airlines.

Delta has the lowest cancellations and delays.

Worse, United are constantly plagued by problems.

    • +1

Delta have always been pretty decent IMO. Would take a flight with them over Qantas at the same price.

    • crash airlines I mean "Delta" I know those guys…..

    • +1

The best airline in the US, but still far worse than airlines in Asia and the Middle East.

  • QLD Government with subsiding these flights left and right ;) from UA to AC and now DL

    • +2

Don't know why you've gotten downvotes for this.

The Qld Govt has put in $100m of subsidies for 2022-25 for attracting new aviation markets to Queensland (allegedly matched by the private sector - i.e. the airports).

You obviously know aviation - A370? Thanks for your expert input.

      • +4

I know right? The A370 is good but the A371Plus is the bomb-diggity.

        • A370PlusXLRneo is now being text flown with deliveries commencing in 2026.

    • LAX international terminal is at least quite nice now.

    • Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is definitely not shit.

    • yea but you pretty much have to land there to go anywhere in the US

Did not know Delta is here

  • Woah

  • I'd assume it's peaceful enough to travel there after having a new POTUS?

      Depends which one.

I bet there will be a couple of months chaos no matter which one is elected.

        • I flew out of NYC the day before the 2016 election. It was not good (for those I left behind).

          • @wavesgreen: I could imagine that.

@Spets: They had to put up with a strong economy, low inflation, record low unemployment, a strong border, and no new wars… Oh the humanity…

      • I dont think it would matter, unless you go looking for protests and im sure they dont protest in tourist hot spots. Even if you happen to come across one it would be pretty localized and avoiding the area would be easy- its a big country

  • any good deals to Toronto in july?

    • If you can get hold of some velocity points, there are some good deals to US and Canada (via United airlines + Canada Air). I booked mine in July for 90,000 points one way all the way to Quebec.

Do Aussie citizens need any other documents to enter the USA other than a Aussie passport?

  • I stayed in LA in August and it wasn't nearly as bad as people say. This is also a great stop before travelling to Central / South America.

    • What was bad about it?

      • +1

The litter is bad (for a first world country). Saw a pair of tweakers when we went to the pharmacy. That was it, the currency exchange sucks but prices for food was roughly the same as Australian restaurants. Min wage in California is much higher than the rest of the states so I was told by a local to only tip for table service restaurants.

    • +1

I stayed in LA in August and it wasn't nearly as bad as people say

You have to remember that LA is a huge city, it makes Sydney look like a country town by comparison, so a lot of tourists go to areas like Hollywood or Venice and think it's shit (Hollywood and Venice are shit) but there's some great parts too. It's like if you came to Sydney then went to Bankstown and said 'Sydney is shit'. I have friends I stay with in Pasadena near JPL and CalTech (where Einstein lived) and it's a very nice part of town.

      • +1

But who would go to Sydney and then go to Bankstown? You'd go to the touristy areas…

        • But who would go to Sydney and then go to Bankstown?

Well this is a cultural difference between the US and other Western countries. For the rest of us, the good stuff is usually the city centre which is usually well maintained. In the US all the hobos hang out in the centres so all the well-to-do types are out in the suburbs where the hobos can't get to easily.

Once you appreciate the difference you realise why the US cities centres are usually a bit rough and if you want the good stuff you need to get away from them.

Lot of misconcepts floating around. Yes LA is a big city, probably twice as large as Sydney (so mentioning Sydney a country town by comparison is a bit stretched lol). Then again, it's half as nice as Sydney as well. There's litter (probably not different to a big city in a third world country); also lots of ageing infrastructure and high rise buildings in some parts of the city make you wonder whether LA has had its glory days probably a couple of decades ago. Whole city looks and feels old & aging. Lots of dodgy areas with drugees etc. Drivers are impatient and drive a little aggressively. But out of all the problems, two key issues made me most uncomfortable.

      1) Homeless people everywhere (literally every street corner, under every underpass bridge, in & around every abandoned building - there are a lot of them, many cars with homeless living in them - some of which didn't even have wheels on them lol)

      2) Car braking in (I saw many broken windows in cars and apparently this is a common occurrence in both LA and San Francisco). There are some areas where you are guaranteed to have your window broken if parked in the wrong place at the wrong time. Many signs put of advising to be vary but it was stressful as a tourist where to park without worrying about our belongings.

Note that above observations are really general and not applicable to all the places. It's a huge city and there are some fantastic areas with amazing houses, spotless streets etc but most of the touristy areas (around Hollywood, around airport, around Disneyland) situation in general is as above.

      • mentioning Sydney a country town by comparison is a bit stretched

If you're used to living in a city where things are open after 5pm on weekdays then Sydney feels like a country town by comparison. There is no other 'global city' I know of where everything shuts down at 5pm…

It might not seem that way if you haven't lived in another large city overseas, but if you do and then come back, you will notice it.

        • +1

So true. Melbourne's the same, pretty much. Sunday-Thursday night CBD is basically dead.

    • I don't know how anyone can go to Beverly Hills and say it's shit…

      • I did and dare say I wasn't impressed. I probably had higher expectations though. Hence the above description so you'll have reasonable expectations, thus will be adequately impressed when you're there. Lol

30 hours of flight for just $810. Think about that for a moment. $27 per hour. That is amazingly cheap.

    • Something doesn't add up. How many passengers on a A350 - 300 or so? 300x $810 = $240,000. Pretty sure that the fuel cost for 30 hours of flying would at least be this much?

      • You're forgetting not every passenger will be buying tickets at this price and they will have limited tickets for each flight at this price. There will be plenty of people paying thousands of dollars for Biz/First/Premium Eco as well as economy once the sale price is sold out.

      • Airline pricing models don't work like that They might have a dozen seats at below cost like this, then another dozen at cost, but the other 300 seats will be above cost, especially once you get to premium, business and first. I think I remember reading somewhere that 90%+ of the profits come from business and first passengers.

      • You haven't taken into account the Qld Govt subsidies on this route (which are commercial-in-confidence, unfortunately).

  • +2

Great price for Delta, probably the best of the big 3 imo..

However, if you care, their rewards are absolutely horrible. commonly referred to as "skypesos" because they are worth absolutely nothing.

    • Best to credit to flying blue or virgin flying club (albeit another devaluation is coming up).

  • Noticed there were some good dates to go across for 10 days or so to attend the NRL vegas action.

    • that would be like going to the US to see kanagroos and koalas

      • Yes I sorta feel similar but I guess it may appeal to some people. I think Lots of people want to go to las Vegas and visit a major us stadium. At least the games will be of interest rather than nfl games which are very boring to a non fan or someone that does understand the downs etc. Lots of people travel to see the same stuff they can see here. I'm in Bali on holiday at the moment with extended family and they just want to go to places and restaurants that are fully westerned and look like pubs at home, rather than go to authentic places
