A nice discount (was $80.51, and ATL according to the 3 Camels) on a quantity forged X50CrMoV15, full tang, triple riveted, hollow edge santoku knife.

A nice option for those who prefer something a little smaller than a typical 8 inch chefs knife, looking for something to help prevent the likes of zucchini sticking to your blade or who, like myself, seem compelled to have every type of knife.

  • How does this compare to Coles Santoku knife?

    • +9

      It doesnt

  • +2

I have a decent santoku with those slots and the veggies still stick…

    • +2

Those slots are mostly a gimmick. Thicker knifes with a well defined bevel do better for stopping sticking.

  • I got a zwilling professional s for this price not too long ago.

Nice score, wish you would have posted it here!

      • there was only 1 available.

        • That's fair, happy for you!

          • @ohgee: theres some bargains to be had if you have a look on amazon, just takes a bit to go through all the pages. picked up a global g-16 for about the same price too.

            • @frondono: Nice one! No doubt, you gotta be on it. I picked up a Mercer Renaissance bread knife for $27 and a Mundial serrated utility knife for $18. Both had <5 in stock so couldn't post them as a bargain.

Forged! Like Anduril forged by Elves for the Rightful King of Gondor?

  • What kind of sharpener would be recommended

    • +2

Nothing special, a honing steel will keep it sharp day to day.

santoku is a must-have imo - or at least a good alternative to traditional western/European cook's/chef's - though for $3 more, MX3 deal was better, but i'm still rocking with the Victorinox and Henckel ones as well :)

    • I may be a rookie but what is the advantage of a santoku over a chefs knife? Chefs knife is so versatile, I feel like it can do everything a santoku can do

      • Some people like a smaller knife, just personal preference.

  • Missed out so I got this one

  • Good alternative for anyone who missed out, also doesn't have the slots.

    • Depends what you're looking for. That knife is stamped with partial tang in a wood handle. Lesser blade, higher maintenance looking after the wood handle. At that price I'd still go for the Renaissance at $77.90 if I didn't want to wait for a better price.
