Amazon Prime Next Day Delivery Now 5 Day Delivery?

I live on the Sunshine Coast and 95% of my shopping is online based and 6-12 months ago I started slowly shifting most of my online shopping from eBay to Amazon. Their next day delivery was one of the main reasons for shifting my purchasing across and for 6-12 months their next day delivery on most (90%) of their items was wonderful.

Then this week I noticed that there were virtually no items able to be shipped next day and yesterday (Monday) I bought some 3 items and their expected delivery is Saturday (5 days) and nearly all items listed on their marketplace are also 5 day shipping.

Does anyone know if there's a wider issue at Amazon at the moment?

      • But we keep hanging on throughout the enshitification because there's nothing better (especially in Australia) and just keep accepting worse service at higher costs until the next least crap option becomes the primary least crap. Eg back to Ebay
Amazon know that nobody in Australia has ever done nor will ever do next day delivery (often not even same week), for a nominal monthly fee, therefore can afford to enshitify by a fair bit.

      • Some will leave, but most won’t notice or care enough to trigger any action.

  • I'm in Adelaide. I've ordered a couple of things recently which took 2 days when previously it would have been next day. I thought it odd, but not a big deal because I didn't need the items that urgently. But given that the price has been going up, it's a bit annoying that the service is going the other way.

I live pretty remote and not only have Amazon been really slow lately, many things they now refuse to even send. I just assume they are cost cutting since they only made $3 billion last year.

  • I have all my items sent to my post office parcel locker and generally get everything in 1 or 2 days (even if I order on a weekend).

    • How do you know which courier they'll use? Most of my orders don't use Australia Post so I don't put parcel locker address. Or is the hack to put in the parcel locker address and it'll be guaranteed they'll pick Australia Post?

My last order is being delivered by dragonfly and they never attempted delivery as I live on a busy main road. There was no option to select pickup from local collection point, sadly. Today will be their third "attempt".

If the product is is fulfilled by Amazon (which would be 95% of my orders), then it's always Australia Post (I get updates from them).

        • Mine has always been fulfilled by Amazon but got all sorts of couriers. Maybe need to put parcel locker/parcel collect to be allocated aus post.

Third "attempt" today failed as expected. It was the last item available too so I can't just reorder.

        • That might be the case for you that your orders are delivered by AusPost but as far as I'm aware, that's an anomaly.

  • Could be related to their change in delivery models.

it was just flex contractors on sedans/suvs at first (3-5 hr shifts, no more than 24hr/week, gig-work-style), then they added van contractors option (8hr shifts), now they are switching at least part of deliveries to "partners" (delivery contractors with fleet of vans, that hire drivers with hourly pay), and last time I did flex delivery in Melbourne, I saw a bunch of new shiny gray vans with "Prime" logos all over it sitting on warehouse parking lot.

I just put an order in yesterday (Friday). It said order by whatever time it was to get delivery by Tuesday. So that's already 4 days (2 business days) delivery time. I ordered right away, but when it shipped it said it was coming on Wednesday.

It's not super urgent or anything, but it does feel like their standards are slipping.
