Who on earth is paying this much for a motherboard? Crazy.

    • -3

disposable income is a wonderful thing

      • +17

I have plenty of disposable income, this isn't a good use if it.

        • +9

You know different people have different interests / priorities, right? Some people buy boats, cars, 4wd's. Some blow a lot more money than they should on pc parts. We enthusiasts don't need to justify our over the top purchases :)

          • -4

@DanielP2: Then why are you here trying to justify it?

          • +3

@DanielP2: If you think this is a good deal, go for it. $900 on an AM5 board (that was around $1200)is silly, and that sentiment is clearly held by a lot of folks judging by the votes. For HEDT? sure. But knock yourself out mate, grab 6.

      It has AI

      • +1

I was wondering whether this was a high side price error. But no, it's genuine.
So it got AI, that does not impress me much…

        • +14

          Alright Shania!

      • if they get your money then you need Ai!

    • +6

I mean, when phones and robovacs are regularly above $2k-to-3k these days, motherboard manufacturers thought it was time to catch up :)

    • +10

Apart from Crazy price, this mobo has a slim SAS, and it is separated from any risk of disabling the PCI-E lanes, so you can hook up more NVME drives via NVME to U2 adaptor. It will cost more I understand in the end but then you won't compromise the speed. Also, looking at Hardware unbox video, this mobo seems to be one of the stable board to run pass the 8000mt/s memory dimm. I was initially on wanting to get MSI Carbon wifi but this has slim SAS which served what I need.

      • +1

Thanks for the info! I had no idea regular consumer mobos (even high end ones) would come with Slim SAS.

      • Does this "slimSAS" mean I don't need a HBA card to run multiple HDD? What further hardware would I require to have say 12xHDD plugged into this slimSAS?

        • +1

This SlimSAS sole purposes are to utilise 4x NVMEs drives at full speed without compromising and maintaining 16x lanes on the GPU.

Check this YouTube video out for more info and how to go about, I bought the necessary tools to get the SlimSAS connected.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6rFI3kngMY

I couldn't find the Vantec M.2 NVMe SSD to U.2 SSD Adapter so the next one I could settle for is Silverstone https://www.pccasegear.com/products/62768/silverstone-mua01-… then get the cable from Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B099DYK9CW

          • @cloudie9: Are you saying that this cable would not connect 4 sata devices?
            https://www.amazon.com.au/XMSJSIY-Slimline-SAS-SFF-8654-Tran…

This SlimSAS sole purposes are to utilise 4x NVMEs drives at full speed without compromising and maintaining 16x lanes

Seems to be the sole purpose of the creator in the video you linked. But not the "sole purpose" by technical limitation.

            • @Bruceflix: You can connect the 4 SATA but if you want the absolute best speed, then this is one of the way go about, hence why Asus offered Slim SAS on this board, don't think any other X870E offers this.

          • @cloudie9: This SlimSAS connector is only PCIe 4.0 x4 though. Can it run 4x NVMe drives or only a single NVMe drive?

            • @Sleepycat3: Looking at the YouTube video, just a single NVMe drive.

    • +1

Came to say the same thing. It's been a while since I dug into the depths of chipset comparisons, but I remember in the old days there was only ever a couple of percent different in benchmarks between the cheap ones and the expensive ones. You paid for things like built-in wifi and bluetooth, or more PCI-E slots when they we're all new but what are you paying for now?

    • Probably we are not the target audience then.

  • Price has been up since weekend. But was doubtful the price last until this long. Bought one since its heaps cheaper than getting locally!

  • +1

Primary and Secondary PCIE 5.0 ports support x8-x8 bifrucation. Only reason i see anyone wanting this over just having bragging rights.

    • I won't bite until someone releases a PCIe 5.0 x4 to PCIe 4.0 x8 adapter/converter to allow more PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives to be used with the board.

      5x M.2 NVMe + 1x SlimSAS is only 1 extra drive over the 2x M.2 NVMe + 2x M.2 NVMe bifucation + 1x M.2 NVMe x4 chipset that the old x570 Hero could support.

      • we really need to switch to PCIE 5.0 x1/x2 for NVMe drives

however this board could be great if you somehow have access to latest gen of 400Gbps PCIE5.0 NICs

    • This may be a valid setup for a dual GPU system.
No 10GBe nic makes it less useful for such systems.

    • -Bifurcates to x16/x0 or x8/x8, and further configurations
-Using M.2_3 (5x4) causes PCIEX16_1 to run at x8 and PCIEX16_2 to run at x4.
      - PCIEX16_2 is disabled if both M.2_2 (5x4) and M.2_3 (5x4) are enabled, or if a Phoenix CPU is installed.

"NitroPath DRAM Technology" - that has got to be the stupidest name I've ever heard.

on par with Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo

  • +8

why is a motherboard the cost of a whole PC

    • +1

Same reason why a Lamborghini CF Engine Hood cost the same as a whole car.

    • -1

Because some ppl use their pcs for things other than browsing Web pages and sending email. If you have a way of sourcing a 4k gaming pc for $800, please let us all know.

      • +6

You don't need a $800 motherboard to run 4k games, your argument makes no sense

        • -2

Read what i was replying to. I didnt argue that you need a $800 motherboard to run 4k games.

"why is a motherboard the cost of a whole PC"
My argument is that different people use PCs for different purposes. If someone is happy with an $800 pc then they clearly should not buy this motherboard. If u want to build a high end PC and can afford this motherboard then who the hell are you to tell them they shouldnt? This is cheaper than it is available at other retailers, so it is on OzB. Dont want it, dont bloody buy it. Its not rocket science mate.

    X870E pricing is nuts

  • +11

    This or a AMD 7500F, 32GB RAM, 2TB NVMe, 650W Gold PSU, and a 27" QHD 165Hz IPS?

    Hmm…

  • Does anyone know the warranty policy for purchases at Amazon not AU via Amazon AU?

    • +1

You have to return it back to UK.

  • +11

This is poor value for a motherboard. At that price it should have at least 2 X 10gbe network ports, and an OLED display for operation status.

  • +8

$821.95 and still no 10GBe nic

  • +2

It's for rich people with poor tastes.

Like the premium version of any car that has leather seats and cost 15k more.

The engine and transmission is identical as the base model.

    • you mean poor people like to think they are smarter than the rich?

  • +1

omg an if then statement is now AI

  • -3

A "bargain" web site where machines to make a cup of coffee that cost thousands of dollars are applauded and recommended can hardly criticise an $821 motherboard.

    • +2

Well a 'bargain' doesn't refer the raw price, it refers to discount over what you'd normally pay. In this ad it doesn't actually say what the 'normal' price is. It gives an RRP which is never a reliable figure, so it's hard to say if this is actually a bargain or not. If this product also made you coffee then $800 could be a bargain.

      • +1

The normal price is $1299. The use of RRP is just misused here. But the bargain is real.

    • Coming from the person who advises you to buy expensive tools.

The best part is 0 fps gainz.

Be careful buying an ASUS motherboard from overseas, if there are any issues with it ASUS Australia will not help you at all.

    • +1

For 35% price less than what you pay locally, I will take my chances, worst comes to worst, just have to deal with Amazon directly for returns. For context, I bought Asus B650E-I Strix from Amazon UK on my ITX rig, been running no issues.

  • I don't know how they can justify this price. Crazy

  • Nice MB + CPU combo deal? oh..wait, it's just the motherboard… :(

  • +1

Apparently some of the upcoming Asus Z890 (Intel Arrow Lake) boards are going to be even more expensive. 800+ euro, so around A$1600?

    Mobo vendors have lost it.

  • it's a deal compared to buying locally. I just bought a x870E Taichi for the same price.

  • Imagine paying $821 for a motherboard with no warranty. Can't rely on Amazon Germany to provide ongoing 3 years warranty support…

It's bad enough trying to obtain warranty from Asus Australia for something purchased through the local channels…

    • It is Amazon UK, but why can't we rely on Amazon to honor manufacturers warranty?

  • Only 2 PCI-E slots for a $1300 motherboard? Guess I am not upgrading from my good old X570 Phantom Gaming X yet.

  • +2

Pc users 6 months from now: this motherboard is old and rubbish, not worth your time.

ps5 users 4 years later: wow such technology.

  • +1

Is this going to make my aim better at gaming?

    • It can if you really want it to! The world is your oyster

  • Any good deals on B Series chipset motherboards?

  • +1

I paid $800 for a motherboard once, and the same for a cpu, I wouldnt do it again too be honest

  • -5

Im sorry but some of yall comments are just silly.

    • I dont get why all the comment about 5gbps lan ports when literally its what most competitor x870e boards are also on. 10gbps usecase on a clearly gaming focused board? Stop kidding yourself, yes, would be nice to have that, no, its certainly not a deal breaker.

    • the comments about few pcie slots is even more absurd, yeah show me another board with more 5.0 connectivity (slots & m.2 ports)? At the end of the day you cant even fully utilize these all, its a mess on what slots you take and what slots gets reduced speeds, and again this is same as competitors you gain some you lose some, theres only so much pcie lanes and its certainly not asus fault in anyway

if yall are complaining about the pricetag thats fair but then again, neither 9000 series chips nor these 800 series chipset is worth its premium for far more than most folks out here so I mean the argument kinda doesnt stand. if one is a value oriented buyer dont even consider the lastest and greatest. its not intels ultra levels of backwards, but its also not a step forward thats worth the extra $ for the average folk

  • Ok, so this is the world we live in. $821 for a motherboard and $60,000 for a Toyota Camry.

  • This price I may be able to get a whole PC with a descent 40s GPU

  • I understand this is a joke post, like the Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II, which was discounted from $1.068 million to $855,000.

What I don't understand is people who don't get the joke.

It's a joke post! Lighten up, people!
