      • Lol. I have a 7" Samsung phablet which might suit you…

its always funny to see people lose their minds over being forced to upgrade a $200 phone.

  • This phone or Samsung Galaxy A35 for $99 more on amaysim?

    • +1

I can tell you I wouldn't know what to choose and I have both, the G54 is great on power and has esim, the A35 is great on multimedia better screen it will even decode 8K at like 10fps 😂 and the stereo speaker is miles better than the G54, however battery life sucked on A35 compared to G54 both on standby and under load.

        Turn-on Developer-options, go-to Running-servives…what're APPs, system & features YOU don't need?

        Samsung bloatware: consider-> https://www.androidpolice.com/samsung-galaxy-a35-5g-uninstal…

When both-phones have similar FREE-ram & remove Samsung's One-UI features running-in-the-background that YOU don't need: pls provide an update to the above comments.

  • Bought the G54 using $200 code. Woohoo

    • Is there a spare $200 code?

      • sorry, I don't. Check in forum I guess

I had this phone for a good few months and here is my impression of it:

    • light for its size, the plastic construction definitely feels like you are holding plastic, the sides scratches easily, already have plenty of marks near the USB-C charge port
    • the 3.5mm headphone jack is awful sounding for music in comparison to anything that's semi decent , the quality is just there there, turning off the Dolby Atmos app and other software "enhancements" or not, not a whole lot of appreciable difference in sound can be heard, the Poweramp plugin from the play store makes 10x the difference in comparison I feel, so the audio output on stock is just bad IMO
    • the PowerVR gpu it has is weird, some apps will look weird and just not work, if it did work, after a period of heavy load, it would randomly glitch out and show a garbled screen, not a hard crash as locking and unlocking the phone will bring it back to life, it doesn't happen too often, just poor user experience when it did
    • phone actually capable of decoding and encoding 1440P60 video with apps like Opencamera, that's the good part compared to G84 as that only does 1080p max, the problem is anything that's above that resolution, it will not work or work extremely poorly even if you force it to use software decode
    • phone uses mediatek SoC, so of course it came bundled with a lot of those Miravision crap that you can't turn off unless resorting to root, basically the phone will uncontrollably decides to boost your screen saturation or change the gamma depending on what's on your screen, if you record a video it will "help" you to boost or tame the scene as it see fit, just not what you see fit, that's the most frustrating bit for me
    • coming back to the video bit, Motorola's choice of camera sensors are an interesting one, the ov50d and hi1634 are both tiny pixel imagers, so obviously the picture noise will shoot through the roof and indeed it is, you will see lots of noise even under the full sun, however, what it lacks in noise suppression it trades in signal, I mean getting any image at all when the lights go down, it is absolutely a low light monster for its size IMO when others might just be getting black nothing, the trade off is you are getting truck load of big colour noise balls
    • wifi is not great on this one, it drops signal way before what a flagship of many yesteryear would, the 2.4Ghz wifi hotspot mode on this one is pure garbage bad, slow and high ping
    • screen is okayish, you get your normal IPS glow when viewed off axis, and at 500nits max, it will be kind of hard to make out details under the sun plus the glass is too reflective, one good thing is it supported 30hz mode, so you can use setedit to set it to 30hz minimum to save battery life
    • speaking of battery life, this thing has endurance, if you just let it standby and use it sparingly, checking messages every now and then, it might last you 5 days straight, so good standby power use, and probably a good 10hr screen on time with a little bit left for the next day, it's great 👍

Yea, the esim bla bla, great

    • So, you don't use the phone case that came with this phone? Still much lighter compared with my other main phone OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite 5G with phone case.

For the phone display, I prefer to set Natural instead of Vivid. Just change this in the Settings - Display - Colors.

Picture noise? Just install and use Google Camera (gcam mod). It's necessary for many android phones in my opinion. Low noise (low ISO) after taking photos. But I have noticed that taking photo of a lamp in very dark room is better with moto camera (more details) if compared with gcam mod (maybe need deeper settings change).

Any idea how to get the $200 code?

    • -1

if you have an amaysim simcard, put it in a non compliant phone (no VoLTE and/or cannot call 000 via VoLTE0 and after a couple of days you may get bombarded with txt and emails warning you that your phone wont work on or after 28 Oct 24, and they give you the voucher code for $200

  • Anyone with the phone has issues where the sound turns on during do not disturb mode. It sounds like an emergency alert but there is no notification on emergency alert history or notification history and I can't find where it comes from to disable. It has happened twice for me in 1 month.

  • I've got one. Camera is fine for my needs and the phone is as well. Only thing I'd criticise is at times it can sometimes page freeze when I have a lot of pages open. Easily solved by backing out and in again. It's a lot of phone for $179 imo.

  • My dad needs an upgrade.
He currently has an iPhone which works with 3g.

He uses it for making calls/bomb/horse racing but also likes taking some photos. But worried the camera might not be good enough.

    • What iphone does he have ? If its 8-9year old then the G54 will be an upgrade anyway

  • +2

Considering a bunch of phones with 4gb RAM are still being sold for over $300 this is such a bargain, with or without amaysim voucher.

The camera could be better but what do people really expect from something this price? You can't have everything

    • Just install and use Google Camera (gcam mod) and it's great with low noise (low ISO). But, I have noticed taking photo of a lamp in very dark room is better with Moto camera compared with gcam mod (maybe need deeper setting change).

  • Does this phone work with Boost esim?
Has anyone activated esim with Boost mobile? for that matter any other network, Optus, Voda?
None of them listed this phone in their esim compatible phones list.

    • +1

Amaysim esim (Optus) works in this phone.

    • +1

I haven't tried the esim, but Boost Mobile physical sim card works in this phone. There is a 2G setting in the phone that must be disabled, so Boost works no problem.

    • Just activated boost esim with Moto G54. Straight forward and No issues.

  • Does it take a SIM AND an SD card, or is it SIM OR an SD card? In other words can I install a Sim and an SD at the same time?

    • SIM AND SD

  • Just a note you can't easily root this phone because of the MediaTek chip.

    • Is that popular anymore?

I did that over 10 years ago, but perhaps it's my old age, I just want things that work. The tinkering leads to headaches and troubleshooting for not much benefit lol

  • much better than the 4G Redmi 12

But Redmi lets you disable data per app.

    • I have Adguard app and it can disable data per app too on any android phones.

  • Solid deal for anyone who got hit by the 3G cutoff!
