Blair Athol 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna Single Malt Whisky $69 (Member's Price, $129 RRP) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Dan Murphy's

1500

After missing out on so many Amazon Scotch deals I was trawling for something that might take my fancy and stumbled on this Scotch from Uncle Dan's.
It was previously posted on OzB over a year ago at $100, but this is quite a bit cheaper than that. It's out of stock at Nicks (though it's listed as $170 RRP there!?)

It's meant to be a cracking drop! Thanks for sharing got myself a bottle.

Have you tried? I'm seeing wide variety of reviews, mostly 5/10 by whisky reviewers.

      • Each this own I reckon

      • +2

One Reddit review I just checked gave it 82/100. That was the users ~140th review, so I expect they would know a thing or two.

        Another YT channel gave it 3.5/5 ( @ $60usd)

        I think for $70 it's definitely worth a crack.

On a side note I've gone from 0 single malts at home to all of a sudden 5 different bottles in the past week 😅 (HELP!)

sounds a bit like my slowing growing collection. Love a single malt and a bargain

@xtracrazy69: Me too - I should do more drinking and less buying though. I'm up to about 15 bottles now

  • Thanks Op

Thanks, bought a couple to replace the daily drinker.

How do you find these deals? I can never get the website or app to sort prices properly or only display discounted stuff.

  • Nice one, purchased.

    • I can see it, but it says expired when trying at checkout

    • Updated on site that this offer has been expired now

  • Thanks - was able to get a bottle.

  • Thanks OP bought one…

The remorse of missing the Laga 12 deal on Amazon made me FOMO into this one lol

  • Why does this bottle look astoundingly similar to Dailuaine from the previous post?

  • Thanks for sharing the info! Got myself a bottle at my local DM. There's about 6 left.

  • Scored 3 at my local DM, thank you! That was the max I could order at this member price.

    "Closure Cork"

Yuck. I hope that is an error.

    • +4

      Pretty common for Whiskey.

      • I do have a vague memory of a cork stopper in whiskey now that I think about it. Aberlour I think it was. Absolutely no advantage to it over a simple screw caps for whiskey since it does not age in the bottle, and the disadvantages are obvious.

  • Got 1 and ready to pick up. But this one is cheaper per L. I'm a Whiskey noob.

If you want to get into it more, my advice is pick a region (Highland, Islay, Lowland, Speyside and Campbeltown) and get a few different bottles from there, don't worry too much about brands yet. Then move onto another region. Don't finish off a bottle, hold some back and do side by side comparisons. After a while you'll know what you like. Oh, keep some cheap stuff around for when you get too enthusiastic.

      • +2

That’s good advice. I also found that speyside was the best for my entry into the world of whiskey - tended to be a tad sweeter and more approachable. Islay ones tended to be a bit too peaty/smoky for me. And highlands ones were somewhere in between the two, which I enjoy now. Of course, these are broad generalisations, but something to keep in mind.

  • Got the last one at Cannington store.

    Hope it's good.

  • Got one, I've been eyeing this one for a little bit and so happy to not have missed out! Although with all these whisky deals lately my budget is really running low…

The DM website is so crap on both iOS and Android, is the app any better?

  • Thanks OP.

Anyone get theirs in a box? Or brown bag?

    • +1

Just picked mine up (3 bottles). Disappointed to say, it's just 3 bottles in a wine box. The whisky itself doesn't come with a box. For. Whisky that retails >$100 and no box. Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Ardbeg are pretty much same price or cheaper and they come in a box.

      • Same here . All my single malts have always come in a nice box, including the value ones like GF 12

        • +3

Yeah it's very disappointing especially at this price range. One of my bottles' labelling also has a tear on the side like it's been etched with a knife. If I go to a dinner party and gift something like this, it surely does not look like a $100+ bottle.

          • @gezza90: At $69 you’re complaining there’s no box?

            • +1

              @punkel: $129 RRP

            • @punkel: Yeah pretty much. Its a $69 bottle only good for self consumption. It looks way too low end as a proper gift for someone.
Like punkel said, its a lot lower expectations for this.

          • +2

            @gezza90:

If I go to a dinner party and gift something like this, it surely does not look like a $100+ bottle.

So just buy something else that does look like it was $100 ?!

I can't imagine buying booze based on how expensive the bottle looks, what a weird thing to do 😂

      • +1

They are doing that more and more recently, apparently to save the environment (I say to cut cost). Lucky if you get a cardboard (as in paper like) box these days.

        • It's Diageo's strategy towards a more sustainable future. They ditched the boxes for the black/double black almost 2 years ago and now they're trialling paper bottles.

      • -1

From memory i. dont think A'Bunadh comes in a box either and thats around 170

        • A'Bunadh does come in a box, even their 12 does.

    • +1

Just use a box of XL Magnums for this, assert dominance

  • Thanks OP, got 1

Cracked this open with the boys this afternoon. Generally well accepted as a decent drop. Not the best we’ve had for $130 not the worst. At $69 though it’s a good deal.

I’d be happy if someone bought me this, box or no box.

  • Just ordered… for $9 in delivery, I'd rather have it delivered as i buy something else if i enter Dan Murphy :D

  • Anyone tried it yet?

There's still some in stock 45mins drive from me.
I could make other excuses to go there to make it worth while…..

  • Merged from Blair Athol 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna Single Malt Whisky $69 Member's Price ($128.99 RRP) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Dan Murphy's
    Go to Deal

One of my all-time favourites now back in stock at the same member's price as last month.

A full, rich and spicy 12-year-old single malt whisky. Slightly dry on the finish with lots of sherry notes and a slight hint of minty herbal notes. An interesting whisky with an unusual sweet aftertaste.

    Edit: Looks like they've re-stocked!

    • No stock within 50km.

      • Forever, just leave the cap on.

          thanks Beerbudget
you are not joking, are you?

          • +2

@Fanzao: well it does last until you open it , then you drink it and it’s gone. but on serious side, it stops improving once it leaves the barrel. it stays the same in a sealed bottle, once you open it, and it gets air it will start to oxidize so you want to drink it within 6 mths or so if you want it at its best. but a sealed bottle lasts years with no degradation.

            • @garage sale: Many thanks garage sale, good to learn these.

              • @Fanzao: I watch a lot of whisky reviews online and whisky connoisseurs have compared an opened bottle from 1970 to new one just opened. Taste was 95% the same with the new one tasting just a tad fresh. Could just be placebo… But an unopened bottle can last forever, however, it doesn't age in bottle. Only ages in barrel.

                • @gezza90: Thanks gezza90, then confident to get one even I won't drink it recently. ordered the last one from the store 9 mins away where I am going this Sunday. Lucky.

This was out of stock the other day but it has stock in Launceston now

      • Looks like its back in stock in a few other stores around the country too!

    • Remember, this does not come in a box.

    • Got two bottles west end brisbane not as smooth as I like but drinkable.

    • Very nice daily this one. I actually think it is better than the lag12 special that has been popping up at 99. I'll keep an eye out for more of these!

  • This is available in VIC again…
