Gulf Western Premium Gold 15W-40 5L $20.49 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ $130 Order) @ Supercheap Auto

Semi Synthetic oil which is wet clutch friendly! I use this in my three quad bikes and in my older hiace campervan. None of these vehicles gets a lot of use but the oil gets changed annually whether it needs it or not.

Best price Ive seen for a while, so Ive replenished my stocks!

Looks like the paddock bashers are getting an oil change. This is cheap.

  • To help you save even more money, you should know that oil age doesn't matter much (don't change it just because it has been a year since the last change)

Indeed, when it comes to lubrication, you don't want it to be premature.

Any links to the actual tests and results? Lots of variables involved. Using that as a maxim would suggest that old engines which have stood for years with minimal use should be clean as a whistle, which is clearly often not the case.

      • Nah, I don't know the results, besides what Blackstone said on their podcast. They have info about their 'standard' tests on their website, but I don't know if they did other tests.
Yeah, an engine that has stood for a while will probably have other issues, but the oil's lubricating properties won't have changed much.

        • Engine sludge says hello.

That's a strange conclusion to draw from that study - Oil sitting in a sealed bottle on the shelf is very different to oil exposed to an engine, temperature changes, moisture exposure etc.

Read further in the article or listen to the podcast. They also took old oil from engines and tested that.
Yeah, condensation moisture is probably the biggest factor - if you haven't driven for a while to evaporate the water then that will be an issue.

To be honest, this is OK for Aussie weather.

Your veekil would accept a range of different viscosities, not just the default (and most expensive) 5w-30.

    • More to it than that though, esp with modern, tight tolerance engines. Is the diff significant to most drivers? Probably not.

  • Need Gulf western Syn-X 6000 5W-40 same price please.

    • $17 consideration: for your car & use, do you think the differences is significant ?

      • It is not just money, it is oil specs. Even if it is $1 or free I would not put it in my car. Whichever meets your car's specs buy the cheapest one. Don't pay for oil brand.
