Boost Mobile - How Long Do I Need to Port out for to Be a New Customer?

Looking to take advantage of
Boost Mobile: $80 Cashback on 170GB 12-Month Prepaid SIM for $230 Delivered @ TopCashback AU
deal. I am currently a Boost customer, on the $230 plan. Plan expires in around 40 or so days.

Obviously this deal is for new customers only.

Do I need to port out for 30 days? Or would 10 or 20 days be enough? When do I order the SIM card if I need to activate within 30 days to get the cashback?

If I don't need to port for 30 days, can I order the sim today and then switch providers and back before the 30 days ends?

Many thanks for any clarification those more experienced in sim swapping can provide. Thank you

In this case you only need to successfully port away, and then you can activate the sim card. Can be a day.
Also sim swapping is not really the right term, imo

And yes, you can order it now, port away and then activate it to get the cashback as long as its within the 30 days

I was looking for a less coarse term to the usual word

lmao yeah fair. I forgot about that term.

That's great. I'll order it today and then switch to another provider a few days before activating the Boost sim.

      Thanks for the help :)

Not a problem. I've been with Boost for years now and did this exact method for my last recharge with no issues.
There's always people saying that you can livechat with Boost and get them to put the recharge on without porting away but that seems 50/50 and porting away for a day always works.

Last time I did it, about 5 minutes.

5 mins or as long as it takes to port out, as soon as the port is complete you can port back in.

you don't need to wait 24 hours like some people may suggest

  • What SIM card is cheapest without needing to top up $10-20 to activate?

    • I've used the $5 Sim from aldi before, mostly due to convenience/ease of access.

  • Port out of Boost took about 5m last time.

I generally do about a month away from Boost to get an idea of how another network would work for me. This time was a cheap Vodafone sim with expected results - issues on trains, etc.

Port back to boost also took about 5m.

    7 eleven has a Optus $12 sim for $6 till 29 October 2024.
    5Gb data incl.

Gives 7 days to try Optus ;)

Not sure I'd want to go back to Optus after the data breach haha

  • I bought telstra $2 sim - hopefully works as a port in/port out

      Did it work?

Let us know mate so we can be sure if it works.

    • Did it end out working?

  • If I have 2 mobiles on my account, can I port out one of them to take advantage of the Cashback, leaving the other on Boost? Would I be classed as a new customer if I already have another mobile number with them?

  • I am already on boost and wife plan was expiring on 23rd oct mine mid dec.
She was only few days out me couple of months out.
As boost is removing or has removed as of 21st I believe maybe I did it a day to early as was lead to believe no longer available from 21st.
I recharged her account $230 and mine $230

Weird thing is both old recharge and new are showing in account is this normal for both of us?
Maybe the old one drops off when that actually date passes? And then new one kicks in.
All that matters it says the recharge we did yesterday is good till 2025.
It’s annoying the new recharge did not start once old is past

    • It’s annoying the new recharge did not start once old is past

Unfortunately we can't have the cake and eat it too. With the cashback, it's still worth it to lose a month of service to stay on this plan

      • Wife had a few days mine was 2 months im not winging about it just don’t make sense if you have recharged it still shows old one.
I never did cashback as i believe you get nothing for recharge

        • Ah, I see. That is odd. Maybe contact Boost? Explain that you thought the recharge would have kicked in after expiry?

@thisusernameistaken: I have asked wife to contact them as her old plan was due for renewal 23rd so really ends today or after midnight.
But her gb is like 103gb not 160gb this is a recharge she did prior to boost removal of this plan.
So it should have everything that comes with this plan.
I asked her to see what it says after today see if it changes as if not she has not got what she paid for.

Mine is not due for renewal till mid o close to end of December but I also did a recharge early to keep me going till oct next year.
Mine still has old and has new plan showing in my account with current old plan active.

            • @bwatt72: Hopefully you can get it all sorted and have the correct renewal dates. I can't offer any insights here as I've always ported out to another provider or renewed as close as to the expiry anyway.

              • @thisusernameistaken: As i thought it be when wife previous recharge expired the new one kicked in so come around Xmas time when my old recharge expires the new one will replace it.
