Sim Slutting - Other Benefits?

Hello All,

Today I learned a new word - sim slutting.

If I understand it correctly, it means changing the mobile number monthly.

I am about to joining the sim slutting family with a dual sim phone - one for receiving phone calls and the other for the data usage.

Also I found some other benefits for the new number: for example,

New user often gets promotional offer on Uber, Liven, and some take away apps.

What else?

I used to sim slut every 90 days or 120 days depending on the deals. This was primarily between Catch, Kogan and the amaysim groupon deals.

The 90 day plans were $15 each before cashback and the groupon amaysim was sometimes even under $10 however the data was insufficient for it.

Your best bet is to start off with kogan/catch with a decent cashback promo. You can look into belong, etc. later. Others might be able to chip in about those.
With every new number you can at least get:
    - Ubereats (try to get the $30 off or at the very least $15 off)
    - Doordash (refer from your main account and use the credits on that main account + one free delivery on your 'new' number)

I left those days now and just have a boring 365 day plan

    What else?

Makes it harder for creditors/ex-partners to track you down.

Not quite. it usually means porting your existing number to a new carrier monthly (or thereabouts)

  • You'll have to rely on another type of communication (eg Signal, Watsapp, FB-m) to keep up with friends and family. Otherwise people will be txting and calling your old number. Even worse is for work, that hardly gets updated by people, and they never rely on alternate messengers to SMS or In-House.

Freesimcards.com have atleast one free sim per month with good data

One advantage is when you call people from a new number all the time they tend not to answer, which is great if you didn't really want to speak to them in the first place.

Why would you call someone you don't want to talk to?

  • I think it is only worth doing if your internet heavily relies on mobile data.

    • Felix Mobile would be the best option for that.

      • I think less than 30% of the population would prefer VF to be their 1st choice.

Sounds like a lot of hassle to save very little. Time mustn’t be a factor in ones life here.

It's actually very little effort and you can save quite a bit.

I use to pay $79 a month for my plan, switched to Boost took less then 5 minutes, went from an annual bill of $948 down to $150. Now with amaysim $45 after cashback for 6 months.

I wouldn't do it monthly but it is surprising how many people pay high phone bill, other utility bills, interest rates and so on because they perceive that it is to difficult or not worth there time, a 15 minute phone call can save you a fair bit.

It has the potential for a lot more hassle than you'd expect. When it goes smoothly, it's 5 mins a month. I did it for a long time. Very tempting in the days of $30 Woolies cards for $1. Eventually Telstra wouldn't port me anymore. It took multiple visits to a store with all my ID to fix it. I didn't port my main number after that!
