      Why not just google it?

  • These pans are great. We have a few at my home

Ohhh just missed this - coincidentally I was about to buy some as these came second on Choice's 2024 Frypan test.

    • Which one are first out of curiosity?

This one (Circulon Stainless Steel Hybrid) which is conveniently half price at the moment! https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08XMYTN6G?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_…

        • +1

I bought one of those and to be honest it's not fantastic.

The rings have no non stick so good sticks to those but doesn't stick to in between.

Plus the coating outside of the rings isn't stronger than any other non-stick, I've used mine three times with plastic utensils and it's scratched

  • If anyone that got the set doesn't need their 20cm pan, I've been after one for a while now.

  • best versatile size frying pans ?

    • I'd say so. Easy to use, and last long enough for the price.

You can purchase the 8" and 10" (non-induction) set from Amazon for $68 with free shipping using Amazon Prime: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B004DPFIFU

Those are different (hard anodised), possibly better

  • That was a pretty good deal. WAS

  • Project Farm tested a whole bunch of frypans, this was #1. The coating and durability was the best.

10" is $100 atm, but can be picked up for around $60 during a sale.

Tefal is decent, but non stick wears off after 2 years of regular use.

    • I feel like that's the problem with all non stick.

I bought a stainless steel pan via a deal posted here, but hasn't shipped and it's been 2 months :(

So I jumped on this deal

  • ew single bolt connected pans …

I've had some good Tefals but they're overpriced for what they are having tried others now that for a start use two bolts.

    • I had a few of these exact frypans, the bolt was never a problem. Non-stick would wear off (in 2 years or so) before you may get any issues with the handle.

  • Kind of regret buying these now knowing the non stick only lasts 2 years.

I wouldn't use paper towels to wipe these down and also the scrub daddy sponge might be too harsh.

Apart from letting them cool down, what else can one do to increase their longevity?

    • +2

Keep the heat to low/medium which is extremely hard.
Don't clean it in dishwasher even though it states it is safe.

All the non stick pans I have ruined is all from high heat cooking. But it's near impossible to not do on a gas stove.

You know the coatings ruined when the colour of the non stick coating starts to get a brown sheen instead of the dark grey and no amount of cleaning will remove the brown stain.

      • Are there any signs other than brown stains that tells you the non stick coating is wearing off?

I missed this deal but asking cuz I bought non stick pans from ikea last month.

        • +2

The coating doesn't wear off unless you scratch it with a sharp metal instrument, the issue is the high heat cooking causes permanent changes to the coating where food/oils permanently embeds onto the pan. especially from constant repeated high heat cooking

Think of it as unintended seasoning of your non stick pan which does the reverse to the non stick coating compare to a carbon/cast iron pan.

The IKEA pans use similar non stick technology, will get similar results in cooking.

Also I have done warranty claims before on their so call lifetime warranty due to the non stick coating failing. They always pointed the issue back to the high heat cooking and it being user fault which is laughable.

You can't do low heat cooking unless all you cook is pancakes and eggs.

Look up “PFAS” then make an informed decision if you wish to continue using Teflon as your non-stick solution

    • +1

I also tried to warn. People just negged me without understanding

      • +2

I've looked into it, and from what I can tell people PFAS is a gigantic group of chemicals. Some are considered carcinogenic, and most are not. Tefal says that it does not use any PFAS considered carcinogenic by health authorities. Their box says in big betters "Safe Non-stick - No PFOA". So it appears that there has been confusion as to what is safe. By all credible accounts, these non-stick pans do not pose health concerns. These are, however, forever chemicals which have an environmental impact.

    • +1

Tefal doesn't use Teflon, but it's probably the same sort of thing.

      • Teflon is the trademarked name for PTFE non stick coating which all non stick pans is now made from. Every manufacturer is making their own so they don't have to pay licensing fees to Teflon.

Ceramic coating/hard anodised etc etc if they claim it's non stick it will have a PTFE polymer coating on it. And that coating disintegrates into PFAs when it's heated above 300degreesC and yes very toxic.

        • +1

If you're heating to above 300c, you're burning things.

I don't even heat my cast iron that high when cooking steaks, so I'd never come close using a non-stick because I don't even cook steaks on it.
