  • Does anyone know of any good insoles for this boot (or any doc martens really)?

FYI - Only size 10-13 available (UK)

  • Jaden Vegan only available in size UK3. $99 https://www.platypusshoes.com.au/jadon-ii-mono-vegan-2531000…

isn't build quality of docs rather rubbish these days?

    • +11

For retail price yeah. At a discount they're pretty solid. The big thing to avoid is their "smooth leather" products are they're the plastic infused leather that once cracked is completely ruined.

Solovair is the way to go for authentic Docs but you have to take the risk of ordering overseas so if you fail with size it's gonna be expensive business.

Worse than before, yes. Rubbish? No.
      Style remains iconic

If anyone is ever unsure of Boot quality, check out Rose Anvil on youtube. That guy cuts them in half and reviews them, and yeah, docs are basically crappy sneakers at this point.

Solovairs are much higher quality for a very similar look.

    • A Goodyear welted boot for $99 is alright though?

      • I think for the $99 this boot is pretty good comparatively, especially if it ticks off the style you are after.

But when compared against other boots around their retail of $369.99. They are judged and compared a lot harsher..

  • Does anyone know how the sizing is, are they true to size, or how they compared to adidas sizing etc?

    • Not too sure, ordered 2 pairs in different sizes. Did read on Reddit and Amazon reviews that the 1460 Pascal run a bit narrow compared to the 1460 🤷‍♂️

      • Cool, easy to return clearance?

I kind of like boots a little bigger anyway, wool socks etc too.

Seems to be safe going by the website info, usually they put a disclaimer if they picky with returns on sale/clearance.

          • @Spagetttt: I read the t&c and I think you are right in that it should be okay.

My experience with the 1460s is they tend to run large, especially given they break in a lot. The boxy-fit also contributes to running large (depends on you foot width/shape). It does depend on the material - the classic plastic-infused shiny leather doesn't break in as much compared to their more matte, less-plastic finishes. Its partially up to how many blisters you wanna put up with for the break-in period: if you're willing to have a worse experience with a smaller size you'll get a more sock-like fit after a couple months.

  • Thanks OP - taken a jump into my first pair of Docs with this deal, so fingers crossed they're as good as people say they are.

      Me too. Thanks OP

Is this model made in England still?

i am getting results suggesting they might be..

    • +2

They aren't — only the stuff labeled that says "vintage" at the end of the style name is. Its only a few iconic styles/colours (1460 Boots, 1461 shoes), you can see if you go to their site and search "made in england". The made in england boots don't have a great review for their price (probably much worse value that the normal ones on a small sale), the Solovairs are the actual thing you want if you want high quality made-in-england docs, if you can manage to get them here.

      • Cool, thanks for that. It must have been because some 1460 are, I couldn't find where these are made.

  • I have a pair of these from the last time they were reduced. Very soft leather and at size 9 for me they fitted perfectly and comfortable. The colour is not everybody's favourite.

    • You are normally a size 9 and a size 9 fit perfectly?

  • +1

    Thanks. Picked up a pair…

For those wondering on size, they run slightly big but I found one size down too small…

Would you listen to a Sex Pistols Chinese cover band?

    • +2

      ….. Actually yeah I would.

      ANARCHY IN THE T SQUARE!!!!!

  • My experience now is the sizing of these boots run larger by about 1 size.

  • I'm size 9.5 UK and I purchased UK 10. l have wide feet. These shoes are fantastic, super happy with my first pair of docs. They are so comfortable. It also is is not as light coloured as I had feared. It has dark tones.

I still regret missing the deal on black made in England boots for $150 years before COVID.

Thanks OP for this great deal.
