    $1896 total cost for $79 @ 24 months.
The previous preorder price was $879 with a $50 voucher for accesories.

So for this deal, you're effectively paying $1017 for 24 months of JB Hi-fi/ Telstra service, which is $42 a month. Might be some value depending on the early termination fee, otherwise pretty average.

    • +25

The deal is to cancel and pay $606.90

      • Yeah that's decent, I just didn't know what the early termination fee was and I missed it in the deal cause I was on my phone.

        • +19

I know of a 6.7" phone with a crisp display and fast refresh rate that's easy to read, and it's only $606.90!

          • @freefall101: Hahaha yeah, I was considering an upgrade to this from my trusty G54, but I want more reviews out before I do so

            • +2

@Michael15286: I loved my G54 so much that it went from being a temporary phone to permanent phone for nearly 10 months. But now I felt I needed something different hence got this deal

              • +3

@codename47: Yeah was in the same boat, this phone was supposed to last me until I got a new screen for my old phone (S20 FE), but I ended up giving that to my brother and kept this. If I had known I'd like it so much I would have splurged for the OLED varient, the G84

          • -1

@freefall101: Is this an honest and reliable review? I heard battery gets hot and won't last long

            • @Rebu: No, it’s definitely a joke.

I am not known for my honesty or reliability. But my sarcasm is on point.

      • The deal states the Ts & Cs which replaces the maximum voucher repayment fee in the CIS with whatever the voucher amount is for the deal right?

So do you have to cancel with Telstra and hope they don't realise you're on a JB Hifi plan OR cancel with JB Hifi and hope they don't enforce the true voucher repayment terms?

I feel like I'm missing something.

        • Nah its exactly like what has been written in the description. I just got mine and cancelled the plan. $606 pretty much

  • -1

What's the RRP of the phone normally?

    • +2

$1087 if you follow the link…

    • +2

$1099 via Samsung AU for the 128GB (and 1199 for 256GB).

  • How is the chip? I haven't kept an eye on Samsung chips for a long time.

    • +1

People reckon its a sliver worse than the standard 24/24+ chip, same as an amd 7500/7600 if you know that comparison better.

    • +1

      Exynos.

So some would debate that if you can get one at roughly the same price range, you're better off with the S23 line (non-FE) with the Snapdragon processor.

      • +2

This, unless you keep your phone normally for more than 3 years (4 yrs software support vs 7 on the S24 FE).

Ofc, not everyone cares about having the latest Android.

    • Dualsims? Sd expandability?

  • +4

newbie here can someone please explain in simple term, Can i sign up for that plan 79/month for 24month plan with free galaxy S24fe and then cancel before end of first month with total cost of $606.90 or im reading it wrong ?

    • +2

      Correct

      • appreciate your response, is there any other catch to it ?

        • +1

Doesn't it effect your credit? I might be mistaken but I remember reading something like that.

        • +5

You need to follow the steps correctly or you may end up in jail.
          😁😁

      • Wow sounds so simple, what can go wrong…

      • Will I get $550 voucher as well (with free phone ) for which I will return $527.09 (23 months voucher equivalent) ? Sounds weird.

        • +3

No , you get a house as well as a car !
          Crazy right ?

    • You have answered yourself

  • +5

Wouldn't it be better to get the S24 FE 256GB for $87?

    • +26

Wouldn't it be better to keep your current phone for $0?

      • +1

Did you know you can sign up, get the phone for $87, return it to JB and get a $1,187 gift card, then cancel the plan, pay $527, and chat with Telstra to get a $79 refund?

        • Wtf.

        • Then you loose the phone and the plan.. so whats you on about?

        • How can i get then phone for $87?
And can i return the phone ang get a iphone instead and pay the difference??

        • -2

I don't think you can, this used to be a loophole a couple years ago to change phone into something like iPhone or any other items that's never on sale. But JB has fixed it, the phone IMEI you got is marked as JB telco deal which you can't exchange or refund. Happy to be proven wrong but I've tried this before on multiple stores a couple years ago, I don't think they want to reopen the loophole on purpose.

          • @yummypinacolada: then how are people returning it for a GC?

            • +1

@Fuzzy69: Who have successfully returned their phone for GC? I won't believe jimojr claim unless he can provide a receipt in here or you can try it at your own risk.

              • @yummypinacolada: I returned with s24U and got a $1700 gift card from previous deal

                https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/46868/116437/screensho…

                • @easternculture: If I'm not wrong, that deal specifically had a gift card attached to it (not a mobile phone)

                • @easternculture: Cool, do you mind sharing which stores you have successfully refund your phone? I did try all stores(5 in total) in Sydney CBD a couple years back, all got rejected because it has been marked as Telco deal.

                  • @yummypinacolada: Depends what you tell them. They cant deny you a refund under consumer law. You are entitled to a refund as per their change of mind policy

                    • @easternculture: Yes, they can deny you a refund, because you don't actually buy the phone. You sign a 2 year contract which they gave you S24FE as a bonus. Anyway, doesn't matter if you don't want to disclose which store as I've done it before without success, we will see if other people willing to try it your way and if indeed is possible.

                      • @yummypinacolada: If its paid by giftcard, they cannot deny it.
They can only deny it if they hand you over the phone as part of the contract, and even then , you can make a sensible argument via TIO and have the phone swapped or credit applied in certain circumstances.
                        Been there, done that.

              • @yummypinacolada: Is there a risk in trying?

                • @Rebu: Not really, the worst thing that could happen is you get to keep your S24FE but couldn't swap it to GC or other item you are after.

      • +1

        Why are you on here?

  • Is it possible to do this jig with the S23? Or is there a better way to procure it at a good price? I'm keen on a smaller physical phone - I like the S23 size.

    • See the comment above, you would be paying +$200, but the answer is yes.

      • Still trying to work out how/why I'd be paying $200 extra for the S23, when I thought it's just the "exit fee" that you're paying for, but maybe I'll work it out eventually!

        • +2

I suspect due to there being no "Get a Samsung S23 for $0 deal" so will cost you whatever their advertised price is.

  • I will never use jb hifi for my plan again. Nightmare to cancel or change. Need to go to the store. Changed my plan to a cheaper plan when the contract expired which they stuffed up badly.the day after my plan expired when into the store to downgrade and they charged me an upfront fee for the new plan even though i just paid my invoice a few days earlier. Same number just a cheaper plan. Complained and admitted fault so they provided a credit. All this had to he done in store.

  • -2

I am completely new to this. How does this work? There seem to be a whole lot of steps to make this reasonable and they are not rather obvious to me

    • Read from top

      • +1

Read from top , fine print , for scammers only .

    • Just turn up in jbhifi and say you want Telstra plan with S24 FE.

They need Port In (number with another provider) but they happily have me a new number :)

You'd go through credit check and if approved walk away with S24 FE but need to do the first month payment of $79.

What happens afterwards depends on how you use your phone and 2 year data. Monthly payment for $79 is required for 24 months.

150 GB data each month included.

  • +1

    Bought it. Thanks op.

    • Did you cancel it already ?

      • Not yet but have 1 month to do it

        • We can cancel anytime right ?

          • +1

@codename47: Yes, I did previous one on the same day. No issues whatsoever, just hop online and say wife said no

  • +1

Will they give me a tax invoice of $1087, so it could be even cheaper by doing TRS?

    • +1

^^^ I have the same question!

    • +2

Yes, they will put full price on the invoice

      • But no gst has been paid yet, apart from on the $79 monthly contract fee. So gst component of the phone is $0, therefore $0 refund. Or are you saying the invoice will say someone paid jb hifi $1087 but not the customer.

If the amount is $1k plus, it needs to have the name of the traveller on the invoice

  • Waiting for the Black Friday deal. Last time it was a Samsung ultra phone plus giftcard with 89/99 dollar per month.

  • +2

How did you come.up with $527.09 and not $550 ?

    • +1

You are already paying for the first month so its 550/24 - 550.

      • +1

        Thanks

  • I'm too afraid to try this incase they update terms of the contract and I miss it to include the updated voucher price and I end up paying full price instead of $550

The previous contract having a clause like below:

The $750 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary.

  • Last time they ran this deal (when s22 ultra was launched), we could get a Samsung S22 Ultra for a extra $300. Pixel 8 was for $0 upfront. Does anyone know if we can get a S24 Ultra for a $300 extra?

    • Maybe. I did look at the past sim only plan and there seems to be deals popping up on the 1st of November. Keep an eye out.

  • Samsung is just overpriced as Apple.

    • Agreed… But not with deals like these, right?

      • I think the better question is: how long can you stretch the life of a phone. The longer, the better value (obviously).

I got a 2nd hand S10 a few years ago. This phone is 5 years old overall, released early 2019.

It is still working fine, I have no complaints about this (performance nor RAM usage - there's no lag anyway) and the battery can last a day with normal usage. Camera is still competitive with Pixels, believe it or not (if anything, you would be complaining about night shots especially compared with Pixels, but the reality is that night shots are comparable with my friend's new Pixel, even he was surprised (as was I)) - but it doesn't have the modern bells and whistles (e.g. AI). Has Samsung Dex (to turn the phone into a desktop when connected to a monitor), Samsung Health to automatically track my steps and sleep cycle, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Does feel like the 'perfect' phone, and it hasn't been updated in yonks.

Previously I was using a S3, then S5 (work). From my experience, I have to say the S series can last a long time. I have no intention of replacing this right now, even though I am tempted with the cheap new Motorola phones we see here on Ozbargain.

        • You should be changing that phone due to cybersecurity risk.

        • The S10 a great phone and camera is much better than my S23….in one important way!
The issue I have with the S23 and suspect the S24 is the same is that if one takes a pic of a A4 sheet, the writing on the top and bottom is blurred so is useless for taking notes. I take pics of e.g. a motherboard whereby one needs to see the small details of everything, the S23 is useless and out comes my S10 which takes amazing pics.
Very annoying. Samsung suggested solution is to move further back BUT then that's too far to capture small print!

Other than that the S23/S24 series is a much better phone and silky smooth. With the latest Android and Samsung features is a decent step-up. Beyond that the S10 is great and still used daily on old OS and without updates.

          • @Borg: Maybe your S23 camera is kinda fked.

I had an Asus phone back in the day and it had that problem. One of the corners was always blurry.

            • @smartProverble: No, its the same with all. I went to a store and tested display ones and same issue. Try one yourself when next around one. Take a Pic of a brochure and you will see that the centre writing is clear but top and bottom will be blurred. Silly indeed and they say this is normal and due to the type of lens in them being "Wide capable"! Stupid design especially as they don;t have a software fix to compensate for this!

          • -1

            @Borg: Its just you mate.
My s23U does NOT suffer from the issue you described

            • +1

@easternculture: The S23 Ultra has different lens types to the S23 so not just me.

  • -2

Afa galaxy simulates ai features area concerned, reminds me of "nothing comes free".. They'll use consumer inputs to improve their product and consumer will ideally be a Ginny pig for their experimentation.. So ideally your are giving them a free ride towards developing a product that they'll later use to charge very you..

    • This is how generative AI works, and everyone does this. Facebook, Google, Samsung, Microsoft…

  • +1

Has anyone done it yet? I am about to go to JB and see if it works out. I might just be able to cancel it there in case..

    • +1

So here is what the reps told me :
$79 plan on its own has a $550 Voucher (Bring your own phone)
$79 plan with $0 Upfront cost of S24 Fe , you do not get $550 Voucher.
The rep said that we process your order as 1099 for your phone and you own that outright and then you pay per month for the plan for 24 months.
If you cancel the plan, you will have to repay the $1099 for the phone and Plan cancellation costs.

      • So if you have to repay the phone and plan cost then this deal does not work no? Or do you cancel with Telstra instead of JB?

      • Can I cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 50 75 or visiting a JB Hi-Fi store. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

        Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee
        $550

Not sure where any terms state that the phone must be paid out in full?

        • It says it there i.e. Max Repayment = $550.
Update: Sorry, you were answering above query and wasn't a question. Yeah, I agree, it is just $550 as per plan agreement. The rep is wrong.

          • @Borg: correct.

          • @Borg: I don't understand this, per the Ts and Cs (in the deal post also) it says the voucher value is replaced by whatever voucher JB gives you. So why isnt the max voucher repayment replaced also?

            • @jonomatic: I suspect it's a systems issue, they cannot change the ETC attached to the plan. So the wording only replaces the value provided and not the ETC.

        • What he showed me on JB screens he logged into that these are three options and when you take the phone with $0 there is no $550 voucher. The voucher of $550 is only if you buy the plan only. You may want to try your luck and let us know if that works.

          • @codename47: Just got off the phone with my local JB who confirmed that early exits are as calculated by the OP. Tried to tell me that I would not have a good standing record with Telstra if I do cancel.
