        it is too expensive

If all you care about is the price then sure. But there's a lot more to a car than the price tag.

Japanese cars like Mazda are definitely at the more premium end especially with their interiors and build quality.

Test drove a Kira Cerato GT a while ago and it was really bland on the inside.

Stepped inside a Mazda 3 of all things and it was completely different.

Hyandai/kia definitely go for the "all things tech" angle as a way to dazzle you. I also think their recent design trend with the i30 and kona are not going to age well at all.

this is one of the dumbest automotive takes i've ever heard haha

    • -2

      Enjoy your "haval" 😂

      • +1

        Whats wrong with havals?

  • -2

    4wd?

    • They do an AWD drive Diesel. My wife has one.

Not sure if they will do AWD in Hybrid?

  • +10

Amazing how the chip shortage and quarantine problems disappeared quietly and those who bought during COVID have been lumped with overpriced and heavily depreciating vehicles. Situation normal with Aussie consumers being gouged from every business sector including the motor vehicle industry. Thanks a bunch.

    • +4

Why blame business when it's the government who printed billions into the economy while simultaneously forcing businesses to shut

    • +3

      overpriced

Show me a new car (besides an EV) which is cheaper now, brand new, than it was brand new in 2020/21 from a major brand

      I'll wait…

Fortunately for buyers, unlike in the US our selling prices were fixed and couldn't exceed listed RRP. In the US, they were putting mark-ups on new cars, which has resulted in those people now being screwed when going to sell/trade now

      • Show me a new car (besides an EV) which is cheaper now, brand new, than it was brand new in 2020/21 from a major brand

Pretty much any chinese made one?

        • +1

Loosely putting those under a major brand :P

Bear in mind, the original comment about overpriced covid cars was put in a Hyundai post, just because they have a $3,000 discount lol not even 10%

          • @spackbace: 10% is quite good. I have been waiting the new Prado for over 6 months. Not negotiable at all. I can't even change the color or spec, I have to otherwise queue from the beginning

            • @shaoyangdl: Yeah some dealers are quoting 3yr wait times on it

              • @spackbace: That is insane. Spending an extra 20k, we can get a GX550 in a couple of months

              • @spackbace: this is why I love teslas business model you never need to deal with a dealership ever. You just order directly from tesla on the website.

  • +7

No thanks, I will buy BYD sealion 6 phev which is a much much better car.

    • PHEV in general has more issue than HEV, ICE, EV car. Basically, part of the vehicle doesn't get enough use.

  • Is all new cars these days come with some sort of "connectivity" / bluelink crap? Do not really want that.

    • +1

you don't have to use it though?

AFAIK mazda doesn't have that sort of stuff, at least my 2024 Mazda 3 doesn't.

I find that Mazda strikes a good balance with tech and things like that. Things that should be physical buttons are, and the tech that they do have isn't going to get in the way (hello, Tesla).

      • I wouldn't use it, but I don't want possibility for anyone to use it. Just don't need that option to exist.
        Thanks, I'll check new Mazda

    • Why don't you want it?

I have similar connectivity in my Ford Ranger and its great. Fuel Level, KMs, Alerts me for any engine errors, remote start, remote lock/unlock, Tyre Pressure. I was dissapointed when I found my wife's 2022 Tuscon didn't come with it, and it was only from 2023 onwards.

But maybe thats me just being nerdy.

  • +5

Would still buy a H6 hybrid or sealion Phev over this personally.
The Tucson and Sportage are on their way out due to being priced out.
They used to fill the budget SUV segment but no more.

    Better tech & longer warranty

    • +1

Agree. Picking up mine on this Saturday. Top spec ultra hybrid version.

    • Yeah they are no longer "budget".

Like Mazda, Hyundai is trying to move upmarket.

    • You won't be happy to get a plugin hybrid. Battery is not large enough. And using petrol means you need to carry that heavy battery. You will be busy in charging to avoid using petrol

      • They're still more frugal than the straight petrol counterparts mind you.

        • But it's more complex and needs to service as an ICE with worries for battery life

  • +1

    Column shift.

    barf

    • +1

It's an automatic…not like you're using the shift more than twice per drive.

    • +1

When I drove my friends Hyundai Kona, it was nightmare fuel.

  • +1

Just noticed Hyundai have a 5 year warranty vs Sister company Kia has 7yrs not sure 5 years cuts it these days with this tech

    • +1

Based on the issues people are having it's the engine you need to worry about

    • +1

Stay clear of them, cannot speak about Kia, but based of my bad experience with hyundai, it would be un-australian of me to not worn you.

  • idk I still prefer an Outlander

  • Consider checking in with a broker. I saved $6k off the top on mine and had someone else do the haggling and the car just arrived on my doorstep.

I used AutoExpert but I'm sure there are other options out there also.

    • Do you mind sharing what price you managed to get and variant?
I managed to get the Tucson Hybrid Premium AWD (one of the premium paints) for $57,844 drive-away for a future 2025 build date.
If someone managed to get it cheaper I’ll go back to the dealer and try to get them to lower the price.

      • Mine is an older non Hybrid 2021 Elite (petrol Turbo). A bit hazy on the numbers now but I think it dropped to $38K from $46K (was 8K off the Hyundai web price at the time, took the broker around a week of playing dealers off each other).

  • Hmm kind of weird for a hybrid to have a torque converter automatic? Aren't almost all of them CVT?

  • This or the BYD Sea lion? Actively looking to buy a PHEV in 3 months timeframe.. thanks

    • +1

haha, Sealion. This is not a PHEV.

    • +1

BYD sea lion 6 due to PHEV.

  • +2

Caveat emptor. Just my opinion, but after being caught up in the ongoing class action involving Hyundai's GDI engines, I'd never touch again.

  • 174 Killa wasps is pretty decent

  • Nob question, if we are usually dring in the highways or freeway with almost no traffic jam, wouldn't hybrid engine consume more petrol than a usual petrol car ?

    • nah Hybrids are very good I remember having one, you could fill it up and the fuel would last about 4 to 8 weeks before you needed to fill up depending on how much travel you do.

Plug in hybrids though you will never need to really fill up for several months if all you travel is 100km or less.

      • I would travel around 120kms per day and around 100kms will be on freeway with no traffic. I was avoiding to get hybrid engine as I read it only worth it when you are driving in around city or where there are many stop start due to traffic congestion.

Plus to replace the hybrid battery is about $2500 ?

        • it depends on the brand of car. the prices can range between 2500 and 10k from what I have found. But again depends on the car and the brand. I am sure though you can get a part price from most dealerships.

        • for you better get an EV if can charge overnight. save a fortune on fuel.

          • @jimwh: yeah I agree if you can afford to go to an EV with the km you do every day its going to save you a fortune in fuel and service cost.

            • @kungfuman: In return of saving fuel and service cost, I will pay dearly when the battery needs to be replaced

              • @yht: EVs have 8 years warranty on batteries if it failed it’s replaced for free

              • @yht: Your scenario is best scenario for an EV. The battery is stronger than you thought.

    • Yes for the Tucson hybrid you get 6.5 litres per 100km on the highway. The petrol version gets 5.8-6.3 litres per 100km. However unless you travel like 50-100km each drive, you'll likely still see slightly higher efficiency from the hybrid. Since you'll get 3.6 per 100km in city.

I'm not sure how, but my RAV4 hybrid gets about the same city and highway. Cruising at 110kph I get about 5.2 per 100km. At 80 kph I get 4.6-4.8.

      • Yeah, that is what I thought

        • Obviously there are heaps of other reasons to get a hybrid.

About 30% increased power from the non hybrid. About 1 sec 0-100 faster.

Instant power boost for passing and acceleration.

Quiet and ultra smooth driving in city.

The electric motor gives a nice boost to the petrol motor limiting strain on the engine and allowing the engine to run much less often.

The Toyota hybrids have been ultra reliable for me. In my Prius Hybrid the only issue i had was needing to change the starter battery in 200k of ownership. The original brakes pads had about 80% wear remaining. It's very common for the taxis to last 500k with little to no issues including the hybrid battery.

  • -1

better off getting a toyota rav4

    • +3

Agreed - at this price range, go with Japanese brand like Toyota or Mazda. Less issues and will most likely last longer.

Or BYD if you prefer high tech EV.

Make no sense to go for korean cars anymore. Too expensive tbh.

      • friend of mine has a santa fe 2019 model the shape just before the latest model, diesel engine, has a timing chain rattle, hyundai didnt want to know anything about it, and it was 3 months out of warranty, he tried raising it to the dealership, and head office, got no where so he just gave up and got it fixed himself

  • +2

Hyundai is one of main offenders which collect and share driver data
    https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/is-your-car-spying-on-…

  • This or atto 3 ?

    • You decide. They're so different it's personal preferencs and this comment will only stir shit up..again.

    • it depends on your personal circumstance, how many KMs you drive and if you have access to NL etc.

    • ATTO or BYD Sealion 6
Take a test drive and decide.

  • +3

Not here to start a debate but anyone seriously considering this should also look at the BYD Sealion 6.

Same sized SUV with way more features. Battery only range of over 80KM in the real world measured at 100% to 25% (car always maintain a 25% buffer by design) - and this is for the AWD variant as well. Base model gets you up to 90KM on a 100% to 25% cycle.

6 years or 150,000KM warranty on the car and 8 years 160,000KM warranty on the battery. BYD is here to stay.

Only issue if you can call it one is servicing costs. Likely due to involving AP Eagers and/or Mycar into the mix. Your local mechanic should still be able to do you a good price though.

    • I test drove BYD sealion 6 and it is mind blowing, the features and build look spectacular. However, my mind is ON all electric now, So either Xpeng G6 or some other electric car.

    • I consider the main issues to be parts and after sales support. I have been enjoying our Seal but I'm seriously worried about ever having an accident or anything going wrong.

    • Dont they have a fixed service price every interval, pretty reasonable for annual cost base.

If you arent in rush and can wait for next year, they released the new 5th gen of DM-i, on the same body Sealion 6 and Sealion 5.0 (Song Plus, Song L, or Song Pro) in local China. The problem is, not sure when EVdirect (Au distributor) will import them here aa they are busy with the release of Shark (phev utte)

  • I love my 2017 Tucson, had 5 good years with it before selling it.

  • +1

After I test drove Tesla, I just can't look at ICE anymore. They seem OLD.

Why are people not progressing to electric vehicles. I had the similar mentality before my test drive.

Just go for a test drive guys, I was mind blown by the driving ease and comfort. Looking forward to other electric cars especially Xpeng G6, I hope it lives upto its billing as a Tesla killer.

    • Just go for a test drive guys, I was mind blown by the driving ease and comfort.

Driving ease and comfort have absolutely nothing to do with the type of engine a vehicle has.

Why are people not progressing to electric vehicles. I had the similar mentality before my test drive.

Plenty of reasons. Biggest one I can think of is anyone that lives in an apartment without the ability to charge it.

I love how you point to your test drive with Tesla. I can't stand them. The interior looks like it is unfinished and the touch screen to do everything is the worst user experience in a vehicle I've ever seen.

      • +1

I disagree re driving ease and drive type. Having instant throttle response and power all the time does actually make a car easier to drive.
Edit - I don't own a Tesla, this comment is about EVs in general.

  • +1

I was looking at buying a veloster or kia koup turbo a while ago secondhand. The 1.6lt Turbo GDI kia hyundai motor drives really sweetly but I noted when going through ads there were a hell of alot of replaced with wreckers motors or rebuilt motors on clean cars with moderate kms. Im not sure if that GDI motor does the kms is what im saying. I would recommend a RAV4 hybrid in regards to long term reliability that 2.5lt motor is very reliable and has long service intervals etc.

  • Why not consider PHEV

An example would be Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV which gives the best of both worlds.

  • Sealion 6 instead?

  • +3

Why does every EV post have to end in the same pointless debate each time, or someone inevitably brings up 'China' like it's a dirty word and almost everything they own is probably from China. It's a bargain website… Some people might want an EV to suit their needs, some might want a hybrid, some might want petrol/diesel. Good thing we have a choice and people can make their own decisions to suit their needs.

    • This car has nothing to do with China too.

  • +2

I really wish they bring back the Diesel Tucsons, they are the exact sized car that I prefer..Santa-fe is too big for my taste..

    • I didn't realise they got rid of the Diesel variant. I must've gotten in early. My wife has a 2022 Tucson Elite N-Line 2L Diesel. It's a zippy car! Definitely a shame they no longer do it.

Have you looked at a Palisade? or still a bit big?

      • MY2024 has it, MY2025 doesn't. Hybrid replaced the diesel in MY2025.

        • Thats a shame.

  • ON TOPIC - This recently facelifted Hyundai Tucson is a great mid-sized hybrid SUV. However, unfortunately the rear indicator lights are tiny and positioned very low on the vehicle making them difficult to see when operating. Perhaps Hyundai will address this safety issue for the new model next year.

    • However, unfortunately the rear indicator lights are tiny and positioned very low on the vehicle making them difficult to see when operating

Yes, I agree with this, they are low and annoying. Same with the reversing lights, would be much better to have them higher.

  • +2

EV haters complaining about the time taken to fully charge, then go ahead and waste more time than that in here showing everyone that they’re a bunch of snowflakes.

  • I got an old Tuson (IX35) recently for an alright deal, it is good so far and got 135kw/392Nm AWD with centre diff lock, turbo make it go brooom! Nothing complex, good old Hyundai R engine with 6speed traditional auto. Fuel efficient in highway.

I think you can find better deals with old cars like these, specially most are afraid of them due to infamous Theta 2 engines.

  • +1

Don't by this crap, bad experience with hyundai ix35, owned from new, car fully serviced by hyundai dealers, car died at 184,000km.

    • +1

theta 2 petrol engine? joined.class action?

      • Yes, petrol engine, I put my details in a hat a few mouths back, no one has contacted me in regards to it. The car died start of the year, so it all very fresh raw.

  • +1

Hyundai got a shitty direct customer service.

So hopefully things wont play up.

  • +1

These have a bad engine and with only 5 years warranty I would be hesitant.

  • The MG4 excite 51 has more upvotes than this deal yet we have ice luddites thinking this a “good deal” despite still putting thousands of dollars in petrol for the lifetime of this car. I thought this is bargain website to save more money.

The incoming Leapmotor C10 will trash this car in value and operating cost.
