This was pretty popular in the past and seems to be at an all time low.
Discussion on how it works: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/834671
Looks like heating up a spoon or using another heat source will also do the trick. This just provides convenience.

The BR 90 Insect Bite Healer is for Treating Insect Bites, Relieves Itching and Swelling, Without Chemicals

  • Relief of symptoms: thanks to the targeted heat effect of the ceramic heating plates, itching and swelling of the affected area are relieved and symptomatics are improved
  • Pleasant healing process: the heat development of the electric bite healing accelerates the healing of bites, the itching decreases and the healing process is often perceived as comfortable
  • 2 programmes: from two different programs, you can choose the right heat level for use in people with sensitive skin and for regular use in mosquito bites
  • No chemical substances: the use of the stitch healer works by means of heat and without chemical substances, the use of the chemical-free insect bite healer is also suitable for pregnant women
  • Use in the dark: thanks to the switchable light, the bite healer can also be used precisely in the dark, the compact design is ideal for outdoor trips such as camping or barbecuing

edit: for those who were skeptical like me. There is this study that suggests that concentrated heat does work to a degree: https://www.medicaljournalssweden.se/actadv/article/view/115… . I am still skeptical as I have not tried it yet!

I've always found this product works really well - https://www.amazon.com.au/Bite-Thing-Suction-Poison-Remover/…

Damn imagine using that outdoors people might think you are shooting drugs lol

      • might be useful as an…. "enlargement" device

        • No, thanks. I've seen the movie.

          https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113858/

@bio: I could be wrong but I am pretty sure he is not trying to enlarge the mosquito.

            • +3

@thispasito: I thought that, too, but nothing can help him if his fly is small enough to fit in a mosquito tool.

I have used this thing during our trip this time round. My personal experience can be best described as "doesn't really work effectively, but better than nothing"……

    • +4

My experience was the opposite, fwiw. Very skeptical, but it works amazingly for me - and I've grown increasingly sensitive to mozzie/midgy/sandfly bites over the last decade or so.

I won't repeat my entire prev comment.

      • I agree. I bought this - works great!

  • +1

    Sounds like voodoo.

    • Yea, I think most people would be skeptical but this study suggests that it has some efficacy: https://www.medicaljournalssweden.se/actadv/article/view/115…
You can always try using a heated spoon or hair dryer first. If it works then you can consider getting something like this next time. If not then you can save a few bucks.

      • +1

Hot, even warm water works wonders if you apply it in the first few minutes.

Could have used this over the weekend when I got 5 insect bites near my left elbow that were itchy as hell. I must have a tasty elbow.

I bought a cheap one off aliexpress which was a different brand and I was very impressed at how much it works. It hurts though approx 7 seconds though. There was a child (3 secs) vs adult setting (7 secs)

    • This is the same : one press 3s, two presses 6s.

    • Can you share a link or the brand of the cheaper version from Ali?

Tried these (not this brand). Junk.

  • I was sceptical at first but seems to work well for my partner and I. Took a while to convince her to use it as she has a low pain tolerance.

Few seconds of small pain beats trying to sleep with a bunch of mozzie bites on ya.

  • Bic lighter is cheaper and has worked flawlessly for decades.

    • N leaves a smile mark on your skin :)

      • Good old smileys.

Just use a vacuum to suck out the mozzie saliva

Agree, highly recommend the Ozito One Born Every Minute Wet and Dry for this particular use. Apparently health authorities haven't worked this simple solution out yet. Also - according to Amazon product description writers - handy for sucking snake bite and funnel web spider poison out of fang holes. Untested, but could be useful for blue ringed octopus bites if your extension lead is long enough to reach seaside rock pools. Small print: See your doctor urgently if any of this makes sense to you.
