Seems popular and I was looking at previous deals, saw this was back on sale and no one submitted it. Price hasn't changed much from the last promo in August though.

I got one of these about a month or so ago. I've got a small granny flat and I had been using a tp link wifi extender to get internet from the main house. With that device I got only just ok coverage and I had to reset it at least 3 or 4 times a week. It was a pain. With this it's been going rock solid for my use since I got it. Plus it's super simple to set up. Also I have a hard drive connected to it and I'm now able to stream all my movies to my apple tv as well as my meta quest. This device is awesome in my opinion.

Using this atm in the airport lounge, running from a powerbank.

    • can you setup a free wifi hotspot and steal peoples data? lol.

I have the cheaper model and have it set up to route all traffic to my home network when going on holidays, have the SSID (Wi-Fi network name) and password the same as at home and all of our devices just connect automagically. Provides peace of mind that the traffic is encrypted on unknown networks and handy to access content on the home server.

    i have one of these.
i run it from an inui powerbank, with adguard home, wifi repeater (off my mobile hotspot) and vpn client back to my vpn server at home; and; with a 1tb nvme via usb.
    BUT
the via-the-usb doesnt really work too well unless it's externally powered.

    so now i have

    beryl > powerbank for power
    beryl > wavlink usb-hub-with-nvme-card-reader-and-other-usbs > same-powerbank-for-power
it seems to be reliable now.

nb: this thing IS powerhungry ! relative to my old glinet ar750s

  • So this uses type c to power?

    • Yes

  • Got this from previous post and have been using it on my last trip.

Its so good and easy to use.

No more setting up each device in the family when we are going on a trip and quite good reception too.

  • Does this work on a cruise ship?

    • +1

Depends, theoretically yes though. I believe I recall getting it to work on a P&O ship, but not via the captive portal and instead cloning the mac address of my iPhone which i had purchased wifi access on.

      • Had to use the captive portal on P&O cruise a couple weekends ago with the old slate, MAC address clone wouldn’t work. We were using it for the chrome cast we took with us to stream on their basic TV.

    • FWIW if you don't go down the Beryl AX route, I connected to the internet (P&O Pacific Encounter) using a Pixel 7 and everyone else in the room hot spotted off my phone - worked really well.

      • Do you remember which Internet package you got and what kind of speeds you were getting?

  • using this on the sideline of sporting events
4g hotspot > beryl via wifi > Laptop for editing etc
Connect the camera via wifi to the beryl and upload via FTP to the laptop

Powerbank powered is awesome so can have my own little LAN

  • Had this one and the Slate AX too and have never been able to get the captive portal to work at a hotel or on a cruise ship etc, instead have needed to use the mac address cloning feature to get around it, but a bit annoying since it's advertised to be able to login to captive portals (the issue is I've just never had the portal pop up)

  • any thoughts on? vs GL.iNet GL-A1300 (Slate Plus)
