  • If you purchase via Velocity can you still get the stopover package with Qatar or is that only via Qatar website?

    • +8

No. It MUST be issued by Qatar Airways ticket stock. And has to be purchased through Qatar Airways' website on booking.

    • +1

There is no need to purchase on the VA website. Activate the offer then book on QR website on QR flight, put VA number in FF program and you can purchase a QR stopover package and you will receive double VA points.

      Here are the T&Cs.

*To be eligible for the bonus Velocity Points promotion, you must: (1) activate this offer through the activation link contained in this email between 12.01am AEST 9 October 2024 and 11.59pm AEST 20 October 2024 inclusive (Promotion Period); (2) book an Eligible Flight between 9 October 2024 and 20 October 2024; (3) travel on an Eligible Flight between 10 January 2025 and 31 March 2025 inclusive (the Travel Period); and (4) enter and have a valid Velocity membership number at time of booking and travel. An Eligible Flight is a flight operated by Qatar Airways and marketed by either Virgin Australia (VA) or Qatar Airways (QR), on all Qatar Airways operated flights globally, where Velocity Points can normally be earned except bookings made in Virgin Australia's booking class "U". Velocity Reward Seat bookings and Qatar Airways services marketed or operated by partner airlines other than Virgin Australia (VA) are ineligible. The bonus Velocity Points will be credited to the Velocity membership account entered at the time of travel and must be the passenger travelling on the Eligible Flight. The 100% bonus offer does not attract additional bonus Points as a result of the member’s tier. Bonus Velocity Points will be applied to the originally purchased fare class and any upgrades (example: from Economy to Business or First Class) will only attract bonus Velocity Points as originally booked and ticketed. Flights can be booked via the Virgin Australia website, the Qatar Airways website or your local travel agent. Bonus Velocity Points are awarded on a sector-by-sector basis. You should allow up to 4 weeks after the travel period for the bonus Velocity Points to be credited.

Virgin have outsourced most of their flying. 737s don't go far

    • +3

Well we know what happened with V Australia, trying to run another seperate company for international flights is just unsustainable in the long term.

Wet leasing 777s from Qatar Airways to operate from Australia to Doha and hopefully destinations into North America and Asia down the line is going to be VAs best bet. It also expands the wings of Qatar Airways as the service and seats (potentially Qsuite or the old Virgin Australia 777s) will be flying out of Australia.

Could be interesting to see how we might see QR branded lounges in Australia coming soon in places like Melbourne where theres no real decent OWS/J lounge.

777 ops at VA were actually pretty successful/made money.

It was the costs of the 330/ATR/EMB fleet that was their downfall. Ansett vibes with so many different aircraft types

        • After some time the 777s indeed became pretty profitable under the VA AOC right up till the end, the 332s were operating into places with f-all demand and if redirected to other routes, I believe, would have been better.

  • Will we see more Q-Suites award seats I wonder 🤔

    • +4

Probably not, QR recently-ish splitted their award program.
Normal award availability which is where partners like VA, BA ect can see were severely reduced. In favour for new "Q2" Flexi award seats (double the cost) when booking through Qatars website, which British Airways Avios, Madrid Avios and Finnair Avios can all be converted to.

You can see some QR availability at the back of the calendar however due to the significant gap between when VA opens their calendar (330) versus other partners (355-360), they can snag seats first so you are really getting the last seats in the pile.

Qantas shitting themselves , first using all their political influences to block Qatar from getting their aussie aviation license and now let the price war begin for international fares

      • I think that political influence has run out of puff now. The backlash when Qantas talked the government into blocking additional flights didn't make any of them look good and certainly didn't help consumers.
The Qatar/Virgin deal is as good as done, just the final bits of red tape and away we go!

Cant wait for the price war now
