The absolute goat.
I have had these for 5 years and they've never skipped a beat. I'd buy another pair at this price if I had more money lol

Courtesy reminder that you can get the HD 6XX which is based on HD 650 from Drop for $179 USD + shipping.

Also in before the comments about needing amp/DAC combo to get most out of headphones.

I've been rocking my HD 6XX + schiit modi magni combo 4~ years and absolutely love em.

      100%
I've got the O2/Odac combo which is pretty outdated now but still sounds good for me. Modi magni is classic too 👌

      • How's the sound signature of these? I'm just using Senn Amperior, pretty much HD25, but thinking of getting this or the HE400.

        • +1

Super neutral, like a monitor, a little drop off in the low base frequencies if you don't have an amp. With an amp, it's heaven, like the headphones disappear.
I love them so much, I can clearly tell between flac and 320kbs mp3 for example.
Still use Bluetooth earbuds for convenience often, cooking etc. but when I want to listen to music I reach for these.
I don't know anything about the HE400s, sorry

  • HD 600 hundo's. - Prefer these if you can handle a bit more high-end to the HD650's (I have both).

  • This vs Hifiman Edition XS for $449?

    • +1

Edition XS uses different driver technology (planar magnetic). From my very short experience trying both of them, I found XS have cleaner and more thumpy bass, but suffers from an artificial sounding highs.

HD 600, on the other hand, sounds very balanced, as pointed out by every other users. You cannot really fault it. TBH it sounds boring to me because I like V-shapes more. If you know your way around EQing, HD 600 is probably a safer pick. Be mindful though that $365 is not ATL.

But for $449, XS is a steal and deserves a separate post.

The Sennheisers should last a lot longer than anything made by Hifiman too

        • This. I had both, sold the XS and kept the hd600. Preferred the balanced and more neutral sound of the HD600 and they are built better. If your after thumping bass look elsewhere. For vocals, jazz, folk nothing comes close to the HD600 in this price range. Maybe the HD650 if you prefer a bit of warmth. Or the HD6xx which I think are the same. Resale on the HD600 is better as well. Classic headphones and there's a reason why they've been around for such a long time.

  • the good old Huh Duh Six Hundeos

  • Are these good for FPS games like Valorant or CS2 where there's lots of directional audio.

    • +1

      I've heard no.
Like, they'll work fine, but if that's your priority then I believe there are many other options that will do better for the same price, or do the same for cheaper.
