I have this. It's good and is the best bang for buck SV machine you can get.

  • Good price. I have a generic SousVide stick I got on eBay over 10 years ago for 90 bucks that is still going strong but no wifi or app control. Will be able to use them at same time for different temps or to maintain temps for larger volumes of water.

To be honest I don't use the app anymore. Once you use it a few times for different things it's easy to remember what setting are needed.

      • Do you need the app to set start times? Or can everything be done from the device?

        • +1

Everything can be done from the device. The app and wifi connectivity is if you want to start it while you are away.

          • @SmokeyTheCorgi: Yeah starting while I am away is primarily why I am after a wifi enabled one.

        • All on the device mate.
App just makes it easier as it has a few presets etc.

          • @bbourizk: Sweet, I don't really need presets but will be nice to have it start up while I am at work.

Just posting to say I have this and I love it!

  • Dang, bought one last week for $90, should have waited

    • Where from? You can try returning and get it from Amazon.

      • Got it off ebay, too much effort so can't be bothered

Haha ‘69’ I know a few cold blooded witches who need to be warmed up with one of these up there ‘69’, hehe.

  • What sort of workflow do you use when using this? If I want to cook, say, chicken, is it a case of:

    • Put chicken in bag, submerged in tub of cold water
    • Start heater
    • When heater reaches temperature, wait X minutes for it to be cooked properly
    • Take chicken out, sear and eat
      ?

Also, could you do a roast lamb with this?

  • +1

Water up to temp. meat in sealed bag into the water for the required time, often a fair bit of leeway on time. Out of the water out of the bag and finish off as required. Not sure on the lamb but I have done a brisket with a 48 hour cook time and it was perfect.

    • Thank you! So is the required time something you can determine, based on weight of meat?

      • +1

the app will give you persets youn can use.
For example when cooking a chicken breast, i put the setting at 65c for an hour and thirty minutes. you will ge the juiciest and most tender chicken.
Finish off in a pan with some butter and your set.
Also you can reheat the same chicken the next day, usually for 30 minutes at 60c

Steak is amazing in it as well. If you want medium rare then you cook it att 55c for an hour and a half to 2 hours, depemsing on thickness.

plnety of youtube videos to check out as well.
