Description

America in the 19th century: You are a rancher and repeatedly herd your cattle from Texas to Kansas City, where you send them off by train. This earns you money and victory points. Needless to say, each time you arrive in Kansas City, you want to have your most valuable cattle in tow. However, the "Great Western Trail" not only requires that you keep your herd in good shape, but also that you wisely use the various buildings along the trail. Also, it might be a good idea to hire capable staff: cowboys to improve your herd, craftsmen to build your very own buildings, or engineers for the important railroad line.

If you cleverly manage your herd and navigate the opportunities and pitfalls of Great Western Trail, you surely will gain the most victory points and win the game.

The second edition of Great Western Trail includes solitaire rules, making for a player count of 1-4.

Second Edition:
Remember the old days in the West? Well, the times they are a-changing’! From new solo opponent to incredible landscapes, you won't know where to start. And there is a new herd of cows for you to sell!

Great Western Trail is the critically acclaimed game of cattle ranching by Alexander Pfister. Players attempt to wrangle their herd across the Midwest prairie and deliver it to Kansas City. But beware! Other cowboys are sharing the trail with you. We invite you to saddle up!

The changes in the Second edition:

Brand New Artwork by Chris Quilliams
Solo Mode: A New Challenger in the West
Dual-Layered Player Boards
Addition of a new breed of cows: The Simmental breed

  • Quite a few decent discounts on Amazon right now. I also bought My City Roll & Build Card Game for $21.56

    • Can you share anything else you found? I find it hard looking through Amazon's system.

      • What kind of games are you after? There are some OK discounts on games by Stonemaier Games. Apiary @ $83.25 looks like it's at it's ATL. It is a little bit of a slog going through Amazon. You kind of just need to go through the list slowly.

Sprawlopolis for $19.99 isn't bad either especially if you can't go and pick it up from a local for free.

        • Thanks for the suggestions. Apiary looks interesting!

I'll try and go through the list at some point today!

        • might be worth considering getting apiary direct from Stonemeier:
          https://aus.stonemaiergames.com/collections/special-offers/p…

Though, probably only if you're buying something else at the same time. Their membership is $20 (lasts for a year) and gives free delivery, and an extra 20% discount. Think it comes out to $91 ish for just apairy, so not as good, but if you add more games it will be better. like the new expansion!

        • +1

also, boardgame oracle has a dedicated page for prime deals, which you can sort by discount %, which I find helpful to find the best savings. sometimes discount amount might be better. And it's far better for browsing games imo

  • Great Western Trail: New Zealand is also discounted (from $130 down to $80.70).

I haven't played any edition. I've seen that Argentina has been the cheapest of the lot, but is currently sold out. And while NZ is more expensive, I'm drawn to it more from reviews (and imagery).

    • It’s because of the deal yesterday.
      It was about $37 something.

  • +1

It's only 63.95 from Amazon AU.
3.95 would be insurance for it coming to you in one piece. Amazon packaging is pretty bad for board games.

    • I haven't had too many issues but understand some people have had some problems.

    • I did this,
Delivery date via UK, like November 18th.
Delivery date via AU, this Thursday
