https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005871385412.html - need to add another $1.5 item to get free shipping

  • I got one for a total of $9.75 AUD shipped. New user discount. Thanks!

    • what details do you need to change to get new user discount? I got flagged as not being a "new user"
edit: Changing address seemed to do the trick.

might want to factor in the cost of moving, stamp duty on new house purchase, etc

Luckily I already own several properties. I can just force my tenants to hold my mail as per the terms of the rental agreement.

          • @ad62623: Behold the god tier of Ozbargainers. Buys multiple properties and forces tenants to hold his mail to take advantage of new user discounts. Bravo, my liege.

        • Lol 🤣

Keep in mind AC current via clamp only, No DC via clamp.

Oh darn. That's annoying. Does that mean it's useless for all 12v stuff?

Sadly yes. I bought a couple of cheapies years ago before i realised my mistake. Ended up buying a quality fluke 301 for around $100 and never been happier. Great if you are into 4wd accessories, solar when camping and getting to know what power fidges, lights etc are consuming.

Is that linked Fluke likely to be legit though? The eBay seller name and $100 for a Fluke strongly suggests that’s not likely to be a genuine Fluke. They usually go for many fold higher than that.

@djz: You're right. I checked mine and it is the 362 which now sells for a fair bit more . I was in bit of a hurry when i sent the link.
The other suggestions here sound good. A dc clamp meter is a great bit of kit to have.
Tool pro do one at supercheap that reviews well. $70 or $55 on a 20 % off sale

Second that… I ended up going for a Kaiweets for around $70 to check solar panel performance.

A couple of good youtube clips showing the accuracy is excellent, well beyond is price.

ANENG ST212 - i bought this model for DC clamp and it works well.

You can get a DC fork, which works on hall effect sensors

  • Yes, important to note the AC-only ones make up all the super-cheap varieties, they won't help you with vehicle or solar trouble shooting. I have a decent DC clamp from aliexpress for $45 with welcome discount ($54 without) : "HT208D Amp Meter Clamp AC/DC,1000A True RMS Multimeter Tester, 6000 Counts, with Temperature, NCV, LPF, Voltage and Current Test" https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006860049500.html?spm=a2g…

  • This model appears to have AC and DC current via clamp, US$18.20 plus tax.

  • pay a bit more and get one that can do DC clamp - https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005874250341.html?spm=a2g…
