Be careful Bunnings uses Aus Post to deliver - Aus Post rarely delivers large objects

Ergo - you will be spending a lunch break picking this up from your local post office

    • Yep. Like my dog food that never makes it to the front door.

Aus Post rarely delivers large objects

Your local AusPost person must be lazy. Mine reverses right up to my door and drop off large stuff. Straight out of the Van into the Garage or House.

    • +1

It's not shipped via AusPost. On the item listing it says: "Items sold and delivered by VoltX. This item is not available in-store or for click & collect." Looking at VoltX Shipping Policy at https://www.bunnings.com.au/VoltX_s2483, it states: "we are unable to ship to PO Box or Parcel Locker addresses" and "You can track each item's progress on the courier's website." In my experience, that can mean they deliver to your door, or alternately you're stuck picking up from the courier's depot.

      • I note that @kizzy said below that they got it via Auspost, and technically Auspost operates a courier service StarTrack so it could be shipped by Auspost notwithstanding the info about VoltX.

      • +7

I don't believe it means it will be delivered by VoltX as a company, it usually means that it is a marketplace item (not a Bunnings stocked product), and once the purchase is made on the Bunnings website, all the other details including the organisation of delivery will be handled by VoltX.

So if VoltX use AusPost as their delivery service and as others have mentioned you have a lazy Postie, you'll likely have to personally pick it up from your local post office.

        • I don't believe it means it will be delivered by VoltX as a company

          Nobody is saying that

So if VoltX use AusPost as their delivery service

VoltX are saying that they don't

at VoltX Shipping Policy at https://www.bunnings.com.au/VoltX_s2483, it states: "we are unable to ship to PO Box or Parcel Locker addresses"

If they can't deliver to PO Box or Parcel locker it means they would be using a courier (or they just say that in case they use a courier)

Hard sell when it was in the realm of $187 under the previous woolies deal.

  • +4

I got 2 of these during the previous deal. Auspost delivered them to the door (for once), and the batteries seem to be decent. I tested the capacity using a victon smart shunt and came out to 200ah exactly between the two.

  • I love how thin these are.

    • It's the width that counts, so I'm told

      • That's what she said

  • can it be used in my uninterruptible power supply, instead of the lead acid batter?
    It looks too big?

    • If it's an off the shelf UPS then no because the charging profile is different for Lifepo4.

  • Is this suitable to use as a car battery?

    • +2

Nope. The engine bay is not a place for a lithium battery.
And im not aure whay the CCA is on these but its not built for atarting cars.

      • And im not aure whay the CCA is on these but its not built for atarting cars.

You could still use it to start a car if you needed a jump start

        • It would likely trigger the BMS over current protection, so might not work at all.
More depends how quick the protection kicks in and the FETs current handling capability.

    • no

  • Good price. These were going for $449 at Aldi earlier this year.

  • How is this battery different to my existing 100Ah deep cycle battery in my camper trailer?
    Sorry for my obvious ignorance..

    • +5

It weighs much less and you can safely discharge it below 50% without reducing its lifespan.

      • So weight & longevity. Good stuff thanks.

Assume there’s no issues with charging these via solar panel or anything?
What about charging at home? Does it need a specific charger?

        • +1

You need a solar charge converter that is capable of charging this battery chemistry. Again, you need a charger that will deal with the correct voltage in order to the batteries that are connected to the bms.

        • +2

You need to make sure your DC-DC charger is comparable with LiFiPO4 batteries.

Got one last deal. Perfect for the camping trip we did last week. Also got a Gentrax 100ah one as similar specs. Should've bought 2 of these last deal but wasn't sure if kids liked camping. Since got 2x250w solar panels for home ( using 2x 100w solar blankets for camping trips) and victron 100/30 using it for a small fridge running 24/7. (I know it says 440w on mppt but slight shade so won't hit that high. Just on side of the house, enough to top it up during the day). Got 1200w pure sine inverter also hooked up to it. Looking forward to our next glamping trip. Got the solar panels for $35 at the tip.

    • "Got the solar panels for $35 at the tip."

What ? Is this a thing ? Is it a random thing, or do they regularly sell off stuff at the tip ?

      • +1

Usually they have a "recycle store" (WA) at the tip and in there can find the most random things. And there was probably 20 panels outside. So got 2.

      • Here in QLD as well, the local "recycle store" or we just call it the tip shop, occasionally stocks old solar panels. I've bought heaps and use them on the camping trailer. They get sad after quite a bit of rough road use but then I just replace it with another one.

  • +1

I haven't checked with an amp meter or anything serious, but I got this battery in the last deal and I hooked it up with my new renogy 2000W pure sine wave inverter and I was surprised that this little unit could:

    • Power a 2000W heater on max settings
    • Power an induction cooker on high setting (way higher that what we usually cook with).

Very impressed with it and maybe I'm an outlier but 100A max discharge - I thought the BMS would trip and cut off the battery but it held (might need to test longer…)

Anyway, total newbie with this stuff

  • This deal or the Kings 12V 100Ah Deep Cycle Lithium LiFePO4 Battery ? Looking to upgrade my 12V System in my 4WD which is using 2 x 100Ah AGM batteries, it works well and happy with it, but I know Lithium would be better.

VoltX is 3 years vs 2 years on the Kings for Warranty.

    • +1

I replaced a deep cycle slab with a Kings 100Ah about a year ago to power a fishing kayak trolling motor. No complaints. Capacity seems accurate. Lighter weight helps the kayak move quicker in the water too. Up to you, but I'd keep your AGMs until they fail.

    • my 12V System in my 4WD which is using 2 x 100Ah AGM batteries, it works well and happy with it

If you're happy with it then why replace AGM batteries before they fail? It's good for your wallet and good for the environment.
