          • @RNDM: Dang mine’s still up in the air then i guess. Congrats to u tho!

    • I ordered the same one and got the confirmation email in the morning for $1297— pickup on Tuesday.

  • Just got a ready for pickup SMS for the 14 inch! Sadly, I wanted the 16 inch but none available in WA…

    • Me too in Melb! 14” still a good deal tho so can’t complain.

      • what memory size?

    • Sadly, I wanted the 16 inch but none available in WA…

      That's what she said.

I chose the delivery option (In Mel) yesterday when this got posted and I have just received the laptop.

    • wow 32g / 1tb for 1297?

      • Yep

Just picked mine up in-hand!!! What a steal

    • That's the way! None around me for hundreds of kilometres so I ordered it in for click and collect. Hopefully it pulls through.

  • An update:
    Picked up Snapdragon model
Intel 14 inch got cancelled by officeworks
AMD 16 inch one still not cancelled yet? Delayed until late October

    • Mine got delayed to 21 Oct but received an email saying they can’t source more stock. My order status now shows cancelled.

      • 16 inch model not cancelled yet

  • Just got an email saying they can’t source more stock and have cancelled my order. :(

    • Well that sucks, mine says collection on the 8th and my other order hasn't specified anything…

      • Good luck to you mate hope you get it

    • -2

My order for the 14" just cancelled. Do you think if I complain I'll get a voucher? I would with Amazon but doubt OW is as generous

  • +1

    Another update:
16 inch eta changed to 8th October, maybe they’re just clearing out all the stock for a loss and cancelling orders that exceed current stock?

    • Can i ask how soon after listing went up did you order?

  • +3

I called the 1300 number today and was told that there is a shipment 50 coming in via backorder. There is no estimated arrival date but likely within the next 1-3 weeks. I guess keep waiting and hope for the best

    • Did the rep allow you to place a back order? When I called this morning, the lady said the system wouldn’t allow her.

      • I believe they are all sold. I called for an update about my order which is confirmed but the estimated delivery date kept changing. The lady told me it is part of the backorder shipment with no eta on the system but should be arriving sometime this month.

        • Damn I missed out. I couldn’t get past the payment section on Thursday - it kept telling me try a different payment method. Gave up.

      • I think even if you could back order you wouldn’t get the 1297 price

  • My 1 week time frame ETA postpones by 1 day each day. I would think if they were going to cancel it they would have done so by now? It's been a week.

    • I've experience the same thing, I called up today and was told they were getting a shipment of 19 that should be arriving Friday next week, hopefully our orders are part of that 19

    • Same thing with me too, it keeps estimating the next day. I gave them a call and they said it should be coming end of next week with no mention of how many in the shipment. Hopefully its not just a delay until we give up and refund thing.

      • We can only hope, they did tell me its 19 laptops arriving next week which doesn't seem much

        • I mean 19 is a fair bit and I'm sure probably ~50 people probably ordered, some picked up alr and rest received cancellations. So 19 can fulfill the rest of people, well i hope haha

        • Just picked mine up today!

          • @Minari243: Did you get an update in tracking before your order was ready to collect?

            • @Mario42: It updated to ‘your order is on its way to the store’ the morning before. Then i got the invoice last night and ready collect this morning. Tracking seemed to get stuck on estimating collection on Wednesday even though its Thursday.

              • @Minari243: Ahh damn mines still just at the order confirmed stage, so tomorrow's not happening then

    • My date hasnt changed at all since ordering. However mine said 14th frome the second i ordered it. Im in Tassie.

      • +1

My date changed to pickup today, will post how it goes although my other order hasnt been processed yet.

        • Awesome!
Mine is still stuck. I've given up hope
          All the best for yours!

        • Nice!… yesterday came and went for me without a peep. Like AtomuKirin I'll just wait and see.

    • I'd say shipment will come in next week

  • I didn't have the dosh for this one, hoping to see some people got the laptop in the end.

Just picked up mine this morning via click and collect.

    • +1

      Congrats!

      • +1

So there is still hope, congrats

        • Yep hang in there! Got the invoice/shipped notification early in the morning and it was ready to collect a few hrs later. Well worth the wait.

          • @AryaTheExplorer: Before your pickup did u also have the daily ETA postponing by 1 day each time or was yours initially due for today

            • @Mario42: Postponed 1 day each time. I was told that the ETA day is just system generated and it's pretty much meaningless since they don't know when the backorder stock is coming in.

    • +1

congrats! what state if you dont mind me asking?

      • +1

        I'm in Victoria (Western Melbourne)

    • +2

I gotcha buddy… I've crossed everything for you too. Mine was showing enroute to the store until they sent me the message that it was in store to collect. Seems to have come from Synnex in Sydney to Officeworks Distribution in Melbourne, then down to Hobart.

    • picked up this arvo!

      • You little ripper!

  • +2

Uhhh just an update, they cancelled an order of mine but they gave me a call to say that they can honor the price by reordering over the phone. They have plenty in the warehouse.

    • I called them about ETA of my order this morning. The staff said the batch will arrive at the warehouse tomorrow and I should receive mine next week.

      • Called about my order. No ETA.

        • Seems the stock is arrived at the warehouse today. My order status changed to shipped.

And one has made its way onto eBay for $3,000

    Anyone have a receipt?

  • Finally
Got the on the way to store notification

  • So I ended up getting a refund after the original and the replacement laptops both had issues. The first one had a clicky fan and was sometimes think it was in tablet mode (possible broken hinge sensor) and the second one had constant issues connecting to my dell 4k monitor and a screen flicker. After trying many fixes for the hdmi issue over the week, I suspect it's a software issue and there is no potential fix until asus release an update.
Great laptop and ran quiet and cool for office tasks and plenty of power for most things up to playing demanding games, sadly the software support isn't quite there yet for my needs.
I did consider getting a third but I didn't have heart since my original return was still sitting in the back and all the tech guys knew me by name cus I was there so often lol

    • +1

WTF. Can't imagine ASUS will have this issue on their top range laptop. Just received mine this morning. Not sure if I should return it.

      • Keep and resell it if you don't like it lol, I'm sure there are plenty of people that are keen to take it off you for a bit more.

    • +1

Did you try thunderbolt to HDMI or just thunderbolt to thunderbolt it normally works a lot better than HDMI to HDMI on both my msi and Dell.

      • I only tried HDMI to HDMI, it always refuse to wake up after hibernation to monitor and 50% of the time when waking from sleep. I feel it's drivers as many complaints of similar things on other models were fixed with either bios or GPU update.
I did consider to get a hub and try 4k120 over USBC but the screen flicker started before I had the chance.

        • +1

Mine works fine with every monitor I've tried. Dell 4K 120, Dell 4K 60, Lenovo 4K 60. All worked perfectly over HDMI direct. Had an issue with a no brand USB-C - HDMI adapter with the Lenovo while running and the Dell as a 3rd monitor. Swapped the two and both fine (so screen on and 2 x 4K 60 monitors - onc HDMI and one USB-C HDMI).

Actually getting more impressed with it. It still runs hot (60 - 80C, fan on) under light to mid workloads connected to the charger, but it's on a laptop stand so doesn't matter.

          • @gravelc: besides the issues it's a great laptop, I tried my hardest to try to keep mine but yeah it was definitely hardware issues on both of my units. About the HDMI issue, I wasn’t sure if it was software, hardware, or just something specific to my unit. Tried swapping out a few cables and even hooked up a different monitor same problem. I noticed that if I do the sequence of put it into hibernation with the power and HDMI plugged in, then unplug the power, plug it back in, and wake the laptop, it would consistently causes both displays to go blank.

    • Which model did you get?

  • Picked mine up. Nice for the price. Would not pay the RRP. Mouse-pad feels cheep. Fans always running when on mains power - they're fairly quite though. Some issues with Windows updates - that's likely not on ASUS though.

    • Are the fans on when plugged in due to the performance profile being different when plugged in? If you dont need the performance boost (which looks only small on reviews) you could drop this back to a lower wattage.

      • No - standard profile. In the office they're fine when on due to the ambient noise. They are calmer now as I guess all the drive indexing has been done.

  • Got the laptop, all seems good so far and laptop is silent during normal tasks. My only issue so far is if I'm using laptop on my lap it gets hot quick even with just some web browsing

  • i got the laptop back 3 weeks ago now and having issues with the trackpad and hibernation
    1. trackpad doesn't click or clicks markedly less when resting hand on the left hand palm rest area which is extremely annoying but possibly just a design quirk dt being so thin?
    2. about 1 out of 5 times when closing the lid then opening the lid after a long time e.g. overnight, screen will be blank and needs a hard reset by holding power button.

haven't used a windows laptop for a while so i wonder if particularly the hibernation issue is gonna be a thing for all windows laptops… 10 yr old macbook pro didn't have any issues until it suddenly died.
any thoughts? anyone else having similar issues?
have to admit i doubt i would ever get such an expensive laptop without getting this deal… so dunno whether this is just par for the course for windows laptops

    • +1

      That's definitely not normal.

I used the Asus 16" Zenbook S every day for a month or so while writing a review for APC magazine. Great laptop IMO and I was very sad to have missed this deal, as I would have bought one.

I didn't encounter any of the issues you mention. I may not have clicked with my hands in the same position as you did though. The hibernation issue is something that I encountered before with a Windows laptop but it may not have had the same underlying cause. In my case it was a driver issue around hibernation (and later fixed) so considering it's a new CPU, I would not be surprised if that is the case here.

You could try disabling hibernate mode. Asus has a walkthrough. Sleep should still work fine, but it will avoid problems with waking up from hibernate mode. The only downside is that sleep uses slightly more power than hibernate, but if using the laptop daily (or every few days) you won't notice any difference.

      • thanks i have disabled hibernate. hopefully it gets fixed one day
also as an update i went back to store and tried their display model of this computer. touchpad issue is the same. it must be a design thing with it being particularly thin and the chassis too bendy. Interestingly the only other computer in store with a similar issue is the zenbook 14…

The laptops I returned had hibernation issues with external monitor but funnily enough the asus Zephyrus laptop I had 2 years ago had this exact issue you are describing. Looked everywhere and tried a bunch of things and figured was a software thing and could only be fixed with an update/bug fix from Asus. I heard it was fixed later on with an update and that took ages and well after I returned the laptop.
Disabling hibernation is definitely the way to go, there's a setting in my Asus app as well that you need to turn off in addition to the windows setting.

      • interesting thanks
