watch out of vanvautu- the interisland flights are all cancelled..air vanuvatu in liquidation i believe

    • +1

I believe they're now operating some flights. Like Rex, they have to keep them going.

      • Sounds risky. I wouldn’t go near that one.

    • +1

Iririki is accessed by boat from Port Vila. Both Qantas and virgin are flying to Port Vila now. Qantas took over that route from the national carrier and virgin was doing this route prior.

Sort of forgot that Daydream Island even exists.

    • +1

Pretty sure it was run down for a while. Only recently has been tidied up.

      • TripAdvisor reviews still seem to suggest it's a bit grim. Nightmare Island..

        • Maybe it hasn't been tidied up then.

        • daymares island

Hamo is better. There is nothing to do on Daydream.

      Great for honeymoon I guess.

      • +1

Yeah not if you're married for a while

    • +1

      Must’ve been daydreamin.

Is Aldi Holidays new? I picture a special buys isle in the foyers of all their hotels for some reason:).

    • +22

On ALDI holidays the pressure to check out in under 15 seconds is immense.

    • +4

Just need to watch out for the long check in queue on a Saturday morning

  • +5

Aldi keeping with the pack your own bags theme

  • +8

Misleading title, these prices are actually per person.

  • +17

Aldi good different. We are closing register 3 ,we opening register 3 ,

Better off booking direct i rekon.. aldi holidays are backended by flight centre and ignite travel which means 2 3rd party sites… no thanks

    • +4

Aldi Holidays - where nothing can possibli go wrong

    • +2

They'll probably be … just OK. But you'll have to go to Coles or Woolies to get the flights.

  • +2

Need to add some 'per person' to some of those prices.

Will not go back to Novotel Surfers…never! Everything about it is bad.

    • Stayed there for a work conference event… 100% agree the bed is shagged. I have never felt a bed dipped so hard

    • +1

I've stayed in 3 Novotels in Sydney and HK and honestly all have been terrible..you're better off in Ibis

      • +1

Not all Novotel hotels are the same, typing this in my room at the Novotel Shenzhen and it’s great, good soundproof rooms, aircon that works and softish beds in a land of hard beds. Glen Waverley is a good option for Melbourne but agree I’d pass on the Gold Coast one, she was tired before she became a Novotel from a grand chancellor in 2016, open in 1985

Today I learned that Aldi also do Holidays

    • +2

Yesterday I learnt they do insurance now.

  • The price comes out similar to jet star for day dream island, and they do 6 nights instead of 5.

China tour is from $1,299 ex Brisbane. There’s a similar deal here (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866280) which is cheaper for ex Sydney and Melbourne. There’s some good discussion in that deal around the activities, some of which are shopping experiences where there is pressure to buy overpriced items. Still could be a good way to see a bit of China relatively cheaply but best to go in with your eyes open and knowing what to expect.

    • The aldi tour includes the visit to XiAn. The other tour is an extra. I think this is a good value. All under$1000 tour exclude Xian except this one.

  • +5

If I am not completely satisfied with the holiday, can I get a refund within 60 days? 🙂

    • +1

Yes and you will also get a years worth of groceries for free.

    • +1

Yeah, but you'll have to pack your bags into the underbody of the plane yourself.

  • +3

Daydream Island: $899 for 5 days vs China $999 for 10 days. I've been to that China trip and it's pretty good. Really hard to justify the other prices.

    • +2

Especially now with 15 day visa free. Previously the visa would cost a decent amount already

  • +7

Ignite travel, who Aldi have partnered with, have awful reviews.

  • +9

Having previously worked at Daydream Island - Owned by CCIG (Chinese Corp Investment Group) - I can tell you it isn't worth the potential exposure to Toxic Black Mould in the rooms where the roofs have caved in from the density of the mould.

They don't feed or house their staff properly or even serve them in-date food, it is, a horror show.

(Side note - I would go back for a day-visit, to see the Living Reef and the massive impact of cyclone that wiped out any sand from the beaches and replaced with white bleached coral.)

  • So do they book you a flight from wherever you live in Australia?

  • Do I find these deals in the middle aisle?

  • Aldi does holiday package… That's interesting lol

  • +2

For the 10-day trip to China, they mentioned "Tipping in China is a firm and customary element of the tourism industry and is therefore strongly recommended." This is just bu!!sh!t.

    • +1

Agree 100% I was in Guangzhou at a BBQ place and one of our group asked for 2 beers. It was 8Y and he handed over 10Y and waved to the guy to keep the change, but the guy would not accept the tip. He scrimmaged around and brought back two 1Y notes.
But tipping the tour guides is a very good idea, they work pretty hard and make the trip a lot easier for you
