    Metal-organic Chemical Vapor Deposition

    • +2

      Mmmmm chemical deposition.

    • Elaborate?

  • +5

I wish they would show pics of the back of the device where the AC cable connects. Is it just a fig-8 detachable cable or is it hardwired ?

  • +21

You’ll need 3 phase for some of these chargers soon

    • +6

That would be nice I could charge my car with one of those. Come on EU push EVs to usb c too

      • usb c too

        We're already up to USB-C 2.2 :P

        • +1

yeah, we all have that colleague.

  • +2

The back of the box, which isn't shown in any photos, must surely contain a fan.

Even the manufacturers of GAN power components don't claim efficiency higher than 96.5%: https://www.ti.com/technologies/gallium-nitride.html

So if this unit achieves that same level of efficiency, at 200W output the unit must be generating 7.25W of heat. Think of how hot a 10W LED light bulb gets, this unit will be the same sort of temperature unless it has a fan.

    • Look at how big and heavy these higher powered chargers are. This one is 563g. They all have heavy as heat sinks inside.

      • A heatsink only puts the heat into the air. If the heatsink is inside a box, a fan is needed to move the warmed air out, and replace it with fresh (cooler) air.

        • +3

Not really, heat sink expands the surface area where natural convection takes place. It then transfer the heat to the case and out.

Depend on the design, you don't need forced convection to maintain the operating temperature.

          • -1

@dyziplen: If the case is transferring the heat out, then your heat-generating parts should be bolted directly to the case. Your parts run cooler, achieving longer life, and your unit is lighter and cheaper because you don't need the internal heatsinks.

And you'll still be radiating 7.25W of heat from the surface of the case, so the case will still get very hot.

Source: I've been designing electronics for a living for 30+ years.

          • @dyziplen:

The exterior casing is plastic with a metallic coating. It is safe and reliable for use.

for this particular charger I'm not sure how effective a plastic casing would be

  • Will this do Samsung Superfast Charge 2.0?

    • +4

Issue with Anker Chargers is that they never publish their supported protocols but this should support Samsung SFC 2.0.

EDIT: Supports PPS 11V5A, so should do Samsung SFC 2.0.

It triggers the super fast charge mode on my s24 ultra

Own it. Purchased for approx. the same price during the last prime day. Have it at work to charge all our work devices and phones. It's amazing. Highly rated. Fantastic price as well.

So that's what they do with all the lightning cables that people are no longer buying

  • Cancelled the UGREEN 200W charger from Amazon before purchasing this. Hopefully made the right choice :)

For those interested, you can have a look..

Got this last week and liking it so far, nice sturdy build

  • Pairing it with the following cables, again.. trusting the amazon choice

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08J2HXYPH/ref=ppx_yo_d…

  • A-tick?

  • 100W max, so still won't supply power at full speed to the bigger MacBook Pro.

    • fake watts! not surprising though from big charge.

      • 2x100 = 200 but I still like your joke

        • yeah it was just a joke. but at the same time, if claiming to be 200w I kind of expect powerbanks/chargers to be able to do 200w even if just when using 1 port.

anker is definitely more reliable than the satechi deal or ugreen though. if you read up on the negative reviews on amazon.com for ugreen 4 port+ chargers plenty mention the ports fail one by one until you are left with only 1 or 2 working, and the charger kills lightning cables.

  • Says "Coming Soon"?

      • +1

That appears to be a different product which also says "coming soon"?

        • In stock now

      • I have the link. It just shows up as "Coming Soon" for me.

        • How strange, I purchased it earlier.. thought someone was looking for the 250W version so posted a new link. Wondered if it sold out?

          • +1

@Redcoal: Yeah I think it sold out, I bought one just over an hour ago, I tried to pay via credit card and they cancelled it instantly, seemed to work when I paid via Paypal. The link you posted in reply worked at first but now it redirects the the 250W version.

Decent price with 140W output! Not familiar with the brand, Anker is still a lot of people's preferred choice.

    • +2

oo I like how I gives you the volts+amps for all outlets, very handy for making sure devices/cables are behaving as expected

    • +1

i got same one off aliexpress for around 70$ its really good, it has a 140w usb c pd 3.1 port. good for charging and running a soldering iron off. supports all the samsung protocols so you get sfc 2.0.

      • Omg you're a legend. I didn’t think to look aliexpress for that model 260w charger station.

Yeah i see it on Ali for $69 bucks.

  • Is it true that Magsafe on Macbook Pro won't work with this charger?

  • +1

Grabbed one, cheers OP. Looks like a sweet charger to travel with.

  • Ordered on 02Oct, order accepted on 02Oct, order cancelled on 03Oct (about 30 hours later). If they don't have stock, why accept the order? A bit poor.
