Can no longer Apply Amazon Gift Card Balance to Existing Order?

Is it just my account, or can one no longer apply their gift card balance to an order that hasn't been shipped/dispatched yet?

Makes delaying payment somewhat more costly :(

  • Yes, I was trying to do this a few days ago to a S+S, & the option to use GC balance was gone. (I could previously)
Glad to know it's not just me, but it's not a good change by Amazon…

    • i've just been able to have live chat do it for me, but obviously don't want to ask them for every order…

  • +2

I don't understand. What is the advantage of doing this?

    • delaying payment

OzBargainer Pro-Tip: if you buy now and think later, then choose a zero balance card as your payment method - after payment is declined, Amazon give seven days to provide valid details before cancelling an order

    • For preorders, Amazon doesn't charge a card until it's ready to ship, whereas if you choose gift card balance, it will immediately deduct the amount from your gift card balance. By choosing to pay by card initially, you can freely spend your GC balance on things that will ship now rather than have they tied to preorders that are shipping months from now, then apply your GC balance closer to release.

I noticed this last week when I went to apply my GC balance to a preorder that was releasing later in the week. I thought it was just cos it was too close to release. I ended up cancelling my preorder and doing it again with the GC. This is a bit of an inconvenience if they've removed the option to apply GC balance after placing the order.

  • use a $0 balance debit card.

    • already do - that’s not the issue:
