  • even though my CT200h can take 0W-20 I've never actually tried it, usually just go 5W-30 as it's more readily available. can anyone chime in whether this is much better?

    • I'd imagine you'd see a slight improvement in fuel economy.

    • Trials & errors: try a 0W-20 & see if it make any-differences, especially if you live in COLD-area with many early-morning start below 5°C.
      LOUDER engine-noise @ start-up means EXTRA metal-to-metal friction.
      Cold-start: your 1st 1-2 kms drive: if smoother-engine (less engine-resistance) with 0W-20 means LESS metal-to-metal friction.
      0W-20 Premium-branded: shake the bottle to see if it's on the THINNER-side (viscosity-test via sound & feel). 0W-20 labeled oil can vary in thickness & keep away from Gulf-Western, SCA & Repco generic-oil.
      This oil is ok. Mobil Super 3000 0W-20 is the LOWEST-quality I would cheap-out on & you should find something on-sales ~$40 for 5L..patience.

      • What's wrong with Gulf-Western?

        • For your consideration-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15184059/redir

          Btw, it's generally cheaper to buy Branded-oil on-sales compare to Gulf-Western, SCA & Repco generic-oil etc, also on-sales. I still have 2 bottles of Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30: $20 & $27-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Castrol%20Magnatec%…

          • @ab c: So there's nothing wrong it?

        • +1

          What's wrong with Gulf-Western?

          Nothing. It's a good oil.

          The statement "0W-20 labeled oil can vary in thickness" is silly because of course it varies in thickness (viscosity) all the way from 0 cSt at -17.8c to 20 cSt at 100c.

          And shake the bottle to see if it's thinner… lol

          • @brad1-8tsi: Anyone: go to say Repco & shake-a-bottle of Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 (normal-version) & compare that with their A5-version (5W-30) & see if you can hear & feel the difference in thinnest.

            Still not-convince: buy BOTH bottles & see if you can feel their difference @ operating-temp….which-one is thinner ? Does the thinner-oil matches your shake-a-bottle thinnest-test ?

            Now repeat the above tests with Gulf-Western 5W-30: pick any 2-variant-> https://www.gulfwestern.com.au/?s=5w-30.

  • Bought a 20L drum from Sparesbox ebay and was just over $160 after ebay plus discounts. Then bought a $2.50 tap off Amazon to get the oil out into manageable 5L oil containers come time for the oil change.

    Haven't used it yet but also have a Corolla Hybrid and a Prius-V. Have used a variety of 0W-20 from Nulon and Valvoline on the Prius-V for the last few years with no issues.
