[PC, Steam] Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown $8.49 (90% off) @ Steam

970

Not sure, but might be the cheapest ever on Steam and first time at this price.

Highly regarded flight series with story elements. This latest edition receiving universally positive reviews since release. Plays more like a simcade than a flight sim, but still offers a good challenge and options to tailor difficulty.

Also available is the season pass at $13.75 -60%. It includes 3 new missions and 3 new planes and is the only DLC to include new mission content, all the others are just planes and skins. Purchasing the Season Pass will give players access to a music player within the game.

But probably the best value deal imo (other than just getting the base game by itself) is the ACE COMBAT™7: SKIES UNKNOWN - TOP GUN: Maverick Ultimate Edition at $ 29.99 -80%. Because your getting the Base game, season pass and the most expensive (and probably most popular) DLC pack for only about an extra $7 and it includes 4 new planes ++ heaps of skins.

All other DLC plane packs are currently between 50-60% off.

Bonus is that it only has (by today's standards) Potato PC requirements, but still looks gorgeous:

    Recommended:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    OS *: Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 (64-bit OS required)
    Processor: Intel Core i5-7500
    Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB)
    DirectX: Version 11
    Network: Broadband Internet connection
    Storage: 50 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 11 sound card
Additional Notes: Estimated performance: 1080p/60fps with graphics settings at "High". Framerate might drop in graphics-intensive scenes. - 64-bit processor and operating system are required. - Windows 10 (Version 1809 or later) and a 4GB VRAM GPU (graphics board or video card) are required for DirectX 12 API.

    $7.20 AUD off GameBillet

Legit official store (not a key marketplace/keyshop) - look here

It's been hovering around the ~$7 - $8 mark for the past year from official stores.

Unless you really want the Steam points no reason to buy off Steam directly.

This is a great game - bargain!

I disagree, it’s not a great game. It’s very much an arcade game with a bad story, and bad cutscenes.

I was expecting something similar to the Jetfighter series, or MicroPhose F-15 Strike Eagle. But no.

      • +5

Depends on what you want. Ace combat has always been a fun, arcade experience. Sometimes you want a realistic military combat simulator, other times you want to have fun without wanting to actually know how to fly a jet.

the only reason why I still havent' got this game on pc is because they didn't bring VR support to the PC version. like they did the PlayStation version.

which annoys me because this game is way better in VR 100%

Yeah I've been meaning to check this out with the uevr injector mod. Time to get on it.

      • +2

yeah the developer already did the work for native VR for PlayStation with out mods I am pretty sure they could do it for PC if they wanted to.

Got the Top Gun Maverick edition on ps5 2 years ago. It's great!!!

Thee Top Gun version is also 80% off but down to $30

Been meaning to check this out, it'll give me a reason to get the HOTAS out of storage

    • +1

Just a word of warning - I bought this thinking it’d be great for my VKB Gladiator HOTAS and triple screen set up. Can’t believe how ridiculously bad the support is for both. My HOTAS works fine but can’t customize the buttons, and I found it surprisingly difficult to play (nothing like squadrons or DCS) and reverted to using a gamepad. Triple screen apparently can be set up but far from straight forward. Best I could get was using 50% of each of my side screens. Look, it’s still a very good game, the missions are fun, but couldn’t believe how not HOTAS friendly a “flight sim” game was. YMMV

    Thank you for sharing.

I'm looking for the Playstation version, it looks like the Maverick edition is $20.90 at the moment (from $122.95), is that a good price?

You're welcome, I don't have a PS4 or 5 so I don't know what the price history is on this game or the Maverick edition, but IMO, it definitely seems like a really good price for a whole lot of content 👍

EDIT: Just found this graph that seems to indicate the current PS Store price is close to it's historical low, only about $5AUD more at the moment, so still very cheap, but if you are not in a hurry/don't have time to play now anyway, then it seems like waiting for it to drop again to $15AUD would be a viable option.

Best, any deals for current Xbox X?

    • Not that I've seen. Been looking for it but xbox copies seem less common than PS ones

How does one play this game. Do you need a special joystick or can the keyboard be used ?

    • It's possible to play with keyboard and mouse, but it's not recommended and a controller (Xbox for example) will be way more intuitive and fun imo. That's why most people use a controller to play this game, it really is what it's designed for, as this series has it's roots on console and this is (I believe) only the second game in the series to be released on PC.

Fair warning this doesn't have ultrawide support

    • +1

Yup no native support, but it can be modded in which still looks great. It is a bit fiddly with multiple steps though

Great game, I got it a year ago as the first game to play on my ROG Ally and it was a heap of fun.

Need more game recommendations like this. I grew up playing Crimson Skies and that want something similar to that and this!

The closest thing to this game would be Project Wingman, it's very similar and has a 91% rating on Steam right now.

It does not seem to have many sales unfortunately, and is $35.95 but it's still much cheaper than AC7 is at full price.

But even better, I found you a Steam key for about $11 AUD at ENEBA, they are a very good and reputable key seller, I have bought probably over 30 keys from them, over several years and never had a problem. Make sure to enter code AKS13 for an extra 13% off (it offsets the service fee so you still get it for about $11)

+1 for Project Wingman, it's a great homage to Ace Combat.
If you can be bothered with emulation then Ace Combat Zero and 5 are the peaks of the series and must plays for any Ace Combat fan.
