I was after some SSD's and just going through Amazon came across this deal, normally $151.99, with a 5% discount atm and there is a 20% discount code on Amazon (just under the price of item). Only seemed to apply the 20% discount when purchased one at a time and would only apply it to 1 SSD when buying multiples (Purchased 3 separate ones for $115.99/ea)

What's their relationship with Fanxiang? Do these also use YMTC flash?

  • +1

Never heard of this brand. Is it any good? The price is attractive.

    • +4

Yes, they were founded after World War II in Finland by a Swiss Nobel laureate and an Italian engineer, originally focusing on mechanical componentry for government contracts before migrating to the electronics sector in the early '70s on the back of their reputable work and outstanding focus on quality control and advocacy for international standardisation. Just kidding, i've no fikwot idea.

      • yes i know u are kidding. but thanks for the humor :)

regardless of the hilarious name. Word of advice to all, stop buying generic/no name brand SSD's, their not worth it. I've tested this with my (and my businesses) wallet and they don't last long. Sure it might go longer than a year (to get you outside of warranty or amazon money back), but they still die very quickly even without excessive use.

For SSD's, Samsung is number 1, With Crucial being number 2. The other big brands that make good quality SSD's (but not the top 2), are:
    - WD
    - Seagate
    - Intel
    - Kingston
    - MAYBE adata

Good point. How about Lexar? I bought a Lexar NM790 4TB from last deal.

      • +1

yeah Lexar & Silicon power are fine as well, would put them in the same bracket as WD, seagate and the rest. But wouldn't put them in Samsung or Crucial territory.

        • +1

i'll also say Sandisk SSD's are fine aswell.

However we recently ordered over 500 SFF pc's that had Sandisk SSD's preinstalled in them, and those have been having a decently high failure rate….however it's too early to say if this is a sandisk problem….could potentially just be a bad batch, alternatively could be something else wrong with the SFF pc's as we have had a large number have other non ssd related issues. So can't point the finger at sandisk to say they have quality issues yet.

    • +1

Geez, Silicon Power no good then?

    • +2

Lexar and SiliconPower are both generally fine.

    • My last DedQck SSD didn’t last long

    • Sandisk and WD do not belong on that list

Please stop doing plural with apostrophes

    • What about Corsair? I thought they were on par with Crucial

      • Can't really comment on corsair, haven't ordered many of them.

I do noticed that when doing bulk orders for PCs corsair drives are rarely in the mix, might have more to do with their sales strategy rather than quality (aiming at individuals, rather than big businesses)

    • i just bought a Crucial MX500 2TB for $181 with a 17% off coupon code from here
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/126170702833
but i was looking for a samsung 870 evo 2tb which were not too much more in price than the crucial mx500 once and now they are around $400 which is twice the price

      • +1

Yeah Samsung knows their the premium brand in this space, so they charge accordingly.

    • At 123 bucks for the 2tb, it’s worth a roll of the dice.

Let’s be clear - if it’s important enough to you then you should be backing it up anyway. And for a game drive or something like that this will be fine.

      • I respectfully disagree, it's not worth a roll of the dice.

But it's your money, do what you want.

Those you brought one should give a Long term review in couple of days….

    • 4TB from April in a crazy low price error still going strong. It didn't come with the dodgy 128 YMTC flash either.

    • yes those you brought one should give

  • Arrived yesterday, setup today.
Benchmarks are almost the same with my other 2 sata SSDs (Lexar 500GB and crucial mx400 2TB)
