This could be a silly question, but would this work on stone/marble?

I have a marble coffee table that needs a nice glossy/protective coating and not sure what to buy.

    • interesting to hear if this can be used on outdoor furniture?

    • +2

I assume it’s not food safe, personally I wouldn’t use it in kitchen or living area. But it should work well on shower screen and mirrors as water repellent coating.

    • +4

Not sure why you were negged. A legitimate question. Yes you can use ceramic coatings on marble. Will make it easier to clean and maintain.

      • +1

This isn't really a ceramic coating per sae though.

Genuine Ceramic coatings dry and leave a fine almost glass like layer.
This doesn't, more leaves a hydrophobic silicon based residue, great if you're happy to reapply every 6 months which for most people is enough.

If you're looking for a cheap ceramic coating solution i'd go to aliexpress. I've had a $15 bottle last me 2 years before it started to fail.

Can you please send us link for ali express?

    • Look for food safe stone sealer.

I bought this from one of the last Amazon US deals just to try this out.
I have 2 stone/marble tables. One already has a glossy coating on it that is still probably a bit porous (if any coloured liquid spills on it the glossy layer tends to slowly absorb the colour of it).
The other one is polished marble.

The spray worked perfectly on the pre-coated table. The surfsce is very smooth now. Didn't absorb any spills so far. The table is skid prone, you can easily slide things over it now but I don't find that to be an issue.

The uncoated one, I only tried the spray on a part of it. The polished marble lost it's shine and is very matte took to it. It's not that noticeable and only visible when the lights reflect over the table. It still makes the surface more slippery. Noticed a similar effect in a cheap marble coaster I tried it in too.
Maybe I need to polish it.

So YMMV but it definitely works for some tables at least.

Oh and it also slightly reduces the chance of skid marks in toilet bowls. But definitely not reccomending to buy this for that purpose.

    • The marble and granite installers told me to use car waxes and polish for protection. They work really well, particularly if you’ve got a machine polisher to apply them.
Marble is much more porous than granite and is vulnerable to marks from wet cups being left on the bench for an extended period. Those marks often need to be sanded out and the marble then re-sealed.
Therefore, keep a nice layer of wax on your marble to help protect it. To clean it, Windex and methylated spirits are safe.

      • Great advice, and yes, I have those wet cup marks all over mine.
        Thanks

  • Any recommendations on quick detailers? Been searching for one that’s good priced for a while. Something that I can use to give a quick wipe to clean random stains and etc.

    • Carpro ech2o. Use it at 20:1 as a quick detailer, 15:1 as a waterless wash. I also use it on interior plastics/glass. Works great!

      • Thanks! Where did you get yours?

        • +1

Waxit sell CarPro. All their products are top quality

    • I like rinseless wash products (e.g. ONR) because they more versatile.

      Depending on budget:
      Meguiar’s Ultimate Quick Detailer
      NV Boost QD
      Gyeon Q²M QuickDetailer

I am sometimes tempted to get Meguiars Hyper Wash and Last Touch Detailer.

This is great stuff and you only need very little per application. One spray bottle will last ages. Don't forget to look up the process - clean, decontaminate, dry, correct clear coat where required (if you are going this far and also putting on a proper ceramic coating )and importantly, applying the turtle wax on a cool temp car in the shade where you can (i.e. in your garage / under cover).

    • Proper ceramic coat and then the spray as well?

    • Wax on top of ceramic coating okay?

      • Not really. Likely not to bond and even if it does you are wasting the hydrophobic benefits of ceramic.

        • Whoops I meant to say - if you are going through the effort of paint correction, you might as well do a proper ceramic application rather than turtle wax

    • thanks for the sharing. Not a pro in detailing, though I do normal clean to real high own standard.
      1) Would you be keen to share the main items you use?
      Would get them.
      2) any proper YouTube video to observe and follow?
“Home Detailer wanna be”, like you.

  • Looks great.

    Who is amazon price matching?

  • is it ok to apply with microfibre cloth?

    • +1

      yes completely fine.

  • I just shampoo the car with a tech 2.0, buff then apply the turtle polish (same vrand as this) do it every few weeks.

In my life the idea that this stuff lasts even 3 months is far fetched.. as in yeah it lasts, until it rains, or gets dirty which is like 3 days. (Black car)

    • Same with mine (black) but easier to clean with this product. Just pressure rinse

  • +1

Will this be useful for car side windows and windscreen for water repellent effect in rain and storm conditions? Thanks.

  • +1

Great- works with the IDIDATHING Mars bar offer.

  • Is it okay to apply this product over a quick car wax, or should it only be used on its own? I still have half a bottle of quick wax from another brand and was wondering if I could use them together. Thanks!

    • +1

You can wax over it if necessary, but not under it. Removing any previous wax or polymer sealant is an important first step before applying TW Ceramic.

To be effective, the SiO2 in this product should bond directly to your paint/clearcoat. Essentially the cleaner your paint is before applying the TW the better it will bond - ergo recommendations for clar bar, iron decon etc prep.

Many modern car washes - eg Meguiars Ultimate - include some sort of wax as a top up over your sealant.

      • I haven't put any wax on my car for several months. Hope the existing wax is all gone by using water wash.

        • If you don't want to go the clay bar route, a couple of good washes with a wash product which doesn't contain waxes eg Chemtech CT18 will help. There are plenty of specialist wax removing products around eg Bowdens Flash Prep etc.

          • @Igaf: Thanks for the heads-up. I usually do a quick rinse with water and then follow it up with a fast wax.

  • How does it compare to Bowdens Own Fully Slick?

  • I like this product but somehow prefer Graphene due to non streak property.

303® Graphene Nano Coating Spray, 1 Year + Protection, Easy Application, Sheds Water Fast, use on Paint, Chrome, Wheels, Trim and Glass (30238) 709 ml https://amzn.asia/d/hXZY8wU

  • Always wondered with these, we already have a ceramic coat, does it help, hurt, or indifferent to use one of these too?

  • +1

Don’t use on windscreen. It becomes very streaky in wet weather. Now I have to get onto Turtle Wax to get advice on removal. Buggar!

    • I have used Rain X, polish wax, and some stuff similar to this with the same "streaky, hazey" effect with the wipers on in the wet. I ended up using straight up polish with the polishing machine to cut it down… followed with dish detergent.

Since then, I just use a blade to scrape off contaminants and dish washing liquid. It's so clean that nothing really sticks.

    • +2

I don't use these products on glass but streakiness usually indicates inconsistent application on paint. Plenty of detailing videos around which deal with that issue. Probably also environmental issues involved.

If you want to remove it rather than rectify it, any of the car wax strippers should work. Or, metho on a cloth, isopropyl alcohol, etc. Any rectification should be preceded and followed by a wash and rinse to limit microscopic scratching. Obviously, be careful to only use the product on the glass - and avoid plastic, rubber etc.

Edit: been using it for years and have never had a streaking or hazing problem with RainX
