Fosi Audio seem to have some good deals on their eBay store. Could be an ATL for this amp?

Would probably be worth paying extra for the version with the 48V power supply to get the full potential:

  • I just received one of these for $109 from Amazon yesterday, guess it'll go back

    • -2

Just randomly, or did you order it?

      • +8

"for $109" implies it's been ordered

        • +1

          Ordered and delivered.
Amazon will take it back though, charge $7 or so return postage within the 30 days.

          • @gunslinger: Or use reason “defective” and get return postage for free :)

    • +3

Failure reviews on Amazon indicate the unit packs up in a few months, typically 4 months or so.

I'd probably pay the Amazon premium just for their stellar customer service and easy returns process.

      • That was one of my experiences with another of their devices. Was disappointed - didn't buy through Amazon 😔

        • +1

I've had a BT10A running 24/7 for over a year, so far so good (runs my ceiling speakers, with an Echo Dot connected via BT)

Did get a BT20A Pro a couple of months ago but haven't actually started using it. I should probably run it in while it still has warranty.

      • +1

FWIW I've had mine since mid 2023, no issues so far.

    • Are you sure that wasn't for the 48V version?

  • +1

is this for the TV or can it be used for PC gaming?

    • +2

it's just a power amp with a bluetooth receiver built in. it can be used with anything that outputs analogue audio.

      • It also takes RCA inputs so you can connect directly to PC sound out

        • Sorry I should have been more clear. This is what I meant

    • Bluetooth will always have lag. Less so if you can find evidence it supports a low latency codec like aptx low latency which I believe has been superseded by aptx adaptive.

How acceptable this is depends on you and what gaming you do.

It will likely be fine without using Bluetooth.

From a look it only "supports" basic Bluetooth codecs. SBC/acc.

      • Even if the Fosi supports a specific low latency codec, they have to make sure the TV does too.

I can't stand bluetooth lag when watching content, it makes native language audio shows unwatchable due to lip sync, and subtitled content unpleasant due to audio FX lag. Not worth it.

Great deal on the OP deal though, good choice for audio only stuff. Cross shopped this and the fosi audio v3 when I was looking.

        • +1

I don't own this product but generally.

I've really struggled to gauge this. On my tv the Bluetooth lag seems to sometimes blow out due to a connection issue and after reconnecting it is acceptable. I don't have an issue on my phone but the YouTube app for example automatically compensates for Bluetooth lag.

Bluetooth is a crap solution generally for audio. It is just very convenient and widely supported. With advance codecs it is ok for quality. Lag is more difficult even with advance codecs. For videos the best solution is to solve it by delaying the video from the source. This doesn't work for gaming and many sources won't support this.

        • Watch everything through a firestick and just adjust for the lag. Follow the bouncing ball.

  • Do they have one with an optical input? If not, how can I convert an optical signal to suit this? Or is there a better product?

  • +3

I bought one from Amazon a couple of years ago for my outdoor speakers, they are brilliant.

    • +1

Just came to say this too - have some outdoor Bose hooked up to it in pool area and its never skipped a beat. Recommend it for a great price!

  • +1

Fosi Audio K5 Pro comes in at $45.14 with 17% off. Amazon currently has it for $74.96 with $15 coupon.

I don't need it, but it's very tempting.

  • +1

Definitely get the 48V, i returned mine as my speakers sounded distorted, only left channel worked. Was using 30watt 100v 8ohms

  • +6

No idea what this is so I got 2, one for me and the other for my brother.

  • I'm considering replacing my TV soundbar with an amplifier and have a couple of questions:

My current setup outputs audio from the TV using an optical cable into the soundbar's input. Does this amplifier have an optical input to support the same connection?

If so, can I connect unpowered (passive) loudspeakers to the amplifier using speaker wire terminals?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    • Go to the product listing. Swipe to the photo of the back. Look for a port labelled Optical or Toslink.

If there's no port, there's no optical.

      • This one only has RCA inputs.

        • Correct! So it has RCA and Bluetooth.

    • Maybe look at a SMSLAD18. Getting a little old but has optical and Bluetooth. I use one of these with my cheap projector and just a pair of passive Edifier speakers.

Pleasantly surprised every time I turn it on.

  • +1

I have this and love it. Thoroughly recommended

  • 300w seems pretty impressive

    • +3

300w is marketing talk, in reality these are closer to 100W per channel into 8 ohms (using the 48V power supply) as tested here:
      https://youtu.be/b1zFuLK655g?si=2YffxwcL55UnaSCD&t=323

Having said that 100w is still plenty of power to drive most speakers, especially at this tiny footprint and price point.

      • Here's a chart of the rated power with various power supplies though it differs slightly to one I've seen elsewhere (and may not actually be for the BT20A Pro)

      • Yeah 100w still compares pretty favorably to my WiiM Amp which supposedly only does 60w per channel

Then on the other end of the spectrum I got some of the Fosi V3 Monos and they are superb

  • any suggestions for a similar level value powered sub to go with something like this?

    • I bought a small active 6” sub to go with my similar Topping unit but found it lacking. I managed to pickup an 8” Velodyne sub from Gumtree, which is so much better.

New or secondhand, set a budget and find what works for you.

      • had a google, that looks like a beast! thanks

  • +3

Anyone measured the standby power drain?

    • Asking the right questions.

I have those power sockets, that measure power usage over a short period of time,
but I don't have this Amp to tell you that 'power drain'.

  • Great find.

  • This or the BT30D Pro, what is the difference? Thanks

    • +1

Google it. BT30D can power a passive sub and has lower wattage output to the speakers

    • +1

I have the 30D Pro. As @GenghisGun says, it can run a passive sub.

I find the Bluetooth is a bit woofy and has lag, but I suspect the cheaper one in the OP won’t be any better. I use a DAC to connect my TV to the RCA sockets and that is a much better quality. The downside is with the DAC/RCA you lose remote control of the volume. (Bluetooth volume runs off the TV remote)

      • Thanks, that's very helpful.

  • +1

what to add to this to add more RCA inputs?

I want one from my CD player, one from my DJ controller etc

  • Definitely recommend fosi. Got a basic one for some passive speakers a few months back and it works a treat and looks sleek.

    • +1

It depends on what you are looking for. The V3 doesn't incl Bluetooth nor Base/Treble controls (although could be adjusted via Fosi App). If those are a non issue then yes the V3 is also worth looking at. There are comparison reviews online.

Not a fan that their Bluetooth as a) only supports one device b) Am surprised they haven't added any connection security challenge i.e. hence anyone (neighbours etc) could connect to it if not in use.

      • -1

Yeah I have the same issue with my Topping Dx3 pro bluetooth I was getting some random neighbour playing their trash music through my device. I worked out a way to just completely disable it, I generally won't use bluetooth anyway because the audio quality isn't really that great.

  • +2

I just got the BT20 a few days ago from Amazon for $10 more and can confirm that Fosi amps are great and are definitely audiophile grade amps(or come really close) on a budget. Really impressed so far.

What's that all about? "Make Up The Price Difference Of $20"

  • I'd love something like this that had a phono input, or at least a unit the same size as a preamp. '80s style Hi-Fi stack, but in miniature!

  • This Fosi has optical input
    https://fosiaudio.com/products/da-2120d-bluetooth-audio-ampl…

but the price is $159.99 USD

  • This one has optical input but is $279 USD
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Fosi-Audio-Integrated-Amplifier-Bl…

    • $279 USD

400 bucks? Might as well I buy some el cheapo Yamaha AVR…

  • I have one of these and can highly recommend it. Perfect for the lounge room.

  • OP Link to Ebay takes one to item that says "Postage:Doesn't post to Australia.Located in: Shenzhen, China". Wonder has something changed?

    • -1

Crazy aussies bought all of our stock.
      STAHP EM!

      • Pretty much lol, I got a message from the store saying that I'll have to wait till 30th this month for dispatch coz they're out of stock 💀

        • I just bought he one which includes a 48v power supply ($99.59). I figured $34.53 extra is reasonable enough assuming it's ok quality.

        • When they message me they "nearly" run out of stock & if I am willing to wait, I said nope send it to me first coz they 'still have stock' & they agreed.

          Lalala…

  • $86.23 before discount now.

  • There are still packages to be had that incl 48v power adaptor. Unless you already own one, it's worthwhile including as not cheap to buy by themselves. $69.99 was best I found. In turn $99.59 with eBay Plus for both is a great deal or 2% more for non members.

As per noted by OP, here is the link

Coupon codes are still valid and not expired.

    • What will be the use cases for the 48v? I think 38v original power supply should be enough for my little system?

      • To be honest, I didn't realise the $65.06 version included a 32v 5A adapter in the box…oops, sort of.
When ordering, I saw drop down option for 32v or 48v which changed the price over the stand alone unit. In turn I picked the 48v which wasn't a lot more than the 32v option.
Had I know it included the 32v by default, then might have reconsidered. No harm though as it adds more power and omph (watts per channel) from what I read so I won't be left wondering but suspect 32v is absolutely fine for most!
There is a Power Matrix on the Fosi Ad at the bottom showing output difference i.e. 48v 5a gives double the output watts compared to default 32v (100w vr 250w)

There are Vids out the comparing 32v vr 48v.

  • Doesn't post to Australia

Looks like the AU stock has gone but still the link is up.

  • Got it today. Pretty hefty unit in such tiny body.
