Where are the days of annual-clearance of Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 5L for $20-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Castrol%20Magnatec%…

The closet I got was a Repco 1 days sales: 25% off marked-prices on 31-Aug-24 where I bought Valvoline Engine Armour 5W-30 5L for $16.88. May be ILSAC GF-6 rating make this oil on the thinner-side of 5W-30. When I did a viscosity test via shaking the bottle & gauge the thinnest of this oil (sound & feel). It seems to match that of Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 5L, also tested @ Repco for comparison.

  • Any knowledgeable people who can answer me this question here¿

My mechanic changed my oil from the recommended 5W-40 to this one (which actually works well for my conditions).

    Problem is I already had a 5 L one of the 5W-40.

Question: could I still add this to my 10W-40 oil in the car, or am I just stuck with a 5L paperweight, now my mechanic uses different oil.

    • API requires that any approved oil must be miscible with another, but that doesn't make it optimal. Having said that, in your case, as long as you don't include a bottle of unused olive oil from your kitchen in that mix, you should be fine.

    • could I still add this to my 10W-40 oil in the car

Yes. SLIGHTLY thicker/thinner oil affect fuel economy & UN-noticeable to many, assuming you drive for mileage, stick to PREMIUM-brand, regular oil-change etc etc etc
