$5 off a Gift Card Each Month with $4.99 Per Month ShopBack Plus Subscription @ ShopBack

3439

Hey all,

Hope all has been well! It’s been a while since my last post but we’ve been working hard behind the scenes on a new membership program called ShopBack Plus! We know how much you love Gift Cards, so monthly Gift Card credits are a big perk of this program!

For a cost of $4.99 per month, ShopBack Plus members get:

  • $5 off any Gift Card (that’s the membership paid for, plus a little profit on top)
  • Higher Cashback rates at top brands
  • Up to 10x Cashback on Plus Day each month (keep your eyes peeled for 1st October)
  • Entry into a monthly Cashback giveaway

How to Sign Up

  • Click on the “Go to Deal” link
  • Link a debit/credit card
  • Sign up as usual

GYB's Notes:

  • By signing up to ShopBack Plus, your membership will be valid until 11:59pm AEST/AEDT the following month on the same day (for example: if you sign up on 19 Sep at 5pm AEST, your membership will be valid until 19 Oct 11.59pm AEDT).
    • Your membership will be renewed automatically every month unless you cancel it at least 24 hours prior to your renewal date.
  • Memberships are non-refundable. If you were to cancel your membership, it will be valid until the end of your billing period as above.
  • You can sign up for ShopBack Plus on any device - desktop, mobile web or the ShopBack app.
  • To utilise the Gift Card offer you will need to use the ShopBack app. Keep your eyes peeled as you’ll soon be able to purchase gift cards on desktop/mobile web soon!
  • Your Cashback balance can be used to pay for your membership (turn the toggle off if you don’t want to use it on the first payment). Renewals however will by default deduct from your Cashback balance first, and any remaining outstanding amount from your default linked Mastercard/Visa card.
    • To avoid using Cashback towards membership renewals, you’ll need to cancel your membership at least 24 hours before your renewal date and manually join again once your membership expires.
  • Apple Pay is not available for ShopBack Plus membership payments and renewals. You'll need to pay using your Cashback and/or a linked Mastercard/Visa card.

Enjoy!

    Whoa! Cashback Subscription!
Could we have first month free? ;-)

    • -5

Sorry @djoz :( Unfortunately there will be no free trial but you can cancel your subscription in the next month if you feel to do so. Let us know if you have any other questions!

      • "No free trial and no refunds, benefits include higher rates and Plus day which I refuse to elaborate on but it's worth it trust me"

Certainly premium customer service isn't one of the perks with a response like that.

        • -5

          Oh chill lol ;)

          • +3

@SimAus007: Well it's clearly an advertisement not a deal and the only concrete information we've got is pay $5 for a $5 gift card.

Happy to eat my words if the rep explains how this subscription is actually worth it when the cashback rates are often better at competitors without having to pay.

Take a look around bud I'm not the only one wondering….

Plus you get the $5 back each month in the form of a gift card.

If you don't like it, move along, don't subscribe, no need to be a negative nelly.

You want to be a shill go for it. But actually contribute to the discussion. All that you have provided is marketing hogwash which you seem to have fallen for.

@pennypincher98: Fallen for it? I have no interest in subscribing, but some may find it worthwhile lol

@pennypincher98: OMG, scroll above to the top of the page and read again.

@SimAus007: Okay now I'm genuinely curious - do you know what concrete information is?

Per the posting guidelines people generally value their time and want to know what the benefit of signing up is - it warns against non descriptive or ambiguous "sales" and the same applies here where it says a lot of words but no substance.

                            Here I'll help you understand:

                            • Higher cashback: is this 0.1% or 20% higher? What's the average rate? Is this all stores? Are 0% categories higher cashback or still 0%?
                            • Up to 10x: What's the average rate? Is it a few random store from 0.5% going to 5% (10x) and the rest barely going up?
                            • Entry into a giveaway: How much is the giveaway? How many prizes?

This should all be included in the post.

                            • -3

@pennypincher98: "Here I'll help you understand" Oh dear, how you must be the life of that party, if that is truly how you speak with people in real life.
Try to be nice, it's actually not that hard. No need to respond, please.

                              • -1

@SimAus007: You could always try posting to contribute to the community you've been a part of for 3 years - but seems you prefer to leech off everyone else.

                                Apologies, respect is earned.

                                • -2

@pennypincher98: At it again, thank you for your valued insults.

                                  • @SimAus007: You're welcome, glad you took the hint :)

JFC.. all this over getting a rep to submit a deal properly LMAO. Topcashback are doing highest cashback guarantee for free. All I wanted to know was if there's anything worth paying for but you had to just insert yourself in between with your holier than thou speech.

    • +2

you wish. I will wait till they have some super good deal before join!

  • Is that $5 off gift cards every month or just once off

    • +1

Add to this question, Is there a minimum spend for the $5? Or can I just grab a $5 Amazon every month?

      • +3

        I purchased a $5 Amazon gift card with it earlier + 2% cashback ($0.10).

        • Great news .. makes it worthwhile cheers mate

      • +6

It will be $5 off for any gift card each month (monthly) and the minimum spend would be $5 @jussie2000 @Onemoredeal @DrScavenger

        • +2

increase to $10 off a month and then come back to us

    • +1

The gift card is advertised as 'every month'.

standard fare from a company that gives out a few cents as prizes

    • +2

hmm not really worth it unless you use $5 GC each month (and not like forget to buy 1 each month)

      • It's called an automated reminder in your phone, PC, Alexa speaker etc.
You don't need to remember anything.
I would be screwed without reminders, it has saved me a fortune.

    • +1

      Wow.

ShopBack is terrible now in my opinion since the mass layoffs and the mysterious circumstances around the original GYB.

      https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/shopback-lays-off-24-per-c…

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/841842

This is a whole new low for ShopBack in my view.

      • 3x cashback during Prime days all got rejected. Hopeless now.

      • +1

Oh no, is this GYB not the same as before? The original GYB did an amazing job but still got fired? What a sh*t and greedy company.

        • Any company that fires a quarter of the workforce has made bad decisions that hurt a lot of people.

No CEO or Founder should survive that.

      • Old news

        • Not when the ramifications are still prevalent.

The people that made the bad decisions are still there to my knowledge. Plus, look at the negative feedback since that time.

Why did you delete your comment?

  • +1

    haha! here we go…

  • Spend spend spend …

  • +1

Do you get 5$ off gift card each month or is it a one off? It's worth it if it's every month. Worthless if it's not

    Pay $4.99 get $5 free

    • +3

except you can always get that $5 card for $4.75 in most places

      • +1

You do still get the cashback on the gift card purchase.

        • -6

          You don't.

          • $5 discount on $5 gift card, you pay nothing and earn no cashback. (Nett spend $4.99)

          • Pay $5 on a 2% cash back gift card, you earn $0.10 back. (Nett spend $4.90)

          • +2

@PrinceOfWhales: I already purchased hours ago and got $0.10 cashback on the $5 Amazon Gift Card, using the $5 credit from membership, as the payment method.

            See Screenshot

            Tracking Screenshot.

            • +1

@hamza23: I stand corrected if you received further cashback from redeeming the $5 'free' gift card.

Still not a fan of the subscription, but I'll admit when I get my assumption wrong.

  • +20

Shopback plus.. wtf. It isn't the 1st of April. 😕

    • +2

      Literally my first thought too.

    • +4

Shopback Pro Max released on that date :)

  • +8

Here we (profanity) go, a subscription service for a cashback site ffs…

    • +17

Better withdraw your cash before the "withdraw feature" gets locked behind a subscription.

  • +8

I am happy with my Ozbargain Plus subscription.

  • +2

Unless your gift card rates are better than others, I can't see the benefit of this membership.

    • +1

$0.60 cashback on Uber Eats orders (existing customers), instead of the usual $0.10 (or $0.40 at TopCashBack) is something at least I will use and get some benefit from. On top of just breaking even with the gift card purchase.

Extra 0.5% on eBay might come in handy.

      • When did it change back to $0.60? I gave up when it was $0.10

        • +3

It's still $0.10, but if you are a plus member with this subscription, it goes up to $0.60.

I had been using topcashback with $0.40 previously.

          • +2

@hamza23: TopCashback has just increased to $0.65 for existing Uber eats customers

The new Uber eats customers rate did decrease to $13, from $15 originally

Really makes the ShopBack Plus look bad now

  • +2

Higher Cashback rates at top brands
Up to 10x Cashback on Plus Day each month

Yeah we're gonna need details and hard numbers on that since it seems to be about the only other sweetener or fathomable reason as to why anyone would consider this.

    • +1

The 'Higher Cashback rates at top brands' are already listed on the website.

The only thing that took my interest was the Uber Eats $0.60 cashback, instead of $0.10 for existing customers.

    • +2

Most are 0.5% higher, some are 1% on a quick look earlier

      • Yep, imagine all the extra money you'll save buying from retailers you may visit once a year…

        • :D exactly

    • WHAT IS "PLUS DAY ?

  • +1

Are there any listed deals other than a "1c profit" gift card? Why would I signup to this and be forced to make purchases and spend all this time for 1c. Please give examples of deals with this plus tier

  • +17

Subscriptions my (profanity), if you lock better cashback rate behind subscription (ie: those standard upsized cashback we get from time to time and shared on OZB), then I will just go to another cashback provider.

    Cough topcashback ehem

    • +3

Topcashback TCB does the same in UK. Once they get marketshare here , they will follow as well.

Just see how the market follows CBA offerings and 70% of sheeps still bank with CBA for getting peanuts in Yello

  • +5

$5 off any Gift Card (that’s the membership paid for, plus a little profit on top (1 CENT!). IT CANNOT BE LITTLER!

  • +3

A gift card is not legal tender, and is not without limitations, it only has value if it is exchanged for good and or services that you wanted in the first place. It cannot be considered as a profit.

Higher cashback rates and Plus days means that ShopBack controls where you spend your money and how much you spend. How is that a benefit to me?

Cashback Giveaway, has anyone ever won any of the previous ShopBack Giveaway competitions?

    • +4

I got a message before but then they said it was an error. Ouups Sorry you did not win!

  • +6

Gotta admit, I'm not a huge fan of all these companies trying to get on to the monthly subscription money grab train.

Things like this often end up with the company using this as a precursor to an IPO (hey check out all these chumps we've now got paying us monthly - so we're now valuing ourselves at a far higher amount than previously). Then once they go public it's all downhill as profits then get funnelled back to shareholders.

    • Singapore investors got to cash out mate for the super yachts

  • +2

This may be just tedium. Not sure I want to set a reminder each month to redeem my $5 gift card code, add the gift card to my wallet and remember to use it.

  • +1

Not a deal to pay $4.99 upfront to get a $5 gift card (which you can get for less anyway with cashback), not to mention the risk of forgetting to redeem

    • +1

which you can get for less anyway with cashback

You still get cashback on the $5 gift card, as you would usually.

But yes, everyone needs to set a monthly reminder to redeem the gift card!

      • +1

set a monthly reminder to redeem the gift card!

And not forget to USE the gift card you redeemed. Safest option is to buy an Amazon gift card, as you can immediately add that to your Amazon account balance without making a purchase. I believe Amazon account balance never expires.

  • +15

Fix your tracking before you look to add additional revenue streams.

This is also going to be them locking their higher cashback behind a paywall. Lucky we've got Topcashback and cashrewards.

  • +3

"Higher Cashback rates at top brands"

Can you share what these might be? If for example it's Amazon from 1% to 2%, or eBay from 2% to 3%, then I'm not sure. But if it's bigger discounts it could be worthwhile.

    • +2

Plus rates are on the website.

      • +1

So pretty much an additonal 0.5%. Not great

    • 0.5% extra on both of amazon gift card, and amazon purchase is effectively 1% extra for anything bought from amazon, with (after you've joined) nothing extra to do than what you were doing anyway if you were buying that way to maximize the cashback.

      • Not if you pay with credit card

        • oh, yes, of course.
this is plus the points you get in the credit card when you use that to buy the gift card

  • +10

I don't like where this is headed.

  • @gotyourback The info in this link needs to be updated as it's confusing. Thanks.

    https://www.shopback.com.au/subscriber-shopback-plus

Once you’ve opted in, your ShopBack Plus subscription will auto-renew every month after the trial period. We’ll deduct the subscription fee from your Cashback balance or linked debit or credit card. Because ShopBack Plus lets you earn higher Cashback, you’ll likely earn enough to cover the subscription fee. But if not, don’t worry, you won’t need to to (sic) pay the fee.

  • +3

By having giftcard it will force us to buy at normal price (without promotion) because we feel thr giftcards are free. So, unnecessarily purchases. Which benefit shopback (more commissions). At the end they win

  • +2

Is this consider a bargain or advertisement?

  • +1

the Westpac deal is already ridiculous now a paid subscription??!! This will reduce the benefits for the normal user.
