Are they Original Dell batteries or 3rd party?

    • Third party

      • +19

Be careful, they could be remotely detonated one day.

  • +2

Has this model got the backlit keyboard?

Is the screen the 100% sRGB or the NTSC 72%?

    • +1

It seems like it has backlit keyboard based on youtube videos.

      • Wasn't there a backlit version being sold that could be folded like a tablet recently for a similar price?

    • +5

Those are colour gamuts. NTSC covers more of the total colour spectrum than sRGB but still little compared to many others. 100% sRGB covers 72% of the NTSC spectrum.
Here is a list of common gamuts and how much of the colour space they cover -

      1. Rec. 2020 (BT.2020): This is one of the widest color gamuts used in modern displays, covering about 75.8% of the CIE 1931 color space.

      2. Adobe RGB: Covers about 52.1% of the CIE 1931 color space, offering a wider range of colors than sRGB, especially in the green and cyan regions.

      3. DCI-P3: Commonly used in digital cinema and some high-end monitors, it covers about 45.5% of the CIE 1931 color space.

      4. NTSC: Covers about 53.6% of the CIE 1931 color space, but it's less commonly used in modern displays.

      5. sRGB: Covers about 35.9% of the CIE 1931 color space, and is the standard for most web and consumer-grade displays.

    usual questions:
    ram upgrade-able ?

  • +1

    Screen brightness anyone ???

    • +1

      Yes please.

      • Googled it:

        https://www.productindetail.com/pn/dell-latitude-5300

I have one and it is plenty bright.

        • +1

Thanks. I wasn't sure how to tell if that was the same screen. Some of the other specs are different.

          Anyway, I pulled the trigger.

          Thanks.

      • +2

To be fair, I'm not as bright as some!

  • +4

Condition: Good cosmetic condition, may have some scratches wear and keyboard marks on the screen. New Battery

  • +1

    Do these charge via USB-C?

    • 1 USB Type C™ 3.1 Gen 2 with Power Delivery
      means can?

      • +1

        Yes it does.

  • Is it an old-school power adapter? no USBC PD charging?

    • +1

1 USB Type C™ 3.1 Gen 2 with Power Delivery
      means can?

      • Yeah I saw that but no sure how to interpret. Does this mean it will charge from USB-C Power Delivery, or that it can charge something else, like a phone? I'm honestly not sure.
Had a look for specs online but didn't get anywhere either, thus the question.

        • +6

I got one of these in a previous deal, and mine came with a regular power adapter, but it can also be charged via the USB-C port (as long as the USB-C cable delivers enough power!)

        • -5

when it says power delivery means the port can deliver power to the laptop.

"or that it can charge something else, like a phone" well every single usb in the world can charge a phone so thats not what it meant

    • +6

I own one and can confirm this can be charged via USB.

      • perfect, thanks

  • Do you sell batteries as well? I want to replace one for my Lattitude.

  • Only if it's 1 year warranty

  • Could you clarify if this USB-C port supports both charging and video output? I have a dock that connects two external monitors, provides Ethernet, and charges my newer laptop. Will this USB-C port offer the same functionality?

    • Yes it does.

  • Does this have a fingerprint sensor on the power button?

    • +1

The last one I ordered did not.

  • Can the SSD be easily upgradable?

    • Yes, very easy, instructions are on dells website

    • Super easy. I put a spare 512GB in mine.

  • Toasty of a laptop. These things run that hot the rubber on need to be replaced yearly

    • Mine is fine.

  • +1

$30 extra for a fresh battery is a good deal, would also love to buy separately as it's the only negative on this laptop I bought last month.
Fyi mine was 1x 16gb stick with one slot spare

    • Mine was dual channel.

  • CMIIW, but would the screen be glossy like most touch screens?

They look nice on display and in the dark but are otherwise very reflective and distracting compared to matte screens that most business models are equipped with.

It's my only/main dislike in what otherwise sounds like a bargain.

  • What Whr battery do these come with?

  • Would it be possible to get this laptop with 32GB RAM and Win 10 Pro rather than Win 11? If so, how much would it cost?

  • +1

Will these have a windows recovery partition?

The last one didn't, so couldn't factory reset.

    • Maybe you can do it through Windows, in the way where it downloads a fresh version during the recovery process?

    • +2

Try following this guide, the tool will create a USB which will recreate the partition and install the factory image. Its far easier than manually downloading a vanilla image and installing a bunch of drivers, and it will automatically put apps like MyDell/Dell Power Manager (to adjust fan mode between quiet, max performance, and change peak charge etc)

      https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000123667/how-to-do…

I can’t remember if this era laptop has SupportAssist OS recovery, new ones certainly do, but that basically streams the bits from the internet even if your recovery partition is gone, secure erased the SSD, etc. It will be a boot option if it is supported.

If you do decide to DIY with a plain Windows install then install the drivers yourself from Dell, they publish a guide that details which order to install the bits and pieces here:

      https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132394/how-to-in…

    • +3

Not really needed with big brands like Dell. If Windows completely craps itself, just find any other Windows PC, a USB stick and create a bootable Windows installer. Then if you must, go to the Dell website and put the serial number of the laptop in. Download whatever drivers it says you are missing and install them.

  • Thoughts on using this as a Plex Server with built in UPS?

    • sure, if you have plex subscription for hardware acceleration otherwise it could fall apart with concurrent users

alternative is jellyfin which is free, better imho but haven't touched plex for more than a year now

might be worth checking out what you can get with a busted screen

without UPS and say about 4 concurrent stream a wyse 5070 for $50 is a great option, fanless and really low power consumption

      • Im rocking a lifetime plex from black Friday… well worth it. I have an HP elitedesk 800 G3, it’s OK but lacking a little grunt. That said 2x streams is realistically all I would need. Currently running on a DS1522. Appreciate your answer

        • i use the wyse 5070

wyse, g3, and this laptop should really be fine with hardware acceleration

what cpu do you have? 7th gen?

if it's purely about UPS then a laptop sounds like a good option - only concern would be fan noise

        • Maybe it's your clients then, you can do a shedload of streams if you aren't transcoding and if you are having to transcode everything either your clients are configured wrong or your files should be created / aquired in a format that suits your clients.

          • @BaryGusey: x265 10bit is very common these days

if the g3 has a 6th gen cpu that would explain the issues since it can't hardware transcode that content

7th gen cpu upgrade will fix it, if he already has 7th gen then yes, client/config issue is most likely

            • @desync: x265 10bit
yeah even google tv with chromecast able to play it i was surprised

            • @desync: I'm saying you shouldn't need to transcode at all. My media players from 2015 play HEVC, raspberry pi can play HEVC. If you have clients that cant play HEVC then don't get HEVC content.

  • Got one, thanks OP

  • Is the 8gb ram version your selling come with 1 8gb stick or 2 x 4gb sticks?

  • Thanks op

Grab one to replace a dead 7 year old X1 Carbon that died yesterday

  • Thanks. Bought one.

  • Is this the 2 in 1 version that can fold into tablet mode, and that works with some Dell Stylus pens?

    • No. It folds back flat only.

  • +1
    • Is this one the same model as the one in the deal?

      • It appears that way, but I don't believe this one comes with a brand new battery.

        • -1

Interesting just over $300 can get trs for $27 so net is 226$

can this one handle software like lightroom or photoshop?

Would these batteries last 5+ hours? school spec say minimum requirement is 5+ hours

    • Yes

What's the screen resolution on this ?

    • 1920 x 1080 pixels

  • Out Of Stock :(

    • Have a look at this one $430 for MICROSOFT 2-IN-1 SURFACE BOOK 2 13.5" QHD - INTEL CORE I7-8650U/16GB RAM/256GB SSD/WINDOWS 11

For the extra $ you get I7 processor, much higher res and better quality screen, more responsive touch screen, and lighter.

      https://renewd.com.au/collections/laptops/products/microsoft…

      • +1

        And GTX 1050

        • Yeah, that is bargain for $430. For an extra $151 you get a lots of bangs in exchange of an old battery.

          • @adnan: Looks like the batteries (one in the tablet, another in the base) are not replaceable.

  • Jeez i hope others were luckier than me as the one i received looks like it was pulled out of the ewaste bin at Bunnings. Bad scraches/gouges on screen and lots of body marks etc. Looks past its useful life to me

    • Bummer. Contact the seller. They are good I believe fixing this type of thing. Mine was near perfect.

    • 1 bad gourge at the top of the case 7cm long. 1 long horizontal gouge half way across the screen and a 5cm vertical gouge. They are about 2-5mm wide. Plus 10 or so tiny vertical slashes on the screen. The gouges are barely visible on a white screen. But on darker colours its clearly visible. Also 10 dead pixels from a screen scratch

  • I have received mine last Friday. There are fine scratch marks on the bottom and palm rest area, Left side corner there is one area of deep discolouration, otherwise nothing else I could find. The display does not have any marks. And also I have not found any dead pixel. Overall I am happy for the price I paid for. Battery going to last I believe from the short amount time I have used it.
