Get the slow cooker out one more time before it’s summer. Good price for pork hock. Works well in soup. Not listed in other catalogue specials helpfully listed here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866741 by HotAuDeals

Leberkäse>Berliner>Devon
I'd slot mortadella between the first two
good to freeze for later use
How long to thaw out in the fridge, overnight then straight into slow cooker?
Edited to add, I'll keep mine in the fridge, seems it has preservatives to keep it fresh.
I'll buy another one since I don't think 750g is enough.
This cut of meat looks pretty unappealing. Chicken drumsticks are better value @ $4/kg and taste better.
Really different use cases. I’ve only ever used this in soup like pea and ham soup. It all breaks apart and falls off the bone when slow cooked and adds great flavour and thickens to the soup.
You can also add chicken to soup… so similar use cases.
so similar use cases
Definitely NOT!
You've obviously never slow cooked using Smoked Pork Hock!
Its the absolutely delicious taste & smell that it gives the soup etc that makes it so great.
A wonderful, comforting memory from my childhood. My mouth is watering with the thought!
Ham Hocks Are My Secret Ingredient
It's not the same as just adding some cheaper relatively bland meat to a soup as you recommend.
People don't buy ham hock for the meat content… There is little meat it. But the delicious taste - in a slow cooked meal…
Such a quick neg, showing the obvious lack of knowledge & understanding!
Enjoy a bland life!Luckily others understand & appreciate great tastes - at a discounted price😉
@INFIDEL: Sounds like they've never had a pea and ham soup. As good as it gets.
@unleashthepain: My Winter fave!
A comforting, filling meal. Cheap - even with delicious ham hocks.@INFIDEL: you can tell certain people have never cooked or been exposed to a wide variety of food
why would you compare chicken to pork?
its literally apples to oranges comparison
my parents love ham hock
you eat the ham on the outside and use the bone for soup
Got one, which recipe for pea and ham soup in an instant pot or slow cooker (I have both) do you all recommend?
You've probably already made something by now but i made this ham hock minestrone soup using a 1kg hock in the slow/multicooker this weekend and it's pretty awesome. Made around 5 big meals.
Deal is still in this week so if you can get stock there’s time to make it again or something else.
