[Perks] Philips Hue White Ambiance Bluetooth Downlight 90mm $47.40 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

220

Great deal on Phillips Hue lights. I rarely see these below RRP tbh, so I might snap some up even though I don't really need them.

Did Philips release a newer model of these?
Because JB (and every other retailer) still list them as 600 lumens.
However, the official website states 800 lumens - https://www.philips-hue.com/en-au/p/hue-white-ambiance-garne…

    • This is one of the reason I am holding back to change in the area which needed a bit more lumens.

    • They did… https://reductionrevolution.com.au/products/philips-hue-garn…

"This V2 model is over 30% brighter than the previous version - now with 800 lumens of light output (was 600 lumens)."

      • They're expensive :(

I guess I'll wait until upcoming promo deals to get these

  • Has anyone installed these alongside insulation?
    I can't find anywhere if they're IC-4 rated.

    • I’ve had these installed in my insulated ceiling. Not sure about the rating but they seem ok

    • no issues so far after 3 years

    • Afaik the downlight is but driver might not be? I can’t quite remember mine were put in a while ago. If you Google the spec sheet there should be a scan floating around somewhere online.

Hopefully aldi have their $15 ones come back soon.

    • Why the negs? I have Aldi lights throughout the house and they have been great. Not sure I could justify a house full of Hues for the price.

  • These arnt bright enough. Only for ambient light.

    • Beam angle 110° so maybe works OK with 2.4m ceilings, perhaps not ideal for task lighting. There's a new, brighter, dearer 'V2' with 800 lumens.

      • I have moved to moes downlights from aliexpress work quite well with hue and home assistant. ~$20 a light and full colour.

  • Anyone found ESPHome flashed downlights that you can just buy for Australia? I have a few Aldi ones but need more. Would be good if they were cheap too :)

In my honest opinion just get Zigbee. I've got them linked to ZHA in home assistant which I can presume you are likely using if you have ESPHome.
They tend to be more resilient than wifi based options, and any issues with DHCP or wifi won't mean you're locked out of your lights.
If you're sticking it in your ceiling just get the thing least likely to cause a headache later.

Can you recommend any 90mm Zigbee down lights approved for use here? Apart from these hue ones.

I use these in my patio and garage and they work fine (note that they have colour too):
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/132547138580?var=432549327477

Inside I use the Hue Aphelion lights which are more like 120mm but have been superb.

There seem to be other Hue options like Garnea or Akarai.

In all honesty Phillips Hue are some of the most reliable Zigbee lights on the market, and they are well supported.
I wouldn't hesitate buying Hue, and if you are able to get the ones listed in this offer the price is good.

      • Have you had any experience with the Brightgreen ZigBee stuff?
        https://brightgreen.com/products/control
Looks like the dimmers or switches are put in front of regular lights to connect them to the ZigBee network. In some cases would be better than buying ZigBee pucks to install in front of lights (as you have a physical button that everyone can use)

        • No I don’t.
But I’ve 3d printed a custom faceplate with magnets for my Hue and IKEA remotes.
They sit over the light switch, can be listed in case of a hub issue but otherwise provide the same functionality with dimming and discourage people from actually turning off the light.
          You can check thingiverse etc

FWIW I paid $48.95 per unit way back in 2019. From Lectory

  • Any deals on the coloured downlights?

    • Not in the email

    • +3

No but JB and officeworks have "bulk buys" of $75 each if you're buying more than 4, and they seem to be willing to negotiate lower, we got 22 for $60 each at JB last week.

  • If you need more than 1 the 4pack is around $199 occasionally which is almost the same .I need 6 so i may grab 2 here

  • How bright are these compared to the nue zigbee lights?

  • Just moved into a new house and need to change to Hue downlights to replace my old school globe set up.

Across 7 years I replaced every globe in my old place, from outdoor lights to the one in the shitters. Several starter packs later I amassed about 13 Hue bridges in addition to the one I already had just to get the globes.

Now the new place has no use for them aside for a couple of E27’s for lamps.

Right now I’m waiting for Govee to expand its offering for Australia because Hue’s are so expensive. I love them but the new house has 4 downlights in each bedroom. Living area alone has 12.

Anyone else feel my pain or am I just being sad for no reason. Please help. Im tender.

    • You can get the Brightgreen dimmers for about $100 discounted
      https://brightgreen.com/products/control
These can be installed to replace the switch for, say, the 4 downlights. Then they will all act as 1 ZigBee light (can't be controlled individually) but a much more affordable option (depending on the sparky costs).

I guess the dimmer needs active + neutral, which may not be available at the switch?
So maybe buying ZigBee pucks could be an answer?
