I guess they are trying to lure back all disappointed players from The Crew 1 which was abruptly shut down in March this year. And since both games require online connection even for single player mode, this one will be also unplayable, once Ubisoft decides to shut down servers.

FWIW Ubisoft has confirmed offline modes are coming for both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest

    • The Crew 1 which was abruptly shut down in March this year.

Not quite abrupt when Ubisoft announced in December 2023 that the servers would be going offline in three months.

This week they announced both The Crew 2 and Motorfest will be getting offline modes.

The behaviour shouldn’t be excused. If you are requiring a single player game to be online to play, any shutdown of services should not be happening before an offline mode is made available.

I don’t see how the online requirement is the customers fault. They didn’t design the game, they just want to be able to play what they paid for.

Who doesn't use or buy from steam but does use Ubisoft's shocking client?

    • With a Ubisoft title it makes no difference. It requires Ubisoft Connect no matter where you buy the game from. Some people might buy Ubisoft games without using Steam. Well because with buying Ubisoft games through Steam all the Steam client does is download the game files that's all. The game license requires a Ubisoft account and that crappy Ubisoft client app to run. All the Steam client does is launch the Ubisoft client app which then that launches the game from the files downloaded through the Steam client.

With this being a Ubisoft title. Even if bought through Steam it still not only requires a Ubisoft account. That it ties the game license to the Ubisoft account the first time you play it. And it also requires the Ubisoft Connect client app just to play the game even when it's downloaded directly through Steam. So you're still forced to using the Ubisoft shocking client with this game no matter what. It still in the end requires the Ubisoft Connect client just to play the game.

So you might as well buy it from Ubisoft in the first place as you still need the Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect download any way?.

It's not as if the $1.50 bought through Steam isn't going directly to Ubisoft.

But if you buy from Ubisoft, they get all of the money. If you buy on Steam, you can spite Ubisoft by letting Steam take a cut. Plus, since it's a "Steam game", you get Steam achievements and you can use the Steam overlay for group chatting and web browsing without alt+tabbing out, which is good since plenty of online games have a nasty habit of disconnecting you when you alt+tab out.

Of course, you "could" buy the game from Ubisoft and use their overlay for group chat, but good luck finding any friends that use Ubisoft Connect :)

        • Yes that's all good for you. One might argue that Steam is another level of DRM to deal with. That you not only have to deal with Ubisoft Connect but also Steam at the same time just to begin to start the game. As in 2 seperate DRM game clients.

Not bad, and with concord gone, it’s good to have some solid online games to fill the void.
