Good luck if you have to cancel your booking and request a refund. Booking.hold onto your money for as long as possible.
Internet is awash with horror stories.

I always pay at the very last moment they allow.

YMMV, but personally I've never had any dramas with them. Their support and quick response is the reason I've stuck with them over all other online travel agents. I've made 40+ reservations through them over the past decade, with no issues that weren't attended to in a timely manner.

And yeah, the cashback tracks :)

      • Yeah, no issues from me either. Got a $400 cashback last year for a place booked more than 6 months in advance.

Just be aware that you won't get the bonus $20 unless you received the invitation email and activated the offer, as per the Terms & Conditions:
"This promotion is open to members that receive an invitation email directly from Cashrewards and successfully activate the bonus offer using the Cashrewards account that corresponds to the email address that received the invitation (“Eligible Entrants”). To qualify for the $20 bonus, Eligible Entrants must first activate the offer, then book accommodation online at Booking.com via a Cashrewards platform between 15/09/2024 10:00 AM AEST and 16/09/2024 09:59AM AEST (“Promotional Period”) with a minimum spend of $100 (incl. GST) (“Qualifying Purchase”).

If you didn't get that email and attempt to activate it you get a "Sorry, you're not eligible for this offer." error.

kinda sucks to see it in your cashrewards and not be able to activate it!!!

    • +1

Interesting. There's no mention of activation in the Offers & Coupons section on Booking.com's page, making it quite confusing.

Doggy company, and pointless rewards program.

My experience earlier this year, you would always get a higher price via those rewards websites, even you are getting 'rewards', eventually still higher than w/t rewards. An easy way to test, check the price via the cash reward website, and check the price on your mobile phone or different laptop(or incognito mode, make sure this device/your mobile is NOT in the same network/wifi).

My experience last night, made a booking, found a cheaper price, called them and asked them to price match, I was told that they are only able to proceed with the price match via email, not over the phone(they used to), then what if the price changes while the price match request being reviewed? I am not wasting my time, simply cancelled the reservation on Booking, and you can see the transactions in the screenshot, the booking and cancellation literally in 30 mins, but why I did not get full refund? I have no fkn idea, avoid them, and do not waste your time.

    • Totally agree, I had a horrible experience with them as well… avoid like the plague…

    • but why I did not get full refund?

If you paid (or it was simply billed in the back-end) in a foreign currency, they probably refunded to you in the same foreign currency, so you'll lose a bit in the conversion both ways. Potentially international fees depending on the card also?

      • I chose 'pay later', not 'pay now', they might hold a certain amount for the authorization, but should not TAKE it from my account before the agreed date.

As I said, I made a booking and cancelled it in 20 minutes, I lost $22 and got nothing because of the international fee. If this is true if the currency rate increases, do I get a higher refund than the original booking price? Booking.com is just a joke, seriously.

10% is not worth it, needs to be well above 10% before you should care. My experience is that by searching a hotel on Google and clicking through the link, booking.com will give a 10% discount. I assume it's some optimisation to look better on price comparisons. Booking.com are not the only OTA who does this, but there are OTAs who do not play these funny games (and so the cashback promos are more worth it).
You won't get this discount if you go incognito and type the URL directly (ie without the referral from Google), or if you click thru cashback sites.

I've just discovered this recently also. In fairness, going to just booking.com then looking for a room will show it as the same price as these cashback sites, so you do get your 10%, but it seems going through Google after searching for dates for a specific hotel on Google's accommodation-finder sidebar often allows one to get the 10% instantly.
