[Windows] Hard Disk Sentinel Professional A$29.70 (Was $49.50) @ HDSentinel.com

HDSP-H1-GA79612

Having recently purchased a bunch of East-digital drives, I couldn't be bothered waiting on the free standard that I got free here a while ago from Here. So the standard software only let me test one surface test per drive at a time, which for 3 drives it would've taken me 3 days. So, I decided to take the punt and buy the pro licence so I could run them all at the same time.

As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the standard I was more than happy to pay the $30 to support the developers, and heck the license is lifetime!

How is this better than the free version?

    • +2

I don't have any personal experience, but for one thing, the OP mentions that they can do a surface test on multiple drives at once with the pro version. I clicked the link and got this:

      Key Features

      • Monitoring and analysis of hard disk drives and solid state drives
      • Comprehensive disk drive details, hard disk SMART information
      • Error logging and graphs to analyse disk status changes

      Registration unlocks the following features

      • Ultimate data protection for all hard disks and solid state disks
      • Flexible alerts (popups, sound, e-mail, etc.) and optional daily reports
      • Disk tests to ensure maximum stability, disk diagnostics and repair
      • Scheduled and automatic backup functions, panic backup
      • Remote monitoring, advanced control features
      • Manage disk values, temperature calibration

I can’t see anything there worth paying for that I’d use that I can’t already do with the free version.

        • +1

Fair enough. I can't see much that I would do with either version, but that doesn't mean this isn't better than standard for someone who does

    • +6

      Version comparison here.

    • +2

For me it was purely the multiple test at once. If it weren't for that I would've just kept the standard. Time and power savings were enough for me to just yolo purchase the pro version.

Free version 6.10 here still works

Direct link for those not keen to hand over an email,

The installer is already unlocked meaning you do not need a registration key to register the product. Please notice that this installer has lifetime use but it does not have any upgrades. If you upgrade your copy of this program in the future, then the program will appear as a trial and you will need to pay for a registration key if you want to register it.
Also, please install this product before 30th of September 2024 in order for the application to become unlocked. If you install it on or after 30th of September 2024, the application will not be unlocked and you will need a registration key to unlock it.

    • If installed after the 30th, back date PC during install and should be fine once you adjust back to current date.

  • “Lifetime” license but do you get version upgrades included?

    • yup! sure does come with it! :)

I bought the Professional version nearly 12 years ago and receive every upgrade.

        Are there any new features?

        • Yes, many. In addition to improvements, hundreds of newer drives have been added to the database as well as lots of interface chipsets. By the way, how come you didn't say "Are there any new features?"

          • @cryptowiz:

hundreds of newer drives have been added to the database

They're included with the latest free version though.

I find the full paid version quite effective (I trialled a full version with no updates). I have been using it for a few years.

    Both my drives are monitored.

Particularly with PC gaming and multiple application uses (also downloads and pirating), it's good to know the temperature of my drives (and obviously their life span).

I sometimes have PC problems with the high temperatures (obviously)

I paid for the full version a while ago.

I'm in the middle of a six-month scheduled surface & self tests on my offsite backup USB HDDs, and having the ability to run multiple drives at once is great. It means I can get the whole job done in a weekend and return the drives to their offsite home in my office drawer at work on Monday.

I was happy to pay the guy some money. I have had a couple of email exchanges with him, and he seems like a really nice guy who knows his stuff.

Doing a search for that codes gives results even 7 years old. Yes, same code. Interesting.

I've got a TON of drives, and need to scan a lot at once, so I'll try using pro.

  • What's a "hard disk"?

    • Google it

I have perfotmed a lot of QC for the author and swear this is by far the best SMART monitoring tool, because it comes with various surface repair tools, links to warranty sites, and has saved me losing at least half a dozen drives as soon as health of the drive drops, I know about it. HD Sentinel is worth the money and if you have multiple computers the 5 user family pack is good value for money. I am the same as @Ulysses31 in that I have a in excess of 30 Hard drives, which I want to consolidate onto larger disks when they are affordable.

I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

Bought this many years ago and good to see with coupon applied, it's still the same price!
Also, buying a license gives you access to all future major version upgrades too!

Their activation/deactivation policy is very generous as well.

    Their Forums:
"I can confirm that it is not required to deactivate. If Hard Disk Sentinel is uninstalled (or simply if the license is no longer used on the old computer), it can be moved to the new machine. You can continue using the software on the new system, just proceed the registration and activation on the new computer by using the same registration name and registration code (15 digit number) you have. Just if this happens too often / too many times, it may trigger an alert from the activation server which may refuse to accept the registration code. Then just send an e-mail to [email protected] with the registration code and the situation and the license use counter will be reset to zero, so it will be possible to continue using it without problems" - https://www.hdsentinel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1828

These good, honest software businesses NEED our support! They're getting rarer and rarer.

For those with multiple computers, you can get the 5 license version for 56.10 AUD which is cheaper than paying for 2 single licenses.

        That's not available now though

Thanks, just purchased. Have had to resort to setting up a separate linux machine in the past to stress test new drives before putting them into use but now having Sentinel will make life much easier.

  • Shows $49 for me.

    • You need to enter the Coupon code. HDSP-H1-GA79612.

  • I purchased the lifetime edition ages ago just to support this software, they seem to always give it out for free and it's my go-to for hdd health checks!

    • The free version is great and fine for many but doesn’t have all the features of Pro. Version Comparison

  • What is East Digital if you don't mind me asking? I just did a quick Google search and it seems to be a store?

Also, I'll have to consider buying this (any idea how long the offer goes for?) as I switched over to the regular version of HDD Sentinel a few years ago and love it. I used to use Crystal Disk Info, but HDD sentinel is so much more in depth, and it appears there's so much more you can do with it.

Also, does anyone know how the health levels of SSDs work? I've got the first gen PCI-e 4.0 Gigabyte Aorus Nvme drive that came with a ridiculous TBW level of 1800TBW (I don't see many models have a number as high as this, they're newer models seem to have a lower number and Samsung branded ones too). I've only written 40TBW on it so far, but the health is down to 96% according to HDD Sentinel.

    • You've consumed 4% of the drive's life. You have 96% remaining.
When it gets down to 0% then the flash memory is worn out.

If this has taken you 1 year, then you've still got 19 more years of use to go.

      • Ahh right, thanks. When it does to zero, does it mean it will fail, or can it still go a while longer? Like, is that percentage rating accurate all the way down to zero perfect, or is it just a warning to start getting the data off the drive onto a new one at that point?

I think it's taken about 2 years to get to this point. How do you workout the years based on the percentage if you don't mind me asking.

        • If it's taken you 2 years to use up 4% of the drive then you're using 2% per year…

The 96% remaining will last you a cool 48 years. The drive will be dead long long before you ever get anywhere close to that point.

          • @Nom: Yeah, I will have upgraded long before then ;), but was just wondering if there's a formula you use to work it out for whenever I get a new/drive computer, I might actually start copying a lot more stuff to it (I'm not really copying hardly anything to this one, just whatever windows does and the occasional install of a program), so I just wanted to know how it's worked out. Actually, the main this being written is probably the page file as I keep running out of RAM. Should have gotten minimum 64GB when I built this PC.

            • @Ice009: You don't need to think about this anywhere near this much - the drive life is effectively infinite.

Just use it and relax - you don't need to "keep track" of SSD wear in normal use.

              • @Nom: …..until it fails without any warning and out of the blue :-)

                • @Borg: That's why you always have backups 😎

                  • @Nom: exactly….and an offsite in case house burns down while out and about or away :-)

  • Hi, Just tried to use the above code but not working. Just did a copy and paste. Can anyone one confirm? is there a 'trick' to using the code?

    • Google searched new code.
      New code is "HDSP-GX2"
Takes process from A50.33 to A30.20
