Seems JB Hi Fi returned the very famous deal they had with the Google Pixel 9 pro xl preorder. This time they don't give an extra 350$ JB gift card, but still not a bad deal for people missed the pre-order deal.
Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB $247 ($1600 off) with JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan (Min Cost $2376) @ JB Hi-Fi (In-Store)

Says "online gift card"
Ok so here is my breakdown
Paid 247 for the Pixel 9 pro XL 128gb
Paid 99 dollar for the first month of service with TelstraThen called Telstra shortly after and said I haven't used the Sim can I terminate my contract and not be charged for the first month as I haven't used the service
They charged me a cancellation fee of
$766.59
They refunded my $99 dollars (they did me a solid!)So my total cost for my phone was
$766.59 + 247 = $1013.59Thanks very much OP upgraded my 6 pro for so cheap.
Will sell my 6 pro to make some of the money backGST on my invoice is 167.91
If I travel overseas presumably my phone needs to be sealed in the box for me to claim this back rightNo, you don't have to leave it sealed, you just have to have the phone with you and present it at TRS. TRS is usually located straight after immigration.
Did they say anything about voucher repayment?
This time they have specifically mentioned in their T&Cs:
=======
2 VOUCHER CONTRACT TERM
2.1 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased a service on a JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront
Plan, the Voucher may have a fixed term of 24 months (Voucher Term).Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
Repayment Fee).
6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
(a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
(b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
(c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.
6.4 If you cease making payment for your Mobile Service under our Financial Hardship Policy,
then each month during which payments are suspended will be added to the Voucher Term.
6.5 Where you are required to pay the Voucher Repayment Fee, we will issue you with a bill for
the amount payable, which you can pay using a payment method of your choice within 10
days. If you don’t pay it within 10 days, then we will automatically deduct the amount owing
from the bank account, debit card or credit card that you have nominated for your AutoPay
payments. The voucher repayment fee max is 800 dollars. States it in the critical info summary.
It is not the gift card you get. They are two different things. Wording is just poor with it all
Incredible deal… is it possible to obtain this deal online? Is there an additional student discount available?
Thanks used this today for the Samsung Galaxy S24 -512GB ($1587 full price)
The offer was $1550 off with the $99 plan with a new Telstra number. Paid out of pocket $37 and got the extra $200 gift card with it..
Got onto chat on the JB Mobile app and tried to get the $99 reversed but unsuccessfully however got the plan terminated for $766.59.All in all total cost of phone = $99 + $37 + $766.59 = $902.59. If I count the $200 gift card it comes down to $702.59.
Pretty happy with the deal especially since I managed to sell my old phone on marketplace for almost the same price. So in order to keep the phone it costs you $702.59?
Nah it costs $902.59 but you get a $200 gift card for future use. You can't use the $200 towards the phone purchase.
Great!
I just went to JB HiFi. I am asking for this phone. Max discount is 1600 with 24 months $99 plan sign up. He didn't mentioned $200 jb gift card when I asked him. How can we get this?
So could it be used for a Pixel pro 9 with more storage too? I don't need an xl but could use the storage.
End up getting the gift card worth $2000 total. Out of pocket $868. Phone returned and plan cancelled
Did you cancelled your contract in store(same or different store) or on JB chat?
So you got paid back $1600 which was a discount plus $247 cash payment after cancelling and returning the sealed mobile?Yup, got paid back the difference $2187-$1700 = $487 as cash and $1700 from gift card. $300 bonus Gift card was handed over to me at the point of sale. That was not required handing back. This calculation is based on s24 ultra deal rather than pixel.
Did you cancel the plan first and then go to jbhifi to return phone? or need to return phone while plan is still active?
@ShinyDiamond: I returned the phone first. Don't think it matters, unless the JB rep checks the details and raises a concern.
@kindersurprised: I'm more concerned about cancelling the contract first. phone you could return within 30 days I think.
May as well keep it, what are people getting instead?
Not sure if I can be bothered waiting for the 9 pro. Maybe use this for a year and see if they do something special for the 10 pro. Smaller hands but end up using two anyway half the time. The p8 battery It's still pretty average for a small phone anyway.
Lol what are you going to spend that on at JB.
Laptop, mobile phone, gaming console, tablet, coffee machine, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, TV, speakers, dryer, headphones, fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave…shall I continue?
JB Hi Fi gift vouchers never expire, they will price match, and have a huge range of things you will buy over a period of a few years.
Getting $2000 worth of vouchers for $866 is an absolute no brainer to me. If you have a partner, get them to do the same and double your ‘winnings’.
Got all that stuff already.
Sounds like it may be worth the risk if you are prepared to sit on vouchers though. When you cancel the plan, do they (JB or Telstra) ask you to pay back the ~$760 over the phone/chat from credit card straight away I assume?
I think the real deal is returning the handset unopened which you are referring to. May look a bit sus as I already returned a pixel 9 (but genuinely decided to wait for the 9 Pro).
@G-rig: They invoice you the $767 and it’s due 10-12 days after the plan is closed
The point is that electronics/whitegoods/appliances always need replacing, so JB vouchers are good to have compared to other vouchers
Sure it may look sus, but they are bound by their own terms and conditions (ie 30 days returns no questions asked if unopened)
@SirFrankGrimes: Yes agree, I wouldn't go near Google Store credit etc, JB are great (never expire as you say).
It's pretty tempting, I have already got $400+250 in vouchers I think. The S24U wouldn't even be bad to keep but don't have massive hands and have gotten used to these smaller phones.
I'm a pixel guy but do people think the Samsung is better than the 9PXL? Can do without all the Samsung stuff and prefer pure Android & fast updates etc. I could just get the P9XL but pre-release deal would have been better and already got a case+protectors ready for the 9Pro.
Thanks to you for finding the finer details on voucher amount and terms and conditions
so do you just return to the same store or any?
next day I assume? This or the S24U deal better?Any store, within 30 days. S24U better
Returned after 1 hour. Same store. S24 is better deal as you get $1700 and $300.
Need to buy a new refrigerator, iphone for parnter and a laptop. This will helpAlright guys you may have convinced me, cheers.
ps. so you cancel the plan first online chat with JB?
@G-rig: I cancelled via chat. They ask you few questions. E.g. why are you cancelling etc.
Which store was it? Same sales rep?
Which store did you go to?
Did you return to the same store to return the phone?Oh so you did what I was thinking? Why did you only do it once is my question?
Which store in Melbourne please?
Can I have this deal with 256G/512G one? My 128GB 7 Pro is nearly full.
Yes you'll just have to top up the price difference
Okay but I probably will wait for a 9 Pro deal, wanna go back to small sized phone after my HTC U11.
Don't know if the deal will be the same for 9 Pro.I'm waiting for that too. As long as it's similar to the 9 ProXL/Fold and 9 then should be alright. Still odd it's released last and no word on pre-ordering yet.
Anyone know the expiry on the $1600 GC?
Great deal. Thanks OP this. Surely they’ll be updating their terms and conditions soon.
Currently have a prepaid 365 day plan that currently halfway through.
So to complete the "Port In" aspect is it fine to buy a $2 prepaid sim somewhere activate it, put into my current phone and port that to Telstra? Or can JB give you a new number to take up the deal?
I'm wanting to keep the phone in any case as need to upgrade, but obviously want to cancel the 24 month contract to get the discount on the phone. Don't want to port my everyday number out to Telstra and lose my prepaid 365 day plan.
So if phone is 1847 - 1600 = $247 + 99 + 767 (pro-rata) getting the phone $1113. Then switch back my normal everyday sim with my on-going prepaid plan.
still can't figure out…this one or samsung s24 ultra? looking for high resolution photos and videos….online comparison looks biased as some says pixel 9 pro is good, while some says s24 ultra!
Pretty similar I think. Hard choice.
If you have kids or pets then go for pixel otherwise samsung. Look up samsung motion blur or shutter lag.
I sold my S23U for P9PXL due to blurry pictures of kids.
She said she had a fix/workaround so may not be an issue. Btw isn't pixel going to introduce holding button down for video? Will be the same thing I reckon.
cost you 1 credit check?
Multiple enquiries within a short period only counts as one check if it hasn't changed. So it doesn't discourage user from shopping around
Looking to buy a Pixel 9 Pro XL 256G at least later. What is the best deal can get from market and any strategy to use ? Can we use JB gift card to pay for the upfront? Thanks
My experience has not gone smoothly.
The day after the purchase I cancelled the plan and returned to the store to process the refund.
Staff advised they would only refund the cash portion plus a $1200 voucher.
I disagreed with the $1200 voucher as that would be a refund of $400 less than the invoice total. In contradiction to JB returns policy.
Staff contacted store manager who was off site but stuck to their guns.
Whilst in store I called JB head office who suggested I try a different store.
Closing time came with no resolution. So had to leave with no refund but a promise the store manager would call me tomorrow.
Went home and promptly lodged complaints with JB Head office, TIO and NSW Fair trading. It's not 1200 profit. It costs 800 of real money in cancellation fees to get the voucher.
Besides, they could actually be skimming those remaining $400 in vouchers for themselves at my expense. Why else would they under pay the refund amount?Go to another store, then what if they say the same thing? Go to the next, then the next?
Maybe just keep it, plenty worse phones around and was a great deal, obviously you were interested in one?
Still hard to work out what you are meant to get back.
Please keep us updated tomorrow on this
But in the general FAQ here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866578It was mentioned that
"Am I able to return the device before cancelling the plan and get the full gift card value returned in gift card?
No - If the phone is returned the gift card reverts to the base offer at the time. If it was $800 normally then that will be the gift card returned after refunding the phone."

Why you returning it, not happy with the performance?
@G-rig: Wife wasn't happy to change from IPhone to Android.
@KernelOK: Who would have thought
Shouldn't have even bothered. I'm sure she'd be happy with free money (or just order a new iPhone).
Any updates from someone who's done this recently ? I'm not interested in trying to return it and game the cashback system, I just want the phone and no Telstra / JB contract.
I'm just worried Telstra will try and enforce the ~$2400 payout instead of ~ $800…
The telstra terms say " you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 50 75 or visiting a JB Hi-Fi store" - anyone done it in-store on the spot ? It'd be nice to walk out knowing it's done and dusted.
https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…Oh they do it all in-store ? I haven't had a plan in like 15 years so I'm used to just registering a pre-paid sim and being on my way.
I really want to take this up but I have a month left of my current $99 plan and then have to wait 24 days before I can sign up again.
Damn, I didn't realise the end date on this was yesterday.
A variation of the deal is still available but now not as good. $99 plan has become the $89 plan by default, but only $1400 off instead of $1600And no $300 gift card
Anyone managed to get $1700 gift card credit by returning the phone back recently in VIC? I tried few stores but all of them refused to return phone back and kept saying that gift card is specific to s24 ultra only and cannot be used for any other item.
Got my Pixel 9 Pro XL on Friday. Not very impress with camera photo and video quality. Battery life is not good either. Quite disappointed actually.
Can someone tell I have a USB-A cable and when I charge my pixel using the adaptor USB A to C that came with my old pixel, the fast charge changes to just charge on phone?
Tried different cables but same result..

What did the receipt say? Did it mention specific that "gift card used for pixel" or just gift card? I'll see if I can return and get a different phone?
