          a few things to note:
          - only 8gb ram, can't be upgraded as it's soldered, it's still a manageable amount in 2024 but with windows when buying new you'd want 16gb
          - less than 80% battery life, these things got 10-11hrs when new so should be good for 6-7hrs, quick charge supported, 4hrs in 30mins, also charged via usb-c
          - no mention of pen included with device, maybe they do but they have limited supply and just throw in on a first come basis but i wouldn't expect it

that being said these things are premium, were sold for +2k in 2021, magnesium build which is stronger and lighter than aluminium, more than enough power from a pretty efficient CPU, for $230 it's a bit of a steal imho

12 months warranty too, no idea how good it is

heres a review from an aussie, says it's plastic but it's magnesium

          • @desync: Thanks. Yea, was looking for info on the stylus and probably not included. Screen looks fairly scratched too, which may be why it's further discounted. But hey, if it's already scratched and discounted, it means no worries if more scratches appear!
A replacement battery is about $90 and may require voiding warranty, so probably not worth it.
Have to look up where to get that stylus

@Navanod66: if you find a compatible stylus post a link

i might chance it with the HP g3 that ACT are selling for $10

          • @desync: I'm in desperate need of a cheap laptop that'll hopefully last me through uni. This looks great but I'm worried about the 8gb of ram. Are you sure it's not upgradable? I can't find much info online. Some sources make it sound like the 8gbs is soldered, but there's a slot for one extra?

            • @cogu5: there are a few videos with guys opening them up, very simple job but unfortunately the ram is soldered and theres no ram slot on this specific model.

check this out, the review is impressive, pretty much covers everything

at $225 you are going to have to compromise somewhere, if you use linux it's not much of a problem but windows is a bit heavier

if you use chrome then ditch it for brave, if there are some heavy apps that need more 4-6gb of ram you can use something like tiny10 instead of standard windows - or better yet just use linux, especially with the way windows 11 is going a lot of people are making the switch, try out a live usb, i recommend zorin https://zorin.com/os/

the ram is a bit of a downer but you get quick usb-c charging with a tiny 65w charger included (that alone is worth $60), 11th gen cpu which is plenty powerful and more importantly much more efficient then 12th gen, plus it has tiger lake GPU which has AV1 hardware accelerated decoding - which is going to be the new standard for streaming, youtube switched this year, without this hardware your battery will drain, ryzen only got this in their 6000 series cpus

@desync: How about this one since @cogu5 wants more ram?

The easy stylus to find is this $45?

LOL @ that chinese review! Dyna Ultraman!

                • @Navanod66: stretching that far in price i think dell outlet is an option, refurbished inspirions with ryzen 5500/5650u with 16gb for about $450

yep, thats the one that came with these dynabooks (PA5319U-1PEN), was hoping for a better price

aliexpress has a seller too for marginally less

                • @Navanod66: dynabook arrived - either ACT undersold it or i got lucky

the only signs of wear are some light scratches on the palm rest and battery health at 79%

looks like the anti-glare coating is fine, no marks on screen

                  absolute bargain

                  • @desync: Good on ya. I hesitated too much and missed out.
I don't need it till early 2025, so let's see if anything good comes up during Black Friday. A Dynabook is definitely on my radar now!

                  • @desync: Sorry to bother, what was the price you paid for this on eBay? Did you use a voucher/code or something? I see it’s now $279……

Might be of interest - lifecycle extension guide
    https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Document/Lifecycle%…

    • i don't even have this laptop but now i can open a acer repair shop

  • Im looking for a lightweight laptop for travel + light gaming. My reading seemed to conclude a ryzen with 780M integrated graphics was the sweet spot, which this has. Is there a better alternative around the same price or something different i should consider? Have been finding is tough to identify laptops as they usually dont mention the 780M specifically.

    • +1

The 780M uses ~50% of the RAM when it needs to so, I would keep it fairly light.

D4 struggles to run to give you an idea but that game is very memory (RAM) hungry and also VRAM hungry. Unfortunately its the same 16GB pool.

      • Thanks str1k34. I was hoping to get 32GB but like i said really struggling to work out what laptops have the 780M in the first place. It would be RTS style games like Beyond All Reason, maybe a few FPS. Dont play RPG at all. Mostly just to kill time on flights/idle time when travelling or otherwise away from home so yeah lightweight and modest gaming capability is the goal.

  • Has anyone found a GAN charger that fully powers this and does not get low charge warning in windows? Both of mine including a 65w UGREEN get that warning in windows and dont charge faster than 25w. Cables are baseus 100w. Doing my head in a bit as I really need a charger that weighs less than the fat brick it comes with.

    • +1

Pretty sure you need the full 100w for this.

      A 65W won't cut it.

      • +1

I've done a few basic tests (need to do more) so far just watching battery stats in hwinfo, and i am actually not seeing a huge difference between using a 65w gan charger that gives a slow charger warning in windows 11 vs the brick out of the box. Playing Beyond All Reason, more cpu than gpu intensive, with the 65w charger when battery was at 80% it was still able to slowly add charge, and not radically slower than the brick. Thats all i really care about… can it power it adequately when im on a flight. Seems like it can. Also i noticed some similar laptops that didnt come with 100w chargers, even other acers.

I'll drain the laptop down to below 50% and give it another test to see what difference i observe in hwinfo over 5mins of charging between the two.

        • +1

Well you asked what Gan charger fully powers this.

The answer is 100w charger to match the power brick that comes w it.

The spec sheet says it requires 100w (20V/5A) for the type c charging.

I'm not sure if it supports 65w officially as it doesn't mention it on the sheet so yeah.

          • +1

@AndrewMTG: Yeah, true. Thanks. Obviously the 65w is only 20V/3.25A which may be what triggers that windows 11 notification.

I've done some more tests with the battery under 50%, and having 4 AI bots instead of 1, and this is where the difference is more noticable. The 65w charger is only able to steadily charge at about 7-9w (beyond consumption i guess), where as the stock brick is around 30+w. So i guess the take out is yes, does seem enough to sustain useage, but youd want to have a full battery to start. When the laptop is idle/browsing, both seem to charge about the same rate. Only under significant load does the 100W start making much difference.

Oh the delima of keeping under airline 7kg carry-on! I think ill buy a 100w GAN charger just in case i can manage to fit it in the my bag.

      • this laptop needs a 100w charger? wtf why

        isnt it igpu only

  • Expired

  • godamn i had it in my cart and procastinated

went to the store and the staff wouldnt budge on price unless it was a price match…nobody else sells this model

    hate officeworks

  • I placed an order more than a week ago. They promised to deliver it to me on October 1st, but it hasn't even been dispatched from the warehouse yet. Every time I call them, Officeworks just says they're tracking it for me but have no updates. There's nothing they can do for me right now. Oh my gosh, such a bad purchasing experience. My kids need the laptop next Monday for school.

    • The laptop would come from Acer to OW first. I previously placed an order for an Acer laptop at TGG and it took more than a month for it to come through, same shit.

      • Yes, I understand the issue. Every time I called Officeworks, their customer service just told me that there are no updates on my ticket so far, and they expect an update in 24 or 48 hours. When I called them again, I received the same answer.

I will cancel the order and buy from somewhere else.
