Is Lithium Iron better than Lithium Ion?

    • Haha oops my bad. Fixed.

      • +4

You had it right the first time. The Fe in LiFePo is the symbol for iron.

        • Great minds ;-)

      • You had it right the first time, though it still is a type of Lithium Ion battery. The "Fe" in LiFePo4 is the symbol for the element Iron. Unfix it! Heh ;-)

    • +1

Generally Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries longer life cycles compared to the older lithium ion technology. They also can carry higher overall capacity for same 100ah rating. I use a kings 100ah LiFePO4 battery for my fridge and have no issues. Can refer to this https://evergen.energy/batterytechnologydifferences/

      • To be super picky, LiFePo4 is still a type of Li Ion battery

        • you're absolutely correct. Not sure why someone downvoted you.
In fact, they are one of the oldest lithium-ion technologies.

Lithium-Iron cells are actually completely different and are generally what you find in those 1.5 V AA size batteries. The eBay listing title is confusing.

Should auto apply a $300 discount to bring it down to $499, then the coupon brings it down further once applied. I have had issues though where it randomly doesnt apply the first discount ($300) but started working for me again.

      • +1

Ahhh, I see, the $300 comes up in checkout..

        • Does that actually work? The 25% T&C say it applies on the pre coupon price. Do they stack?

          • +1

@Dabbler68: Yeh, looks like it… In the checkout it looks like:

@FLICKIT: In that case, certainly worth a positive vote, even if it is in competition with the one I posted at the same time. Quite a coincidence.

              • @Dabbler68: It's a balancing act though, quality versus needs… VoltX branded is probably better quality, and not everyone needs 200Ah, lol… (isn't Outbax and VoltX basically the same company anyway?)

                • +1

@FLICKIT: Outbax sold VoltX and now also Gentrax. They have reviewed and tested well so far, that's both.

                • -3

                  @FLICKIT:

                  , lol…

Writes like a twelve-year-old, but "trust me bro" on technology topics? The fastest way to discredit yourself, well done!

                  • @glade90: What have I done to rub you up the wrong way?.. Are you associated with one of these companies?

  • Maybe we will get an eBay cashback that works with that code tomorrow

  • Wow that is SO cheap for a 200ah battery. Looks like good discharge rates too.

    • +2

Actually, 100Ah discharge rate is on the low side for a 200Ah battery, but the 100Ah also has 100Ah discharge.

So if you need more than 100Ah discharge, get two 100Ah batteries and wire them up in parallel to give you

up to 200Ah. Some here will say it's not recommended to do so with these, but you can, works well.

      • +2

Just word of warning for those planning on using in parallel.
-Outbox website claim these shouldn't be wired in parallel.
-Specification on outbax website however state it is okay with up to 4 batteries in parallel.
-Review on Outbax website states pamphlet with the battery says not recommended to use with another battery in parallel.

Very confusing… I went for another battery based on this.

        • +1

They are just covering their backs for people doing stupid stuff and then trying to claim fault and warranty.

I have 3 x 100Ah lithium batteries in parallel another brand but decent with bluetooth and seller siad ok in parallel

even up to 4 in series. Although I wired up correctly, things are still not perfectly ballanced there either and all three

          same brand/capacity/age.

  • +1

Came here to post this deal!

If you need multiples you have to do individual orders

    Great price

  • +2
    • Yeah this is a better deal, prismatic cells vs pouch and Voltx is a better brand than these no name batteries

      • Gentrax was the No 1 selling brand for petrol generators. Looks like they want to build a name in lithium too.

        • These don't have any gentrax branding on them anywhere, not on the box or battery itself

          • @jjsnacks: ……but we know they are/will be. Same with early ebay listings.

If you zoom in on the listing photo you can read it. Also I grabbed another at this awasome price,

and the ebay listing said "buying Another" same listing, same product.

            • +1

@ozhunter68: I purchased one a while ago and it has no branding on it, the 100ah that is, same listing

              • @jjsnacks: Well, that is interesting. Did you get it via ebay OutBax?

Same colour (black not officially a colour lol), same size, same size terminals etc.?

          • +1

@jjsnacks: I have one from previous sale from
This seller and it’s says gentrax

            • @Garyd123: Yeah, I got 3 over around 4 months and all had Gentrax and same packaging on them.

  • This is mostly because they are not AS/NZS 3001.2:2022 certified so can't be installed in RV/caravans.

I got one on the last sale, it's great.

    • Bummer. Wanted to replace my two 100ah AGMs

    • That would only be a problem if you have a "registered RV/caravan."

Many campervans in Australia don't need to be registered as a campervan if you don't have

shore power 240V and/or internally fitted gas appliences. As long as you don't want/need to insure

vehicle as a campervan. Definately State dependent, so YMMV

    • +1

How did you find out they didnt have IEC62619 certification?

      • +1

You don't find something that doesn't exist.

li12gtg-pll-a0-fb-x is the model, No certification on it, the packaging or the manual, or the internet.

  • holy shit i don't need this at all and got so much 12v stuff, but this is such a good price that my mind tellin me noooooo but my body, my body tellin my YEAHHHH

    • Just wait for an even better deal.

  • +1

Thanks OP, great upgrade to the caravan, grabbed a 200ah.

  • any recommended solar panel/inverter to go with this?

    • +2

Depends on your use case, for camping grab a folding solar panel off marketplace

Giandel inverters off ebay are alright for the price

      • thanks, was thinking just basic, camping fridge

        • +4

Get a cheap battery box to put it in which will give you 12v cig plugs and other input/outputs

    • +1

I got a victron mppt controller from eBay with the same afterpay code

      • Feeling lazy, can you flick over the link maybe as always in for a 12 V bargain lol.

        • +1

Code has expired now sorry Micktron was the seller

          • +1

@Garyd123: All good. Got a Smart Solar 100/20 at 9 pm with code for $79 last night.

Tried to get another one, a Smart Solar 75/15 around 10.30 pm and code

had expired already. Did not Need it, but Wanted it though lol.

  • Nice! Bought a blade battery for $374.

  • +2

I notice they also have the 200Ah VoltX (prismatic cells, 200A charge/discharge) for $450 (using the code)
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/276110706551

    • +2

Good find FLICKIT, tempting me even more :-)

  • Can this be used to replace a car's 12v battery?

  • Is the 200Ah posted here worth $85 more than the 100Ah voltx in the other post? I understand that 200Ah is double the size but not sure if the prismatic in the 100Ah voltx makes it the better buy?

    • Personally I'd go 2 X voltx for the cells, warranty and piece of mind.

Probably can't go wrong either way though.

      • Good call. Adds redundancy into the system as well.
So it's all good to run these in parallel?

Edit: noticed the cashback on the voltx, which makes it a no brainer.

        • Pleas explain thr cashback?

          • +1

@MrrMagic: Via topcashback. It ends at midnight though so you better hurry!

  • Is 100ah lithium enough to run a medium size camp fridge (60litres)? I know lithium can discharge more than AGM but I'm not sure how that affects the calculation for battery size.

My 140ah AGM has died after 3 years - it worked ok with the fridge, it could run for maybe 36-48 hours without input. I'm not sure if 100ah lithium is an upgrade on that or whether 200ah would be the better option.
(I have a battery box so two in parallel isn't an option for me)

    • +1

100ah lithium will be pretty close to a like for like in terms of capacity compared to your current set up given you only get around 50% of the 140ah so around 70ah that is usable. The lithium on the other hand is more 80-90% usable so you might actually get slightly more out of the lithium.

  • -2

    This or a Tesla battery?

  • +2

Wow this is cheap, undermines the cost argument for making a DIY 280Ah pack using grade A cells. Leaving only the hopefully better quality of a DIY pack with good cells and a good BMS.

  • bought a 100ah stacked with a pile of unused shopback credit… not sure what i'm going to do with it yet haha :S

  • +1

Damn missed this. The Outbax deal has expired, but it looks like the exact same thing on sale here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/154718585764 but only 12 month warranty unlike Outbax 24 months.
Personally I think I'll wait for this to come around again. Global battery prices have gone through the floor, so it's only a matter of time before the ridiculously overpriced lithium camping options follow suit.

    • Not as good but could get it for $450 through the same link. But yeah not quite as good as this.

    • I just checked your ebay link and tested price + codes/discounts and managed to get the super low price of $225+-

(ebay plus code). Not as low as this deal, but I really feel that was a mistake or rare unusual deal. I have bought 4

of these now (one for family), and all were between $230+- to $250 on good ebay plus using various discount/code deals,

except for one at the listed $186 here which I jumped at. If you can wait, then wait, but around $230 I think at lowest rest

      of this year.

      • +1

ATM can get it for $209.40 with codes. Just got one. Currently 40% off and another code for eBay plus.
        This is the 100ah one.

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125509979450?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

        • Great price, almost as low as the Afterpay deal last month. Very tempting to get another,

but budget a bit tight atm.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Yeah know the feeling. Just currently hooked on camping and power backup ATM. Last month was cnc machines. Today thinking of getting a shed to put my toys in, also meaning i would actually access it easily. But probably end up being kids stuff after a while in there.
