iPhone 16 - Another Incremental Update

Currently sitting on an iPhone 12 PM that’s holding up pretty well.

The only drawing factor of the new iPhones would be the usb-c, and streamlining all the devices in the house away from lightning.

Are you upgrading? What from? And what is the feature you’re most excited about upgrading to?

  • I don't see much interest in new iPhone this time else forums would be flooded with live event links and all lineup details etc…

    • One aspect , there's talk that the 16 plus will be the last in that series of phone. Apparently not a big seller , I guess the bigger screen + Battery life isn't enough for some . I would have thought these are the biggest gripes with iPhones personally.

I went 12 pro on release to 14 pro on release and kind of regretted it. Prob skip this one too. Kinda interested in the ultra though

    • Me too. But I wanted my sister to have my old 12 Pro Max so I upgraded anyway.

  • It's pretty cool still, but imma wait for the new super slim iPhone next year, or maybe the year after.

    • +1

      Why stop there !

  • iPhone 17 is already rumoured to be the big shakeup that a lot of people are waiting for in terms of upgrading.

    • +1

I low key hope for a fold or flip format in next gen.
Missing the days where I can angrily snap close my phone to hang up.

      • -1

What ! You can't do that with android already?

        • +1

i have no problem with android, i just happen to be heavily integrated in apple ecosystem atm and to be honest, its just a pain in the ass to move back.

    • +1

I read this sentence every year lol. Ifan just hypes themselves up and be disappointed later.

  • Upgraded from 12 mini to 15 pro mainly for the battery and cameras. I’ll wait until the telephoto is significantly improved before upgrading from my 15P

    • How was the upgrade for you from 12? I have an 11 and I've been thinking of upgrading just being held back by small upgrades for premium price.

      • I like the features and battery life of the 15 pro but miss the smaller form factor. Plus USB-C ftw

        • On the same boat as @westzod. Looking to do the same. Any other deciding factors?

          • @park it: Those were the main points. Across the board the 15P is significantly better than the 12, but it’s nothing that you won’t be able to live without really

    • What size did you go with? Do you find that the 15 Pro uses more system storage compared to the 12?

      • Just went with 128gb cos I offload all my photos to my NAS and Google photos anyway. Storage isn’t a huge consideration for me

        • How do you sync Google photos to iPhone? Sorry I’m a bit technically slow.

          • @justanick: I have a very complicated system to make use of the free Google photos my old pixel still enjoys lol.

I use my NAS drive app on my iPhone to do this workflow:

iPhone, sync photos to > temporary folder on NAS, sync to > Pixel (which is set to auto backup to Google photos), sync to > permanent folder on NAS

Then I just view all my freely backed up photos in the Google photos app on iPhone and delete the originals on my iPhone since I have two copies on both NAS and Google photos

Boring as hell announcement. Everything is incremental, nothing interesting this time. Apple is becoming slightly boring. Vision Pro is the only interesting thing from Apple in the last 5 years. Having said that, it doesn't affect me, because I only buy 2nd hand phones that are 3-5 years old.

  • +1

    Least the rrp went down

    • That's surprising. Yay for me.. it's been 5 years since I purchased my old iPhone.

    • +3

Too bad the base model didn't increase to 256gb.
Their whole storage pricing is a joke.

  • Interested to see if they up the sensor size of the tele for the 17 now both main and wide sensors are upgraded.

  • +3

Upgrading from 12, time has finally come

  • +2

I'm upgrading to the 16 Pro from a 12 Mini. I am very interested in the AI features, and the far-superior camera array compared to the 12 Mini.

I'm interested in the Dolby-Vision recording as well.

So I am upgrading a 4-yo phone that wasn't even a Pro to a Pro model; I suspect I can get 5 years out of the 16 Pro, easily.

    • +1

Same here. My 12 mini battery is basically non existing. I am very happy with the 16 Pro release. Obviously iPhone development has peaked and plateaued that each release is targeted to the audience with 3/4 years old phone.

      • +2

is targeted to the audience with 3/4 years old phone.

The idea that Apple markets to people to upgrade with every iteration is Android users copium. They're the only ones who suggest Apple users upgrade every year; I'd say about 70% of people in my immediate life use iPhones and none use anything newer than the iPhone 14.

    • What size are you getting?

      • The 6.3" Pro, unsure between 256/512GB at the moment.

woohoo so happy to upgrade from my old iPhone 15 pro max to the 16 pro max!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • /s?

  • It's a decent upgrade for people with 12 or below but overall very underwhelming event.

I've got feeling upcoming M4 Macbook Pro's be the same…

  • +1

Boring and underwhelming. I'll upgrade because my IP13 is now 3 years old and I want to give a family member my old phone but there's nothing about it that I want.

  • Yes, iPhone X. Not for me but it'll be a great upgrade and I can throw away all the lightning cables in the house.

  • +1

I'll probably upgrade my 11 as my kids need a new phone, otherwise my 11 still does everything well.

  • +1

    upgrading from 11 pro max

  • -1

That is why you hold onto your iphone for 5 years and jump 5 generations and it would be leap.

Nobody is going to take a massive loss and update from iphone 15 to 16 for "incremental" updates… oh wait!

    • +1

      oh wait!

      Well? We're waiting?

  • +2

Do these ever get preorder deals like the ones for Samsung, Google, etc at jbhifi? Or just suck it up buy from appple

    • +1

      I'd like to know too.

New iPhones haven't excited or intrigued me in a long time. Still using an 8 and will stick with it until the battery gets really bad, then will move on to the iPhone 13 Mini I have sitting unopened.

  • I m SupERRRRRRRRRRR excited, the very main reason is that it has 16 at the end, yayyyyyyy.

  • +1

Well it’s not as exciting as I’d like. But being able to salary package and trade in my previous phone, it makes financial sense for me to upgrade. Man what a life. The only loophole which I get to enjoy, so taking full advantage.

  • I’ve got iPhone 14 Pro battery 85% 512GB if I trade I’ll get $750 off to 16 Pro 512GB.

The only reason to upgrade if I lose the value of my current phone as battery is depleting fast. Plus AI on the phone would be awesome.

I wish Apple made flip phones :(

  • +1

I also have an iPhone 12 Pro. 16 is no for me. I’ll maybe will upgrade in a year.

  • I have original Ultra 1 watch is it worth upgrading to 3?

  • +1

There was nothing about the iPhone 16 Pro that would make me upgrade from my 12 Pro Max. I was hoping by now the iPhone would have 4 cameras, 2 of them telephone. An F2.2 3x zoom and an F2.8 5x zoom. I use my zoom to do a lot of low light stage photos so that is important to me. I will go and replace my battery and hang onto the 12 pro max for a couple more years at least if not longer.

    • Mate do you know the cost for replacing the iPhone 14 Pro battery through Apple? The battery is still in 2 yr warranty but needs to be below 80% for a free replacement.

      • For my 12 pro max it is $149AUD. A iphone 14 Pro is $169AUD.

When I use to own small iphones like 5 and SE I had multiple battery and phone replacements for free from Apple because it wasn't too hard to get the battery to 80% within 2 years.

My 12 pro max took I reckon at least 2.5-3 years to get to 80%.

  • Interesting how the new iPhone cases cover the camera control.
I'd be careful of buying third-party cases for these phones.

  • im still fine with ip13 pro, but may buy ip16 for missus who is on ip12
