TCL 65" C855 4K QD Mini-LED TV $1725 + Delivery ($0 to Select Cities/ SYD C&C/ in-Store) @ Appliance Central

130

All time low? Punched in a few capital city cbd postcodes and got free shipping. Also noted Costco has them at $1800, maybe pickup only?

I think this is an all time low on the 65". The current sale pricing on the larger sizes isn't as impressive, right now.

__Update Sep 20: Price drop from $1748 to $1725

Good price, but HODLing for the 75" deals later this year

    • +2

I'm trying not to get JB Hifi to price match and run off while the wife's out to lunch.

    • +1

Same here! Hopefully TCL will have cashback offer in October too. Will pull the trigger if drops to around $2-2.1k. The deal in July was pretty solid for $2.2k with soundbar

      • +1

Yep $2k or lower seems likely for Oct/Nov based on last year's sales. Fingers crossed!

    • me too waiting for the 75 tcl deals. i missed out on the July JBHIFI deal with sound bar.

  • I just pulled the trigger on this from Costco online last night - includes delivery to the Sunny Coast. I went with Costco as it's worth the extra ~$50 for their returns policy

  • +1

    +$100 Delivery for me.
Also Costco's $1799.99 Includes Delivery so would be a better buy for my case.

    • +1

Good feedback. Have to be a member though, if I'm not mistaken?

      • Yes correct.

        • Seems they have the most generous policy out there on TV's by a country mile. I know JB's etc usually take back if you ask nicely, but costco specifies a 90 day change of mind window.

          • @Ademos: I've had Costco take back a faulty espresso machine 3 years out of warranty without any issues.

  • Hisense u8n on paper seems better than the TCl C855… Thoughts?

    • +5

They use their own OS compares to TCL google tv OS. And on paper, U8NAU specs is not better than TCL. Unless you refer to review of US version U8N, which has better panel than Australian version.

      • Oh thought u8Nau is the same 2024 version as the US u8N. That's disappointing :(

        • +2

Trust me, you're not the first and you certainly won't be the last. It's deplorable that they can get away with the same model number and have 2 different specifications. Hisense is the only company that does it (that I know of). A shame that they are following on with their previous great bang for buck TVs from a few years ago.

    • +3

After owning 2 hisense TV's that have annoying connection turning off then on issues with sources that can't be replicated for warranty I will never get another one again.

      • +1

Same here. You think tv turned off and then it decides to come back on a few moments later.

  • 75” - $2358. JB will match it. Tempting, unsure whether to wait until Black Friday etc

    • +3

There's been much better deals than that on the 75" going from a quick search. With included soundbars, even.

I can't remember the last time a BF sale was worth waiting for, personally.

    • if 85 inch was 2.7 only a few months ago surely a better deal could be had on the 75

  • +1

Whats the difference between TCL C755 and C855? Both are QD mini LED and when I compare the models in JBHIFI, all the specs are same, but for some reason the C855 is listed as "Premium"

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-65-c855-4k-uhd-premiu…

    • +3

      all the specs are same,

I mean no, no they aren't.

755 "up to 1300 nits" vs 855 "up to 3500 nits". and nearly double the power consumption to go with it.

      3x speakers vs 5x. 32gb vs 64gvb onboard memory.

      Lower response time.

Main thing seems to be the brightness and at a guess, number of backlight zones.

      • If you’re AppleTV + soundbar user then I guess brightness is the only factor.

        • +2

Biggest difference is the amount of dimming zones, better contrast on the C855

    • +2

look like better overall better brightness, response time, and speaker, though i'm not sure if peasant like me can tell the difference

      C755
Up to 1300 nits of brightness
Onkyo 2.1 channel with built-in subwoofer

      C855
Up to 3500 nits of brightness
Onkyo 2.1.2 channel with built-in subwoofer

    • +2

Saw them side-by-side at JB and the C855 is way brighter in person (makes sense with the much higher peak brightness).

For me it's worth the upgrade since my lounge has windows everywhere, but the C755 would be fine if your room doesn't get much light coming in.

  • 85 for 2.6-7 seems like the sweet spot when AO had their sale

    • That's what I'm waiting for!!!

  • +1

I texted JB Hi Fi and they price matched to $1784 Click and Collect.

  • thinking of pulling the trigger on this one, but would like to see them before placing the order. Any idea which is the best JB in Sydney for comparing TVs ? The one near my house does not have many options.

    • +1

Go to jb website, put one in your cart or choose pickup and see which ones have it in stock.

Did this yesterday. Went down to a local. Was blown away by it in store.

      • Great, Did they price match ?

        • +1

I tried their chat and they price matched it. Ordered it immediately and going to pick it up today.

This is replacing our Master Bedroom tv. Since it is a long room, I was debating between 65” C855 or 75” C755 as it’s not going to be used heavily.
For the price and quality, couldn’t miss it.

As others mentioned, it might come down around Oct/Nov but couldn’t bother waiting.

        • +1

Yep, and I'm getting it delivered tomorrow. Can't wait.

  • I managed to get this for 1660 with price match and gift cards in JB. Free delivery, arriving on Saturday. Excited for my first qled tv..

    • +1

It is stunning. Some of the motion settings and such need to be dialled down, ironically having smoothing and stuff up too high can induce juddering.

But yeah, I personally put it in vivid mode, then dialled down saturation, halved motion smoothing, turned off dynamic color and contrast, upped the black level slightly, and it is absolutely smooth, vibrant, butter. The blacks are deeeeeeeeeeep. Zero blooming that I can note, even around subtitles on a dark background.

It's also handling playing 4k HDR Atmos rips through plex, built in, albeit it needed a usb gigabit ethernet dongle to do it (built in is 100mb, and wifi wouldnt connect).

Honestly, treat it as a dumb panel, turn most of the fruit off, and it is simply incredible. Country miles ahead of the sony OLED I used to have, albeit that was one of the first gens that was as dim as Dutton.

      • Can I ask what usb gigabit ethernet dongle you have?

        • +1

Some noname (nextech) usb 3 ethernet gigabit adapter. It's a hand me down. I don't even know where it came from. Probably like $20.

Noting it's plugged into the USB 3.0 port on the side. The 2.0's on the back would probably be fine but cap out ~400-450 meg, I'd say. More than enough.

      • I also use Plex, with my old laptop acting as a server. I have already downloaded some 4K HDR movies to test my TV tomorrow. Any movie recommendations to test my tv?? Batman seems to be a popular choice..

        • Lord of the rings 4k Atmos editions, the 3x extended. These are unbelievably crisp.

      • Could you share the display settings config with me? I can’t find the recommended settings to get the most of the panel.

        • +2

Note that settings don't carry over across some modes it seems, like normal to dolby vision.

Under picture settings, I personally went vivid mode. This was way too vivid, blacks way too crushed, things way too grainy. But some other modes had odd juddering/jittering, even on the same content, just going back and forth. Couldn't figure out why so I stayed with vivid.

So…I then turned down saturation down to like 50. Turned the 2x slidable motion settings down to 5. Turn off dynamic contrast, dynamic blacks, dynamic color. Keep local dimming high. I think I notched contrast down from 100 to like 80 as well. Sharpness, keep that low, like 20/30.

I think the color/white balance was set to full-cool, so dial that back to normal.

These settings are all over the place…I'm flogged right now but I'll write up a proper menu/settings list tomorrow some time.

My guide is very much to taste and not even remotely going to be near "reference". Because "calibrated reference standards" lead to dim, colorless shite compared to what these panels can do, and don't let the snobs and number-queens tell you otherwise.

Price has dropped an extra $23. Wonder what is causing these price changes? Hopefully 75” price will continue to drop too

  • +1

    Decent prices at Retravision atm:

65” ~$1700 (10% off and 5% with RAC membership) with $200 gift card bonus at Retravision.
75” ~$2300 (10% off and 5% with RAC membership) with $275 gift card bonus at Retravision.

  • Heads up - 15% off TVs as part of Jb Hi Fi perks this evening only bringing in the 65” C855 to $1695.75.

We just bought it last week and very happy with it.

    • +1

It's so so good, once you dial it in. And you can blast the colours if you want to for animated movies etc, dial it back for sports/nature docs.

If you want to be a color/vibrancy/brightness queen, this can certainly do it. In broad daylight, no less. I like having the option.

I had one of the early Sony OLEDs and honestly, I'm exponentially happier with this.
