OP. I wouldn't call that slightly cheaper. That's like $40! or something close to a further 10%. Appreciate the post. Thank you.

like a kids toy rather than a proper drone

So how "these are crap"? and you compare it with a $3000 one?

    • how so? was thinking of getting one for my kid. TIA

    • +4

I didn't neg you. But. You mean tell me this <$299 DJI drone isn't as good as a $20500 DJi Inspire 3?

      • +5

You mean tell me this <$299 DJI drone isn't as good as a $20500 DJi Inspire 3?

A lot of ozbargainers are the same, never tried, compare it with expensive model and said "these are crap"?

        • +4

I've probably watched I'd say 15 YouTube reviews on it in the last 24-48 hours. I've purchased one now. Is it flawless? Nope. Bang for buck I don't recall better value from any DJI product and I've purchased quite a few. My favourite drone remains my Mini 4 Pro.

I'd say this Neo guy is for the indoor types that want to capture for real estate promos. I bought it because I love the idea of having a Mini Avata 2. I can think of so many ways to use it. Imagine social events with friends and flying around a 135 gram drone over everyone's face. It's not a flagship of course but it isn't a toy. Put simply, it's a Hover Air X1 competitor.

          • +1

@seamonkey: Agreed, just difference type of drone usage but not "these are crap".

          • @seamonkey: How do you go with the 17 minute run time ?

            • +1

@Noobist45: I think that is based on best case scenario..Mine is currently in the post being sent to me. I watched about 15 of the most viewed YouTube reviews from all the usual suspects. How much it is fighting with the wind obviously plays a huge role in battery life. One drone guy was saying removing the top guard gives you longer but doesn't seem wise for obvious reasons. Clearly Fly More is a must. I don't ever expect this is a drone you are sending to the other side of town. Close proximity, ability to change the dick with a power bank on location. I have no doubt the (17 x 3) 51 minutes DJI say you'll get from this kit will handle what you want to do well quite close. I have an Avata 2 so I'm just thinking that with MUCH lower expectations but with the plus side of portability, weight, etc.

              • @seamonkey: I'll have to have a think about what I'm going to use it for exactly.

                • @Noobist45: Yeah that's fair. Won't suit everyone. The thing I'm super excited about is hitting tiny gaps that only it will be able to do because it offers options being SOO small. (compared to my Avata 2.. At about the size of my hand, that offers me so many options for going through tree branches that are high up, for example.

    • +1

This is more of an indoor/confined space drone than DJIs usual outdoorsy drone I reckon, cant really compare them.

      • +2

You're right and absolutely priced accordingly..I mean people need to remember we are talking about a drone released in the last week that is ~$450.and people shouldn't forget that's FLY MORE variant with a DJI controller AND 3 batteries, and a battery dock, etc.

    • What is better at this price point?

  • Man, just bought one yesterday, at full rrp :(
How much do I hate myself.
First time drone owner and this thing is great.
Honestly only downside is how affected by winds it is, but only if flying very high.
    Otherwise so many options.
Video quality is great for social media and wife viewing but certainly not much more.
Very fun tho and great price point to get started.

    • Does the Neo have zoom (I'm guessing not)?

…and apparently there is a 30m height limit when using your mobile as the remote - is that right?

      • +2

Well you're limited by the wifi range anyway, which yeah would be about 30m or so.

    • +8

      Whose wife?

      • Regardless, the mind wonders 🤔

    • Buy this one as well and then return it unopened using your yesterday's receipt

  • Can I use goggle that DJI mini 4 pro use? Is it o3 transmission?

  • Gone! Seems like they had 25 and now all gone…

  • +1

Honestly, for beginners who just want social media shots/family videos this is an amazing little drone for the price

    • This is what I would use it for. I was so close to buying a drone last year, but didn't want to fork out big $$$ for something I just want to goof around with with my daughter. This seems perfect.

    • +3

Feel free post it as a bargain when it's $199.

      • You will wait and see $199 within a year.

    • The image quality from this isn't going to be the next IMAX movie. It's audience is social media where so much of this stuff ultimately end up these days. It's 2024 and you want the latest flying tech sub $200? Look how fast DJI release new models. Their R&D alone is worth more than $200.

      • The image quality from the Neo is A LOT WORSE than my old DJI SPARK. Great to see many people waste their money on this "720p toy".

        • From 5:10 in this video the guy is being super critical which aligns with what you are saying:
          https://youtu.be/tDgXa9ummxI?si=JHn4tQjs1c69jz1E
          BUT
you are in my opinion being way too harsh. It's a cheap drone and people new to drones are going to be impressed with the quality. I'm not saying your wrong - I just think you are underestimating the size of the audience that don't expect 8k 120fps and are consuming social media on a 6 inch screen.

        • Then don't buy it 🤷‍♂️ There are plenty of more expensive drones that have better image quality. You obviously get what you pay for. This looks fantastic considering the price.

  • Was going to pull the trigger but rethink and already got a mini 3 recently, so didn’t go ahead at the end

neo is a great drone and especially the usage without controller make it’s so easy to take great footage especially for solo traveler. One of the review that make it so attractive to me is the ability to use phone as a microphone input. Normally drone footage requires adding background audios or music as the propellers make it so noisy to have audio in the drone recordings

Another convenient design is adding the shooting mode button on the drone itself, so to take a quick shot you no longer need to get your phone, load up the DJI fly app, waiting connections and GPS signal for simply take off for a photo

  • +1

this might the droid, wait I mean, drone i've been looking for :D.

I've only seen 3 youtube reviews so far and it seems perfect for the people that don't actually like the idea of flying or operating a drone or learning how to, and just wanting something to film content. i.e. casual content creators, like me. The thought of spending time to learn how to fly a $1k drone like the mini 4 always felt like a hassle and seems like alot of tech $$ to just throw into the wind and risk losing.

i think the flymore combo is a must for my use case which is documenting multiday hikes. but i'll wait for more reviews to hit the market specific to hiking/outdoors before i pull the trigger although i must say at this pricepoint, it's hard to resist just buying it.

Good to know DJI is now successful enough they can dish out seemingly budget offerings with very decent specs.

    • +1

The Mini 4 Pro in many ways feels easier to operate since its more aware of its surroundings. The Neo is really fun but really loud.

If you want to mess around with a drone for camera work outside then the Mini Pro 4 is better, but the Neo is still amusing. Since I had the Mini 4 Pro I just went for the cheap version of the Neo - I figure I already have the better controller, and if I'm actually going to fly for a while I then I'd take the Mini 4 Pro out. The Neo is great for shoving into my jacket pocket or satchel to take out randomly and deploy to fly with my phone. For a multi day hike where you want snippets and don't want to carry too much, Neo is probably perfect.

I know people keep criticising it, but for a fly more bundle with multiple batteries and a controller then $500 RRP for the Neo is already a bargain.

      • +1

im an ultralight hiker as well. i wouldnt ever consider >200g for ANY filming equipment. so gimmicky or not, this is really my only viable option.

      • +1

The Mini 4 Pro is literally 4x the price of this drone though.

  • ok I dont expect such a good deal on ebay just second day of release..But anyway at least I score mine at 450 after stack gift card and negoitate with JB stuff….

    • how did you negociate with JB? usually they price match from other competitors and not ebay

      • Just ask if they do 500 or not. I have negoitate twice with different rep and finally get approval. I think if you go larger jb it is easier to get discount.

  • Looking for something to regularly inspect a roof.. reckon this or mini?

    • +1

mini, this is mostly a selfie drone. If you dont need selfie a lot then mini is best bet as its more capble.

      • +1

But it can also be used to inspect a roof right? Not just selfie? @bigbadboogieman’s question just opened an idea of simple multipurpose function of this drone when not used for selfies…

        • yeah that was the question. Inspect roof for single and double storey houses at maximum but the windy situation can play out.

          • @bigbadboogieman: If you want to use it purely for roof inspection, then its not best choice, But if you mostly use for selfie and just occasionally used for roof inspection, then I dont see there is any problem. Also if you use it for work as handyman, then go neo because the size and wifi control is extremely useful.

  • This looks like DJI's answer to the Hover Air X1 and upcoming X1 Pro/Max.

You're not meant to control this one manually. It's meant to be told what to do in advance, take off from your hand, then land back on your hand when requested.

  • People keep comparing this with a Hover Air X1.

DJI Neo ($299) Vs Hover Air X1 ($649 RRP), for me DJI is a winner in terms of price to performance. I doubt a X1 would perform twice as good as a Neo to justify $649. I'm sure a firmware update would fix a lot of the known issues. Neo is only 1-2 weeks old for goodness sake and it's a DJI product so it's only going to improve.

    • +1

The major issue with Hover is its wifi connection only. The o4 basically kills the game not mention the price is insane vs hover products. Also buying neo just let you join the DJI ecosystem. I can forsee DJI will release drone only version for mini4 pro and air3 as neo user can directly use these two drone if they buy the flymore combo.

  • cheaper on black friday looks promising.

  • +1

They just cancelled my order without warning or correspondence.

  • I've got this in hand, and for someone with the Mini 4 Pro already - this is quite complimentary especially for when you dont want to bring a whole drone + remote out, and just want a few quick shots, especially for social media. I know you can pair it with a phone or remote, but I believe it's main benefit being able to do quickshots without them.

It is also comically small and light, especially right next to the Mini 4 Pro, which itself is tiny compared to bigger full sized drones. No unfolding, no remote, instant take off and land, with prop guards. The sound also sounds better in person than in video reviews as in it's not as loud as expected. happy to take questions.

Downsides is video quality is really just.. okay, stabilisation isn't as great with lower wind resistance, and battery life is really quite low. In my short testing, it also gave up in the follow mode even if the room wasn't brightly lit and just landed.

Still, can't believe how far we've come from the Mavic 1 days.

    • Can you zoom in with the camera when using a phone as the remote?

      • No. but you can just crop it in post?

        • My main use for drones are real-time emergency situations (eg: bush fires, hiking incident etc), and am after something that is small and semi-rugged, that I can carry in a backpack, and quickly throw in the air and check the surroundings / situation when needed.

The ~30m limitation when connected to a phone is not great, but could be better if it could zoom, but looks like it's no go.

Will stick to my Mini 3 Pro for now…

          • +3

@kirt: yeah this is definitely not the drone for that. This is a flying selfie stick imo. Think the mini series you have is the best option.
