  • You are supposed to change this every 5000kms?

    • Statement or question? The bottle says long life, op suggests 5000kms. I’d say 10,000 or 1 year, whichever is the earlier… unless driving patterns fall under harsh conditions (e.g., towing, frequent short trips, etc). Check your log book for recommended service intervals and oil spec.

      • A question indeed. I am surprised by the 5k recommendation by the OP. I follow my logbook which says oil changes every 10k.

        • $27 for the oil, $16 for the filter, 1/2 hour of your time. Cheap protection. Why wouldn't you?

          • @nocure: Primarily because I don't do it myself. I go to a local mechanic, he checks all liquids, brakes, etc. apart from the usual oil change.
Secondly, it still costs the environment. All the usual processes (extraction, production, shipping, marketing, etc.) that go with bringing a product to the final consumer. Plus the waste oil and the plastic bottle. I wouldnt do it unless its necessary (such as extreme use cases as delivery vehicles, towing or weather) or recommended by the manufacturer.

    • If you want to get serious you can measure oil pressure and or drain it out and analyse it.

This brand oil breaks down pretty quickly in my experience. If you want an oil that holds up a bit longer then I'd recommend Penrite in general.

      • Thanks for the recommendation.

This oil is rated higher than some well known brands of oil, no doubt due to the high quality base stocks that Nulon use. Changing oil of this quality at 5000km intervals is an odd recommendation given the longivity that this oil is renowned for, but if this interval worked for grandpa, then I can see why people who know nothing about oils might follow outdated advice.
