Is cheap but I can't find a place to buy the auto empty dock (vac and mop) separately which is a lot of where it's functionality comes from.

    • Yeah i've found no where to get a dock either.

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra model comes with the auto empty dock straight out of the box. But gee is it expensive.

      • +1

The dock is the same as the S8 + and S8 Pro ultra. They're all compatable with each other.

        • +2

Thanks. However the only problem is i can't find an auto empty dock for the S8 series at all on its own. It's as if you can't buy it separately. That the manufacturer never released it as a separate purchase but as if you can only get it bundled with the S8 Pro Ultra package. Probably because they can upsell the S8 Pro Ultra model a lot more because of it compared to this base model release which doesn't come with it.

However it shouldn't take long to manually empty the robot vacuum, then clean it and it wouldn't be hard to do so.

    • I only found out after I bought it, for this gen (v8).
They say its not compatible with other versions (plus and ultra).
The plus/ultra has a different (onboard) bin size, I believe last I looked.
So it could also have extra? different? routing made for the dock/station.

      But if anyone finds one.

    • +2

The Standard S8 robot (without auto empty dock) is different internally to the S8 Plus/Ultra included with the dock. That's why you can't find a dock separately. The robot body and dust bin has no holes for auto dock dust extraction.

I have the older roborock without the auto dock. It works well enough. You just change it all yourself and it’s not hard. Takes 2mins tops. For the mop I just chuck it in the washing machine and have a few spares.

    • +7

      Aussies dont have 2 mins

    • +4

Use my Dyson to suck it out.

      • How do you empty the Dyson?

        • +39

          Run the Roborock over it

      • +5

I tried this as a teenager but I don’t recommend it

          With a Dyson?! RIP Mh4k's member ✝️

  • On a side note. I found a bunch of accessories for purchase for this robot vacuum cleaner.

    https://www.robotspecialist.com.au/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct&q=Roborock+S8

There is a genuine charging dock station for it.

    https://www.robotspecialist.com.au/products/roborock-s5-s6-s…

    • A charging dock should be included with the base robot. In overseas markets, there is a auto empty dock for the vacuum only which together makes it the S8 Plus. There is then the larger dock which auto empties rubbish and washes and dries the mopping pads, together, the combo is the Ultra.

The cheapest Ultra version was the $1599 at Costco. Shame you can't buy the ultra dock say for $600 separately.

I know you can empty and wash the pads manually but the dock which does it really helps with automation. Really depends on how often you run it I guess. With a toddler and dogs, ours vacuums daily and mops probably every 2nd day. Ended up getting the Dreame X40 Ultra from TGGC for $1920 total, which is equivalent to the S8 Pro MaxV Ultra. Definitely a big step up in mopping compared to the S7+ it replaced. Just depends on your needs and budget. YMMV.

      • Oh yeah i just had a look at the box packaging content and you're right it does come included with the charging dock. I guess you would only buy it if you need a second charging dock for in another room or the one you have broke.

    • This comes with a charging dock. What it doesn't have is the tall base station thing that auto empties and so on… but it appears those variants are well upwards of 2x the $ of this deal.

BigW had this s8 on 'special' (now sold out) at $920something.

  • What's with the need for the auto empty dock. Can't you just empty the unit when it's done?

    • +4

      We’re a lazy bunch

    • Its emptying it everyday (or 2) vs every week (or more).

Didn't look too much into the water part, but I guess it adds fresh water in from reserve.

    • +2

The top of the line robots have auto emptying docks, mops, auto mop drying, auto mop cleaning, and are plumbed for clean and dirty water.

These things actually become a fairly major part of your life and the more you can automate the better. On my next roborock I'd happily fork out the $3k for maximum automation.

      • Me too !!!! Life changing

Not a bad price! Does a good job. I got an ex display during the Godfreys closure.

    • +1

Yeah, I picked up a sealed one from the Godfrey's closure too. Very pleasantly surprised at how well it does it's job. I did have a bizzare what appeared to be a DOA out of the box problem. Lights turn on but unit doesn't chare or power up which is a realtively uncommon, but documented issue. Found a solution on Reddit. Which won't load now so I can't link it…
      Edit: spelling.

  • +3

It not about having extra 2-3 minutes to clean and fill, without dock you can't have set and forget automation.

    • +1

I have the s8 ultra with the dock and it’s not really set and forgets. I still have to remove hair from the rollers every now and then, the water in the tank needs refilling. The sensors and brushes need general upkeep. Yes it’s convenance with the dock but I don’t think it’s set and forget

  • Is it worth upgrading from q7max to S8?

  • Have an s6 and it’s the best device in our house.
Worth upgrading from s6? S6 is very average at mopping.

  • What makes this worth 3 more than the Lubluelu one we see a lot of for $200 ish?

    • +1

Likely build quality. Same reason people pay extra for a Corolla over a MG5.

My Roborock S5 is 5 years old now, daily use and still going strong with only minor repairs.
Straight away that makes me look favourably at the Roborock brand for reliability.

How long will a Lubulelu last? Who knows…
Maybe they're just as great, but maybe also you're paying peanuts for a disposable machine after 2 years.

But also potentially also better cleaning and better mapping quality and features.

    • +1

Build quality and availability of replacement parts are two of the major ones. Roborock has an excellent reputation for being resilient, long-lived and highly repairable.

Also, the S8 has an AI camera for obstacle avoidance, so it won't get tangled up in cables or grind dog poop into the carpet. And from memory, this model has the mop lift function so it can do combination vacuum and mop over mixed surfaces and deploy the mop for hard floors without wetting the carpet.

Finally pull trigger for my first Robo Vac, click & collect from store, cheers.

  • https://roborockstore.com.au/ has a bunch on sale too, with docks.

  • cross posting from another group

Anyone who has just the Roborock S8 pro without dock (or any other model as well) can comment on what the cleaning experience looks like? I have the S8 Pro ultra with the dock for upstairs and the dock helps with the cleaning of the mop, auto empty bin etc. I am thinking of getting a second one downstairs to avoid me having it move it around each time but didn't want to spend big again and another one with the dock. I have put in a order for the S8 pro without dock awaiting pick up.

This vacuum will mop and clean downstairs. The dustbin part i am OK with as i assume it will fill up every couple of weeks or so, so i can manage to empty it when needed and it doesn't sound much of a hassle. The mopping part is the one i am not sure about. How often do i need to refill the water, do i need to wash /swap the mop manually each time it does a mop or is it every x times?

    Thanks

    • +1

The dustbin is usually every 1-2 cleans as its pretty small. Water depending on surface area is also every 1-2 cleans. There is a tank at the front of the robot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQWWftjqH0A

Pad needs to be swapped out and cleaned every mop.

The dock makes a substantial difference to how often you run the device. Ours runs vac daily and mop every couple of days and its all automated. Really depends on your requirements.

      • +1

I don't have an S8 with agree with the above.

1 - 3 cleans is about all my (older) Roborock dustbin will handle without emptying, although this is very dependent on the size of the area in question, how frequently you clean, how quickly your floors get dirty and what kind of soiling is prevalent. When my cat is shedding, 2 cleans is absolute maximum.

A similar principle applies to to mopping, but it's probably worse. Without a dock to clean off the mopping pad, you need intervention after each cleaning session - otherwise you're just dragging a dirty rag around your floors. I don't mop regularly at all, maybe once a month, and I deliberately make the choice to do so and clean the pad afterwards….but I don't have a lot hard floors.

    • I need to empty my dustbin every second clean at least.
Every single clean if carpet is involved.

Similarly with the mop, there will be no water left for a second run even just the next day.

  • thank you. I am now thinking of maybe just getting the dock version for downstairs, like a QRevo as the downstairs is mostly hard floors. Hopefully i am able to return my unopened S8 to Jaycar
