Lowest $ Fees for High Balance Direct Share Superannuation or Pension Accounts

There is lots of discussion on which Superannuation/Pension funds have the lowest % fees but, as balances increase, only fixed or capped fees can compete.

Any suggestions where to look for the lowest total $ fees for >$1M Super and Pension accounts that are 100% invested in Direct Shares or Index ETFs (VAS, VEU, VTS.) Even CARESuper's apparently uncapped 0.07% fee adds $1400 to the cost of a $2M fund

          I outsourced it.

  • dont mix up the investment cost (eg the MER for the ETF or fund) and the super fee. The former is never capped . The latter can be capped. CARE caps theirs.

The best option for you is Rest indexed (0% MER - https://rest.com.au/super/understanding-fees/investment-fees…. Hostplus is close overall because it has a lower admin fee

    • Thanks. I'll have to do some more digging re Rest. Annoys me that they still have a buy/sell spread (Australian Shares - Indexed Buy 1.7139 Sell 1.7120) but I'm guessing this is really a 0.11% brokerage as per a more normal Direct Share option.

I have no problem with the $378 annual fee, but am annoyed how they hide the "plus 0.06% pa deducted from the Fund’s reserves and not from your account*" - which they obviously gouge back by either dropping below the "real" index (I compared REST's Australian Shares Indexed returns to the "real" S&P ASX300 accumulation index and it's all over the place) - or they're not crediting you fully with the pooled tax refunds.

If Vanguard would allow you to buy their indexed ETFs for their usual cut + a membership fee + brokerage they would be perfect. Seems wrong that a company doing this can't undercut the obvious inefficiencies of the SMSF route. (ING does have the perfect product for me, but the annual fee works out as $2184!!!!

      • Try Hostplus Choiceplus or the Ausuper equivalent

  • If you only have ETFs then go Stake Super. It is closest to lowest in the market. I say closest because you can do your own paperwork and send it to an SMSF accountant like ESuperfFund but you save like a few hundred dollars where as Stake gets it straight off the platform.

  • ChoicePlus by HostPlus has no admin % fee from October, but you must keep 20% of your balance in their pooled options. Last time I checked it was the only one with no % based admin fee.
