Dewalt DCF921N-XJ Brushless Atomic Impact Wrench + Bonus 5Ah Powerstack Battery & Charger $332 Delivered @ TradeTools

110

Hello fellow Ozbargainers and Happy Father's Day, another Dewalt tools post which I believe is a bargain.

I was after an Impact Wrench from the Yellow team to work on basic car work and possibly some lug nuts, I do believe these are highly reviewed based on the torque test channel. So hopefully someone finds this deal useful as I did. Additionally, it comes with a 5ah Powerstack battery with charger, definitely worth considering if you are in the market for a decent compact impact wrench or if you're just starting out your Dewalt tools collection.

Was looking at Totaltools and Sydney tools and they only had the DCF922 with the pin detent version(inc. Battery and charger promo). However decided that the hog ring version (DCF921) is the one that I wanted.

  • Can this be used to take all the nuts and bolts off of cars or only some? It's pretty expensive TBH

It's a compact, it will have limitations based on the smaller hammer size. It is however the most powerful compact 1/2" Impact you can get. So it's about needing power in a compact form to make it into tight places.

See this video by Torque Test Channel to see what it can handle - https://youtu.be/yu1VGp-HSZs?si=fkum-v3W4Ictak4C&t=277

  • Also why is this one so much more expensive? https://www.tradetools.com/dewalt-18v-xr-1-2-mid-torque-impa…

    • twice the power!

    • That is the most powerful battery operated Mid torque you can get, and that is why I purchased one. More torque than most battery High torque impacts, but in a smaller form.

See this video from 6:37 to understand how impressive it is - https://youtu.be/yu1VGp-HSZs?si=70KpHEN3MEH--_bk&t=397

    • It also doesn't look like its coming with a battery as bonus which is unfortunate

However decided that the hog ring version (DCF921) is the one that I wanted.

Always go hog ring, detents weaken the anvil.

Thanks for your input and advice, I'm glad I went with the Hog Ring. These things are so handy, I did change a set of wheels recently and it was a breeze—plenty of torque for simple tasks.

  • This would be perfect for car wheels if mechanics did it correctly and used a proper torque wrench. About 99% of mechanics don’t use a torque wrench; instead, they use a high-torque pneumatic air gun that applies up to 4 times the required torque, sometimes even more. Most mechanics don’t use torque wrenches at all.

    • I am struggling to see the relevancy of the comment I have to say.

  • I decided to go for this one, as I already have batteries.

With the discount code seems pretty good.

I like the different modes - mode 1 seems appropriate for my car's wheels.

    • That is the detent version of the 891. That would have messed with my head, great price, but detent….not sure which would have won over.
Mode one is 100ft-lbs, which is the norm for most passenger car wheels.

I like it due t that mode also being right for my mower blades, which is why I purchased the 891, it's a beast wand will get the nut off my mower no matter how much it's stuck.

      Enjoy, it's beastly.

      • Yeah I watched some videos comparing detent vs hog ring and decided that it would work for me and my DIY adventures. I'm not going to be swapping bits every five minutes, which also doesn't seem that easy with a hog ring anyway.

Went to Total Tools and they had already run out of the stock with the battery redemption included. After some discussion between the staff and store manager, they asked me if I wanted the 921 or 922 by splitting a kit so there's no packaging and throw in the battery and charger pack as per the redemption.

I went for the 921 even though I've been using the Ryobi mid torque impact wrench which also has the friction and find it not as fast to fit a socket into the anvil. Now I need to find the online manual for it as it wasn't provided.

    • That's awesome. It's good to know that Total Tools can also match the deal with Tradetools. Personally for the Anvil, I do prefer this over the looser Ryobi anvils that my friend has. I have a high-torque Milwaukee that feels similar to the Ryobi and easier to slide off, however, the 921 Anvil feels nice and tight once fitted on, you just need to give it a good tug when lined up and it will slide in.

      • I tried looking online for the manual but the one I found has timber screws as one of the 4 modes. On mine, after googling some more, it appears to be the scaffolding mode.

Would appreciate some more details of the various modes from the user manual that you've got. But I think I can piece together the information from Google.

It looks like the Precision Wrench mode is all that is needed to do wheel lug nuts. With the Ryobi mid torque, it was faster to get the nut loosen in mode 3 and then tighten in mode 2 which will get the torque below the required. This is then followed by the torque wrench for final tightening.
