YouTube Premium Options?

My Ukrainian YT Premium account has sadly been found out. Before that I was using a yearly Indian plan until they required a local payment method.
Is there a new method/country that can be used? Is it down to crowdsourcing family plans, and if so are any people interested in joining one?

Full disclosure I would be happy to pay proper prices for YT Premium if they offered a tier that just got rid of ads! I'm not interested in their music offering or their 'exclusive' content, I just don't want ads. And since that is all the value I derive from it, paying $17 a month is more than I can justify.

Have any friends from India who still have local bank accounts? FWIW this is a good business opportunity for someone in India to charge a bit on top to set up accounts there and accept $$ payments here.

    • Got an indian friend who has cards but they all require 2FA via SMS and he doesn't have an indian number currently. Will check in again though thanks for the reminder.

      • When your payment was rejected, any impact on your account? I'm always worried that my main gmail account will get suspended for this kind of shenanigans

Don't use your main, gmails are disposable

@nocure: I haven't and this confirms me to not do it either. Good to hear similar opinions.

    • how did you go about updating your card? did you have to VPN and log into YT India again or just update it from AU YT?

  • My Ukrainian YT Premium account has sadly been found out.

What happened? Did YT ban your account or something? I moved from India to Ukraine last year and have been fine.

Received an email along the lines of 'we believe the country your Youtube account is based in is not accurate, premium will end after this date'.
When the date arrived, access ended!

    "I just don't want ads."

    Adblock plus
    Ublock Origin
    Ghostery
    SmartTube+
    etc

    • +3

      On your phone:
      Install firefox
      Add Ublock extension
      Uninstall Youtube app
Now links to youtube open in phone's browser, which blocks ads. No payment, VPNs or further effort required.

  • I'm in India but have a plan in place in case I cannot remain in India, which I'm afraid will happen soon. Multiple options depending on your requirements for music or video, just search.

  • I got an email saying my Indian YouTube premium was going up in price. Have to click on a button to accept, do you think this is something I should be doing through a VPN?

    • +2

I did, but i doubt its needed.
It just lands on a page in the youtube music app saying agree to price change.

They already 'know' you arent in india listening or watching anyway ;)

  • I'm still using my Indian account, in fact today they sent me an email notifying me of a price increase (a whole 40 cents!)

    • +1

How did you calculate the increase of $0.40? Per my calculations it's an annual increase of ~$26

I'm with Argentina ~A$5 for the family plan.

    • Same here with no issues yet.

  • I have an Indian account with a family spot. DM me if you are interested.

  • Got an email today, India increasing prices to ₹299.00/month. Hope accepting the increase doesn't cause location issues.

I'm gobsmacked at the amount of people that pay for YouTube. You all must be very young or foolish.

    • I use YouTube alot, why wouldn't I pay for it. People have subscriptions to Netflix, Stan, Disney etc and watch one show a month

      • I guess it's because I was with YouTube from Day 1 where it was always free because it contained people's home videos and fun silly videos. Those days are gone and now it's filled with crud so I'm confused what content people feel is suddenly worth paying big money for.

Mind telling me what you get out of it?

        • I don’t pay for YouTube because I don’t see it as a great source for quality information. I mostly use YouTube for watching old wrestling segments. I’m not interested in the majority of amateur videos from people that have nothing better do with their time than create videos for other amateurs, who are essentially after likes and subscribes trying to make some money from it or get free stuff.

Recently I watched a few videos on YouTube from people reviewing routers and the DF64 gen 2 coffee grinder, however I wasn’t overly interested in their opinions, I really just wanted to get a better look at the product itself.

I collect 1080p Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays, and the majority of amateur YouTube reviewers of these provide inaccurate info, and are incorrect and wrong with their evaluations regarding their quality, there are far more experienced and knowledgeable people that post on the Blu-ray.com forums who don’t create YouTube videos, than there are people that review them on YouTube… And I believe it’s likely the same for many other products too, people with the highest level of expertise don’t regularly release videos on YouTube.

  • My Samsung TV can skip ads, so I use the free version on the Samsung Youtube app

I much prefer unofficial apps not just for ad blocking, but for features like SponsorBlock and removing useless features like "Shorts".

  • Just use one of the browsers that disables YT adds

  • I haven’t paid YouTube any money for a subscription since YouTube Red when I wanted to watch Cobra Kai seasons 1 & 2 before Netflix took over as being the co-producer with Sony Pictures of the Sony owned series.
